OF Craig Gentry, out since April 26 with a strained back, will begin a rehab assignment at Class A Inland Empire on Friday. Gentry began the season in a left field platoon with OF Daniel Nava, but both have been hampered by injuries. Gentry is hitting just .147 (5-for-34) with one extra-base hit and two RBIs in 14 games.

LF Craig Gentry was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 26 with back stiffness. OF Shane Robinson was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Gentry has five hits and two RBIs in 34 at-bats (.147) this season.

LF Craig Gentry ended an 0-for-14 slump Sunday in the Angels' 9-4 loss to the Mariners. In his first at-bat, Gentry singled up the middle in the bottom of the second inning. Gentry finished 1-for-3 and is batting .147.

OF Craig Gentry got the start in left field Tuesday after Daniel Nava started there Monday.

Gentry was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the SF Chronicle reports.

Genry will come up from Nashville with the Triple-A season coming to a close Monday night. He's seen time in only 17 major league games on the year, going 3-for-38 (.079) with 13 strikeouts.

Gentry was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

Gentry was the unfortunate odd man out upon the return of Ben Zobrist from the disabled list. Given his 3-for-38 mark at the plate through 17 games this season, it's not a big surprise that he's the one gone. The 31-year-old will return to Triple-A in an attempt to regain his form from the last few seasons.

Gentry was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Gentry's stay in the minors lasted less than two weeks, as the Athletics were in need of an extra bat after Ike Davis (quadriceps) was placed on the disabled list. The team's outfield still remains crowded, however, which will likely limit Gentry to serving as a fourth or fifth outfielder in his return to the parent club.

Gentry was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Gentry has been terrible so far in 2015, sporting a .086 average over 35 at-bats with zero extra base hits. He was sent down to make room for Coco Crisp and will try and get his bat going in Nashville.

Gentry is out of the lineup for the fourth straight game Sunday against the Rangers.

Gentry has had his fair share of opportunities in April, but is just 2-for-33 at the plate while still searching for his first extra-base hit. With Billy Burns now in the mix in Oakland, Gentry and his .280 OPS risk being faded out of the outfield rotation, if it hasn't happened already.

Gentry is out of the lineup Thursday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports.

He had gotten three starts in a row, but he has just one hit over that span. While Gentry provides excellent defense in left field, the A's will opt to add a little pop to the lineup with Mark Canha getting the start Thursday.

Gentry was 0-for-3 on Sunday, extending his hitless streak to begin the year to 17 at-bats.

Gentry had not started a game in over a week as the A's had been facing right-handed pitchers. Gentry will continue to play center field when the A's face a lefty, but his brutal start has killed any chance to earn any substntial at-bats agaisnt righties for the time being.

Gentry will start in center field and bat leadoff Sunday against the Royals.

Gentry will start for the first time in six games, taking over for Sam Fuld in center field. With left-hander Danny Duffy on the hill for the Royals, manager Bob Melvin will attempt to stack his lineup with as many right-handed bats as possible.

Gentry is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.

The A's will start Mark Canha in left field, with Ike Davis at first base and Billy Butler serving as the DH. The more offensive-minded lineup is Oakland's new preference against right-handed pitching, as Gentry hasn't gotten a start since Saturday, which was the last time the A's faced a southpaw. While his defense and baserunning have always been highly regarded, Gentry's splits make it clear that he's best suited to this kind of platoon role.

Gentry is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros.

Wednesday will mark the fourth consecutive game Gentry won't be in the starting lineup, once again being supplanted by Mark Canha in left field. While Gentry has begun the season 0-for-14, Canha has been hitting well with a .333/.353/.515 slash line, so it appears the 31-year-old may not still be in line for regular starts.

Gentry is not in the lineup Monday against the Astros.

Gentry has gotten off to an 0-for-14 start at the plate and appears to be losing some playing time as Monday will be the third time in eight games that he'll take a seat. Mark Canha will fill in as the left fielder, batting second.

Gentry has looked lost at the plate to start the year and has already started to lose at-bats against righties to Mark Canha. With Josh Reddick returning on Sunday, Gentry's role will likely be limited to starts against lefties and late inning pinch running and defensive appearances.

Gentry is out of the A's lineup again Friday.

Gentry will sit for a second straight day following an 0-for-11 start to his season, with Mark Canha slotting into left field and the two-hole in the batting order. Chances are, Gentry will be back in there Saturday with a lefty in J.A. Happ due up for Seattle.

Gentry is out of the lineup Thursday.

Even with Coco Crisp out, look for Gentry to sit most times a righty takes the bump, which is the case Thursday with Nick Martinez pitching for the Rangers.

Gentry will get some at-bats at leadoff while Coco Crisp is on the DL, reports Jimmy Durkin of the San Jose mercury News.

Manager Bob Melvin indicated that the leadoff spot will be split with Sam Fuld and determined based on the pitching matchup. Gentry was scheduled to platoon with Fuld, but Crisp's injury will open up some at-bats against righties for Gentry. Gentry managed 20 stolen bases in only 232 at-bats in 2014 and could be a sneaky source of steals in the first two months of the season.
