RHP Logan Verrett performed well in a spot start Wednesday afternoon, when he didn't factor into the decision after allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings in the Mets' 2-1 win over the Marlins. It was the fifth time in as many career starts Verrett has allowed five hits or fewer. He is the third pitcher in team history to achieve the feat, after John Pacella (1979-80) and RHP Jacob deGrom (2014), whom Verrett replaced in the rotation after deGrom suffered a lat injury last Friday. The Mets won't know until this weekend if Verrett will make another start for deGrom or if the All-Star will return to the rotation for his next turn.
Thu Apr 14 201601:07Marlins' failure to sweep Mets disappoints Mattingly
NEW YORK -- A good series against the New York Mets failed to turn into a perfect one Wednesday afternoon for the Miami Marlins.Left-hander Adam Conley struck out a career-high nine over six innings, but the Marlins left nine runners on base and their attempt to sweep the three-game series from the Mets fell by the wayside in a 2-1 loss at Citi Field.Mets starter Logan Verrett matched Conley by throwing six innings of shutout ball, yet the Marlins had plenty of opportunities against the right-hander. Conley failed to get down bunts with a runner on first in the third and fifth, second baseman Dee Gordon hit into his first-ever 3-6-3 double play in the third, and Martin Prado and Justin Bour struck out with two runners on in the fourth. The Marlins loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh against right-hander Jim Henderson, but Hansel Robles struck out Miguel Rojas and pinch hitter Derek Dietrich before eventual winning pitcher Jerry Blevins retired Gordon on a fly to left. The Mets broke... Wed Apr 13 201621:03Mets' Verrett a top-notch insurance policy
NEW YORK -- The first New York Mets pitcher to throw shutout ball in a start this season was Noah Syndergaard. No surprise there, considering Syndergaard emerged as a star during his rookie season in 2015 and already has 21 strikeouts in just two outings this year. However, even the most optimistic fans of betting the long shot would not have correctly guessed the second pitcher to do so: Logan Verrett. The Mets' sixth starter doesn't have the cache of a Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom or Steven Matz, but he once again thrived in a pinch Wednesday. He didn't factor into the decision despite allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in New York's 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at Citi Field. The scoreless effort lowered Verrett's ERA in five career starts to 2.86. He is the third pitcher in team history to allow five hits or fewer in each of his first five starts after John Pacella (1979-80) and Jacob deGrom (2014), whose turn Verrett took Wednesday. DeGrom... RHP Logan Verrett will make his first start of the season Wednesday afternoon, when he takes the mound for the Mets in the finale of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field. Verrett, who allowed one run in one inning of relief in his season debut on Sunday, is starting in place of RHP Jacob deGrom, who was scratched earlier this week due to a right lat injury he suffered last Friday. This will be Verrett's second career appearance against the Marlins, whom he limited to one run on three hits over five innings last Sept. 14.

RHP Logan Verrett will make his first start of the season Wednesday, when he pitches in place of injured RHP Jacob deGrom in the series finale against the Marlins. DeGrom will be scratched due to a tight right lat. Verrett won the Mets' sixth starter/long-reliever job by posting a 1.15 ERA and one save over 15 2/3 innings in spring training. He went 1-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 18 games (four starts) between the Mets and Rangers last season. He made his season debut Sunday, when he allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one in the ninth inning of the Mets' 5-2 loss to the Phillies.

Verrett went just 4.1 innings in Wednesday's start against the Phillies, giving up four hits, four walks and three runs while striking out five. He didn't receive a decision.
The Mets gifted Verrett a 5-0 first-inning lead, but he let the Phillies claw their way back in, with some help from the Mets' corps of ineffective middle relievers. After his Aug. 23 gem in Colorado, there was some reason for optimism about Verrett, but that outing looks increasingly like an outlier. Nonetheless, he finishes the regular season with a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 37.2 innings and may be a part of the Mets' bullpen mix come playoff time.
Tue Sep 29 201522:12Verrett's next start pushed up to Wednesday in Philadelphia
Verrett's next start has been pushed up to Wednesday in Philadelphia, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
The team moved Steven Matz to Thursday, which pushed Verrett to Wednesday as a result. The Mets face the Phillies both days, so the starts will be equally ideal for fantasy purposes.
Sun Sep 27 201515:31Verrett will make another start Thursday against Phillies
Verrett will make another start Thursday against the Phillies, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.
Verrett will remain a member of the rotation for the season's final week as the Mets transition Jon Niese to a bullpen role. Though he was tagged for four runs in five innings in his outing last week, Verrett remains an intriguing spot-start option in daily and season-long formats due to the matchup with the Phillies, who have provided little offensive production in the second half.

Verrett gave up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings Tuesday against the Braves.
He was pitching in place of Jacob deGrom, who was pushed back for extra rest. Verrett had thrown well in two previous spot starts -- both coming in place of Matt Harvey. The 25-year-old righty is not officially listed as a starter for another game this season, but he could very well take the ball in next week's series in Philadelphia.

Verrett (1-1) went five innings Monday, giving up one earned run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in a 4-3 win over the Marlins.
Verrett had an economical outing, giving up Miami's sole run on an RBI groundout and exiting after throwing just 63 pitches. Having now allowed one earned run in each of his two big league starts, the former Rule 5 draft pick has presented himself as a viable spot-starting candidate in Matt Harvey's place.
Wed Sep 9 201517:41Verrett will start Sunday in place of Matt Harvey
Verrett will start Sunday in place of Matt Harvey, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
When the Harvey-gate started earlier this week, it was announced that Verrett would slot into Harvey's slot. The original expectation was that it would occur after Sunday's start, but instead Verrett will get the ball against the Braves. He will likely get 1-2 more starts after that as the Mets go to a six-man rotation and could possibly skip over some of their young starters to preserve some bullets for the postseason.

With the Triple-A season ending Monday, Verrett will join the Mets on Tuesday, and he's expected to slot into the rotation if the team opts to skip future Matt Harvey starts. Verrett has appeared in 10 games, making one start, for the Mets this season, and he holds a 1.93 ERA across 23.1 innings.

Verrett will slot into Matt Harvey's spot in the rotation when Harvey is skipped as the the Mets are switching back to a six-man rotation, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Harvey may only make two more starts and the Mets are switching to a six-man rotation, creating an open spot. Verrett, who has been starting in the minors, will be called up now with Triple-A Las Vegas' season ending Monday. He was brilliant in his spot start at the end of August and will likely get at least two and maybe three starts. The number of starts will depend upon where NY sits in the standings and if Harvey is needed.

Verrett was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Verrett struggled out of teh bullpen recently, and has at least momentarily lost his spot on the 25-man roster. The move corresponds to the addition of Addison Reed, opening a spot on the 25-man roster for him to join the club, but Verrett will likely return at some point in September.

Verrett (1-1) threw eight strong innings, giving up just four hits and one earned run while striking out eight batters in a 5-1 win on Sunday over the Rockies.
The Mets, who are trying to conserve Matt Harvey's innings, turned to Verrett in a spot start opportunity and the rookie did not disappoint giving up just one extra base hit, a solo home run by Carlos Gonzalez, the entire game. It was assumed that Verrett would transition to Triple-A Las Vegas after the start but ESPN's Adam Rubin reported the 25-year-old will remain with the Mets and serve as critical member of their bullpen moving forward. In 13.1 innings prior to Sunday's performance, Verrett had a 0.68 ERA with a 0.60 WHIP.
