Braves placed RHP Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5, with a strained left hamstring.
Walden has been plagued by the injury since the beginning of spring training, and it's gotten to the point where the team feels it's best to let him rest and allow the hamstring to heal. Expect him to return to the bullpen at the end of the month.

Walden returned from groin and shoulder soreness to throw an inning in Saturday's loss to the Phillies, but the Braves want to see him throw once more before deciding whether to put him on the NLDS roster. The reliever allowed two runs -- one earned -- over two-thirds of an inning Saturday, but he did strike out the last two batters he faced. "Yeah, the last two strikeouts I kind of felt comfortable again," Walden said. "I was trying to get my delivery, my arm slot back, trying to get everything back in rhythm.. The last two batters gave me some confidence. Just got to build off those last two batters."

Walden took a line drive off his hand in the ninth inning of Saturday's game, but it appears nothing is broken. The hand is a little swollen, so he'll likely miss a few games, but overall it's good news for the Braves.

Walden got the out on the Logan Morrison grounder but didn't stay in the game. If he is forced to miss time it would be a huge blow to the Braves bullpen, as Walden has a 2.50 ERA and 47/12 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings this year.

With Craig Kimbrel in need of a day off, Jordan Walden stepped into the closer's role and pitched a scoreless ninth for a save against the Nationals on Monday.
Walden has a 2.37 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 38 innings out of the pen for the Braves. They've definitely been the winner in the Walden-for-Tommy Hanson swap with the Angels so far. For Walden, it was his second save in two years after he saved 32 games in 2011.
