Mon Dec 5 201117:21Giants no longer in on Jerry Hairston Jr.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Giants are no longer in on free agent utilityman Jerry Hairston Jr.
The Giants had been one of a reported three teams -- with the Brewers and Dodgers being the others -- interested in the veteran. Hairston holds plenty of value as a utility player and might be able to convince someone to give him a two-year deal.

Tue Nov 22 201121:49LAD, MIL, SF interested in Jerry Hairston, Jr
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Dodgers, Brewers and Giants are among the teams showing interest in free agent utility man Jerry Hairston, Jr.
Hairston, 35, batted .270/.344/.383 with five home runs, 31 RBI and a .727 OPS over 376 plate appearances with Washington and Milwaukee this season. The veteran utility man is capable of playing second base, third, shortstop and all three outfield positons. The Brewers have already made him a one-year offer, but may prefer to allocate funds in a full-time free agent shortstop like Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins or Rafael Furcal.

Mon Nov 14 201120:19Brewers in contact with Jerry Hairston, Jr.
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said Monday that he has been in contact with the agent for Jerry Hairston, Jr.
"We're talking about him," said Melvin. "He was a good fit here." Hairston, 35, batted .274/.348/.379 with one home run, seven RBI and a .727 OPS over 138 plate appearances with the Brewers down the stretch and took the third base job from a struggling Casey McGehee during the playoffs. However, it's unlikely the Brewers view him as a starting player moving forward.

Sun Oct 16 201108:42Jerry Hairston Jr. to start Game 6
Jerry Hairston Jr. will start at third base in Game 6 even though Casey McGehee hit three homers in a regular season game against scheduled Cardinals starter Edwin Jackson.
"We've talked about that," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. "We've talked about what we can do differently. Hairston is definitely staying (at third). There's no way I'm taking him out of there. He has been so good." Hairston, who also started Game 2 against Jackson, is batting .371/.415/.514 during the postseason. Roenicke also said the struggling Rickie Weeks (.135/.220/.297) will continue to start at second base.

Thu Oct 13 201123:43Jerry Hairston Jr. drives in a run
Jerry Hairston Jr. went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's NLCS Game 4 win over the Cardinals.
Hairston got things started for the Brewers in the fourth inning, driving home Prince Fielder with a double before scoring on Yuniesky Betancourt's single. He added another double later in the game. The bottom three in the Brewers' order did most of the damage Thursday, driving in three of their four runs, with Ryan Braun also contributing an RBI single.

Mon Oct 10 201101:51Jerry Hairston Jr. gets two more hits
Jerry Hairston Jr. went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Sunday's opening NLCS victory over the Cardinals.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has stuck with Hairston over Casey McGehee during the playoffs, and the 35-year-old Hairston has not disappointed, batting 8-for-20 (.400) through six games. The trend could continue on Monday, as the veteran is 4-for-5 this season -- and 6-for-11 lifetime -- against Game 2 starter Edwin Jackson.

Sun Oct 2 201113:01Jerry Hairston Jr. starting again at 3B
Jerry Hairston Jr. is starting again at third base in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Diamondbacks.
The presumption was that Casey McGehee would get the call in Game 2 given that he's 5-for-5 with a double and a homer in his career versus Daniel Hudson, but Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will go with Hairston again after he went 1-for-2 with an RBI in Game 1. It appears that Hairston will have to have a couple bad games in a row before McGehee gets a shot.

Sat Oct 1 201110:23Hairston Jr. draws 3B start over McGehee
Jerry Hairston Jr. is starting at third base over Casey McGehee in Game 1 of the NLDS.
It's a bit of a surprise. Hairston has seen a good amount of playing time at the hot corner down the stretch in place of McGehee, who batted .132/.203/.294 in September, but the Brewers have stood by the struggling McGehee pretty much all year. Ultimately, though, McGehee can't be stunned that he and his .223/.280/.346 batting line for the season are on the bench. He's expected to get the start in Game 2 against Daniel Hudson, who he is 5-for-5 against in his career. It appears this will be a "hot hand" situation.

Sat Oct 1 201108:51Jerry Hairston Jr. has another epidural
Jerry Hairston Jr. had a second epidural Thursday to further alleviate his neck and shoulder pain.
Hairston has been dealing with the ailment for the past few weeks. "Feels better," Hairston said. "I'm just preparing myself to play. That's all I can do." Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he's informed both Hairston and Casey McGehee who would start at third base in Game 1 of the NLDS, but he wouldn't divulge it to the media. It would be a surprise if McGahee doesn't get the nod despite a woeful .223/.280/.346 batting line this season.

Mon Sep 19 201123:01Hairston hits fifth homer in loss
Jerry Hairston Jr. hit a solo home run in Milwaukee's loss to the Cubs on Monday.
Hairston's fifth home run was his first in 38 games as a Brewer. Hitting .261/.332/.368 at the age of 35 this season, Hairston has likely bought himself another year in the big leagues.

Mon Sep 19 201119:48Hairston Jr. starting at shortstop Monday
Jerry Hairston Jr. will start at shortstop Monday night against the Cubs.
This will be his first start at shortstop since being acquired by the Brewers before the trade deadline. Hairston is currently in an 0-for-18 funk at the plate and has been bothered by a neck/shoulder issue recently, but Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hasn't dismissed the possibility that he could get more playing time at shortstop moving forward. "I don't know about that," said Roenicke. "I don't want to say that he couldn't because if he got real hot and he's playing good defense, then yeah, it could happen. But that's not why I put him there."

Sat Sep 17 201109:15Jerry Hairston Jr. receives epidural
Jerry Hairston Jr. received an epidural Thursday in hopes that it will get rid of the neck and shoulder stiffness that has bothered him for a couple of weeks.
Hairston has a bulging disk in his neck, though it's not clear if he might face offseason surgery. Clearly nagged by the issue, he's gone hitless in his last 18 at-bats. "Something needed to be done," said Hairston. "The last two weeks have been very difficult. It's hard enough to play this game when you're feeling good. I woke up (Friday) morning feeling better."

Jerry Hairston Jr. singled home two of Milwaukee's three runs in its 3-1 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Sat Jul 30 201112:49Utilityman Jerry Hairston lands with Brewers
Brewers acquired INF-OF Jerry Hairston from the Nationals in exchange for outfield prospect Erik Komatsu.
Hairston will fulfill a utility role with the Brew Crew and figures to see plenty of playing time in the middle infield. He is batting .268/.342/.385 in 75 games this season and is a nice add by GM Doug Melvin as a complementary piece.

Sat Jul 30 201111:32Report: Brewers get Jerry Hairston from Nats
ESPN's Chris Singleton reports that the Brewers have acquired Jerry Hairston from the Nationals.
It's interesting that Singleton, a former player and current ESPN analyst, scooped the news before any of the big names, but Hairston would jibe with reports that the Brewers were looking for someone that could play in the infield and the outfield. CBS Sports' Scott Miller reports that the Nationals will receive outfield prospect Erik Komatsu in return. Hairston, who is batting .268/.342/.385 in 75 games this season, will be used in a utility role but figures to play a lot of shortstop and help out at second base while Rickie Weeks is out.

Sat Jul 23 201101:38Jerry Hairston Jr. hits third career slam
Jerry Hairston put Friday's game against the Dodgers away with his third career grand slam in the top of the ninth.
It was 3-2 before Hairston blew it open and cost Drew Storen a save opportunity. Hairston, who came off the bench tonight, has homered in both of his appearances since returning from the disabled list on Monday. He had just two homers in 196 at-bats over the first three months of the season.

Mon Jul 18 201116:44Nats activate Jerry Hairston Jr from DL
Nationals activated INF Jerry Hairston Jr. from the 15-day disabled list.
Hairston needed only a couple days more than the minimum to work his way back from a fracture in his right wrist. The veteran utility man returns to a .260/.335/.352 batting line to go along with two homers and 17 RBI over 219 plate appearances.

Sun Jul 17 201111:25Jerry Hairston Jr. to be activated Monday
Jerry Hairston Jr. (wrist) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Monday.
Hairston has played a couple rehab games with Double-A Harrisburg and his wrist evidently feels good. The utilityman will return to a .260/.335/.352 batting line with two homers over 69 games this season with the Nats.
