Wed Jun 3 201509:41The Orioles traded De Aza to Red Sox on Wednesday
The Orioles traded De Aza to the Red Sox on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
De Aza will head to Boston after being designated for assignment by the Orioles last week. He tallied eight extra-base hits in 30 games with the Orioles earlier this season, but he also posted a .214 batting average and an ugly 7:34 BB:K ratio. De Aza will fill a reserve outfield role for the Red Sox, and his playing time figures to be minimal.
Wed May 27 201514:25Alejandro De Aza: Designated For Assignment
De Aza was designated for assignment Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
De Aza's .214/.277/.359 batting line likely played a big role in his removal from the 40-man roster. A spot was needed for the addition of Ryan Flaherty on the 40-man, and it appears the club has elected to keep the other combination of outfielders. Considering his $5 million contract, it's a bit surprising that the team made the move, but he'll now go on waivers and, if unclaimed, would likely be reassigned to the minors.
Wed May 27 201512:25Alejandro De Aza: Designated For Assignment
The Baltimore Orioles designated outfielder Alejandro De Aza for assignment Wednesday.
The Baltimore Orioles designated outfielder Alejandro De Aza for assignment Wednesday. De Aza began the season as the leadoff hitter, but posted just a .214/.277/.359 batting line in 30 games, which resulted in his removal from the 40-man roster in order to make room for second baseman Ryan Flaherty, who was activated from the disabled list Wednesday after he recovered from a groin injury. “We know he’s capable of better and he’ll probably be able to do that somewhere else, but we kind of got into a situation [where] we had to make a move,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “It’s not going to be the first time either. We’re going to have some more of those coming up, some tough ones with other people coming back to us. That’s also why we had to acquire players for the depth that we’ve had to have for the first part of the season."
Sat May 23 201515:50De Aza out of lineup Saturday
De Aza is out of the lineup Saturday.
Travis Snider will get the start in left field Saturday as De Aza is out of the lineup for the third time in six games. He is unquestionably a part-time player at the moment, and his production when he is in the lineup is lacking (.229/.295/.385).
Wed May 20 201515:03De Aza out of lineup Wednesday
De Aza is out of the lineup Wednesday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
Steve Pearce will get the start in left field with Rey Navarro starting at second base Wednesday. De Aza is coming off a three-hit game Tuesday, but bright moments have been few and far between for De Aza since the first couple weeks of the season.
Sun May 17 201510:34De Aza out of lineup Sunday against Angels
De Aza is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
De Aza went 2-for-10 with a walk while starting the last three games, but will give way to Travis Snider in left field Sunday. While it appears De Aza still has a grasp on a regular lineup spot, his on-base percentage sits at a grisly .261 a month and a half through the season, which may prompt manager Buck Showalter to keep him on the bench with more frequency.
Tue May 12 201514:57De Aza out of lineup Tuesday against Blue Jays
De Aza is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
De Aza's absence comes as no surprise, given that he was only in the lineup for four of the previous 10 games, and the Orioles are facing left-handed Mark Buehrle on Tuesday. De Aza started the year on the better side of a platoon, but he now seems to be more of a part-time player, as he's struggled since the beginning of the season.
Mon May 11 201515:37De Aza out of lineup Monday against Blue Jays
De Aza is out of the lineup Monday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
De Aza appears to be receiving a standard day off Monday, with Steve Pearce starting in left field in his place. He's struggled a bit at the plate to begin the season, slashing just .211/.250/.382 with one home run, 11 runs and six RBI.
Sat May 9 201517:41De Aza back in left field Saturday and hitting eighth, going 1-4...
De Aza was back in left field Saturday and hitting eighth, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.
It's his first homer since April 11, and first RBI since April 13. He's had a rough start to his Baltimore tenure, but hopefully for anyone with shares in De Aza, Saturday's blast is the start of a hot streak.
Fri May 8 201516:15De Aza out of lineup Friday
De Aza is out of the lineup Friday, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.
Travis Snider gets the start in left field Friday and while De Aza will likely see several starts per week going forward, he has not taken the left field job and run with it like his owners may have hoped.
Thu May 7 201516:25De Aza out of lineup for Thursday's game against Yankees
De Aza is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
De Aza has now started just one of the last five games, even though the Orioles haven't faced a southpaw since April. He may eventually have the chance to move back into a platoon role, but for now, he's essentially just the team's fourth outfielder.
Tue May 5 201515:56De Aza out of lineup for Tuesday's game against Mets
De Aza is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
De Aza is out of the lineup for a third straight game, even with Steve Pearce (illness) also unavailable. The Orioles are starting defensively-inept Delmon Young in right field for a matchup with a right-handed pitcher, which is about as bad of a sign as possible for De Aza's future with the team.
Sun May 3 201511:29De Aza out of lineup Sunday against Rays
De Aza is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rays, MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli reports.
De Aza will take a seat for the second straight game, with no specific reason given at this point. It could potentially be performance-related, as De Aza has posted just a .265 OBP with 21 strikeouts over his first 64 at-bats of the year. Travis Snider will take over in left field Sunday, while Delmon Young gets the starting nod in right.
Sat May 2 201515:02De Aza out of lineup Saturday
De Aza is out of the lineup Saturday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
David Lough will get the start in left field and hit eighth Saturday. De Aza has three hits in his last five games and is getting on base at just a .265 clip this season.
Sun Apr 26 201511:49De Aza out of lineup Sunday against Red Sox
De Aza is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore reports.
De Aza will take a seat with lefty Wade Miley on the bump for the Red Sox. Steve Pearce will be called upon to man left field in his stead.
Thu Apr 23 201515:50De Aza out of lineup Thursday
De Aza is out of the lineup Thursday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
David Lough will replace De Aza in left field and in the leadoff spot for the Orioles on Thursday. He had a really hot start to the season, but now has just three hits in his last 23 at-bats, so it's understandable that he will get his second day off in the last three games. That said, he should still get the bulk of the starts in left going forward.
Tue Apr 21 201515:35De Aza not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Blue Jays
De Aza is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
With left-handed Mark Buehrle taking the hill for Toronto, De Aza will unsurprisingly give way to Delmon Young in left field. De Aza probably won't get many starts against southpaws this season, but he did get one against New York's C.C. Sabathia last week. The Orioles aren't scheduled to face another lefty until Sunday's game against Wade Miley and the Red Sox, but that contest will kick off a stretch of three southpaws in four days.
Sun Apr 19 201511:53De Aza not in lineup Sunday against Red Sox
De Aza is not in the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
De Aza's absence is a bit out of the ordinary, as the Orioles are taking on right-hander Rick Porcello on Sunday afternoon. The regular left-fielder is just 7-for-34 with zero extra-base hits in his career against Porcello, however, so the move does make sense from a matchup standpoint. Manager Buck Showalter will instead give Delmon Young the starting nod.
Tue Apr 14 201515:22De Aza will bat ninth Tuesday against Yankees
De Aza will bat ninth Tuesday against the Yankees, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
De Aza has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games, but he will give way to Everth Cabrera atop the order Tuesday against right-hander CC Sabathia. The 31-year-old De Aza has just a 1-for-7 career mark against Sabathia.
Sat Apr 11 201523:33De Aza 2-5 with home run in Saturday's win over Blue Jays
De Aza went 2-for-5 with a home run in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays.
De Aza smacked his second home run this season and appears to be settled into Baltimore's leadoff spot against righties. The Orioles have a history of adhering to splits and De Aza has a solid line over the last three years against righties (.272/.335/.412).
