General manager Ruben Amaro said Brown (Achilles) will likely open the season on the disabled list, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports.
This will open the door for Grady Sizemore to make the team out of camp, despite a slow spring. Brown has not played in a spring training game with the big league club since Mar. 19 due to tendinitis in his left Achilles, so his DL stint would be eligible to be backdated nine days so he would only miss a week of the regular season. Once healthy, Brown should take over the right field duties in what amounts to his last season to prove to the Phillies that he is an everyday player.
