Sun Apr 6 201416:55Beckett throws successful bullpen session
Josh Beckett (thumb, ankle) threw a successful bullpen session on Sunday.
The veteran right-hander could now be cleared to rejoin the Dodgers rotation on Wednesday, though no announcement has been made yet. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with him, making him prove his health before inserting him into lineups.

Sun Apr 6 201413:38Beckett (ankle) might not start Wednesday
Josh Beckett (thumb) might not be activated from the disabled list Wednesday after injuring his ankle during a rehab start with High-A Rancho Cucamonga Friday.
Beckett hurt himself in the fourth inning while fielding a bunt and had to be removed from the game. "I don't think he felt anything major, but obviously I'm not sure about that," said Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly. "He was a little sore." It's been a rough few weeks for Beckett, as he entered spring training recovering from thoracic outlet surgery and has now suffered thumb and ankle injuries. If he's unable to go Wednesday, the Dodgers will either call Stephen Fife or Matt Magill up or abandon their plans to give Hyun-Jin Ryu an extra two days of rest.

Wed Apr 2 201420:30Beckett (thumb) to make rehab start Friday
Josh Beckett (thumb) will make a rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga, likely on Frday.
Beckett continues to progress from a thumb injury sustained during spring training. The team needs him back, too, as they'll miss Clayton Kershaw for at least the next few weeks. It's unclear whether Beckett will get another rehab start after Friday, as he's already up to 48 pitches and the team could decide to bring him back at a reduced pitch count rather than rolling with an inferior pitcher.

Tue Apr 1 201422:24Josh Beckett throws 48-pitch sim. game
Josh Beckett (thumb) threw a 48-pitch simulated game Monday.
Even though his stamina isn't built all the way up, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly thinks Beckett could be activated from the disabled list soon. "If we need him, it would be a shorter outing," Mattingly said of Beckett. The Dodgers could use him with Clayton Kershaw (back) out, though they could opt for someone who is a little more stretched out.

Sun Mar 30 201422:54Josh Beckett secures fifth spot in rotation
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Sunday that Josh Beckett has secured the fifth spot in the Dodgers Opening Day rotation.
Beckett defeated Paul Maholm to win the final spot. He's been working his way back from a thumb injury, and was originally expected to be ready in mid-April, but Mattingly believes that he could be available sooner if the need arises.

Tue Mar 25 201413:09Beckett (thumb) set for intrasquad Wed.
Josh Beckett (thumb) is scheduled to pitch in an intrasquad game Wednesday.
Beckett's thumb has improved enough to throw curves and cutters, but he still feels some soreness. The veteran right-hander has already been placed on the disabled list, but he should be ready to make his season debut by mid-April if he can avoid setbacks.

Fri Mar 14 201417:15Beckett exits after aggravating thumb injury
Josh Beckett left Friday's start against the Cubs after three innings due to soreness in his right thumb.
Beckett hurt the thumb nearly two weeks ago but is trying to pitch through it. He made it through three frames Friday but was unable to go the full four innings he was scheduled to go. It's not clear at this point if Beckett will make his next start.

Wed Mar 12 201417:55Beckett may miss start with sprained thumb
Josh Beckett is questionable for his next scheduled Cactus League start due to a sprained thumb.
Beckett suffered the injury 10 days ago when his hand got caught in a clubhouse door and the Dodgers want to be sure that it doesn't linger into the regular season. "I come back from thoracic outlet surgery and this happens," the right-hander said in frustration Wednesday. As the Dodgers' fifth starter, he probably won't take his first turn until mid-April anyway.

Sun Mar 9 201400:25Josh Beckett hammered in loss to Mariners
Josh Beckett was hammered in a losing effort against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits over his three innings.
The veteran right-hander walked one and didn't record a strikeout in the game. Most of the damage against him stemmed from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, with Justin Smoak, Jesus Montero and Stefen Romero each taking him over the boards. As long as he makes it through the spring healthy, he appears locked into the final spot in the Dodgers rotation.

Sun Mar 2 201417:58Josh Beckett fans three in spring debut
Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) looked strong in his Cactus League debut on Sunday, fanning three and allowing just one hit in two innings of work against the Padres.
Beckett exhibited good command of his pitches and had sharp bite to his curveball in the impressive outing. At this point, he looks to be the favorite to open the regular season as the Dodgers fifth starter provided he can navigate through the rest of the spring without injury.

Fri Feb 21 201411:25Josh Beckett looks 'free and easy'
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) looked "free and easy" while throwing live batting practice Wednesday.
"I wouldn't have known that he'd had anything done last year," Mattingly said. "It looks free and easy. It's not like he's laboring. His tempo is good." Beckett will open the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter as long as he's healthy, and it appears he's on track. Paul Maholm is around as insurance in case Beckett suffers a setback.

Mon Feb 10 201419:35Josh Beckett throws pain-free bullpen session
Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday with no issues.
Beckett underwent thoracic outlet surgery last July but enters camp with no limitations. "I'm not tentative," Beckett said. "I'm going to throw as hard as I can and see what happens. Right now, I feel great. I'll throw the ball until I blow out and I'm hoping that's not for a few more years." As long as he doesn't have a setback, Beckett is expected to open the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter.

Sun Feb 9 201411:35Josh Beckett likely in rotation if healthy
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated Sunday that Josh Beckett will be the club's fifth starter as long as he's healthy.
The Dodgers signed Paul Maholm over the weekend, but he's viewed mainly as protection in case Beckett has a hiccup in his recovery from thoracic outlet surgery. As it stands right now, the club is expecting Beckett to have a normal spring training following last July's operation. If Beckett doesn't encounter any issues, Maholm will be used in long relief.

Wed Dec 25 201309:46Beckett expected to be ready for spring
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Tuesday that Josh Beckett (thoracic outlet surgery) is expected to have a normal spring training.
Beckett was limited to just eight starts this past season prior to undergoing surgery. Colletti says he has a "chance" to open the season in the Dodgers' starting rotation, though setbacks are always possible. A possible addition of Masahiro Tanaka could also make Beckett the odd man out, at least initially.
