Sun May 25 201421:57Morales serves up three homers in loss to ATL
Franklin Morales allowed five runs, including three home runs, over 4 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Braves.
All five of the runs allowed came by way of the homer. Morales was tormented by Evan Gattis, who took him deep twice, and Justin Upton also got in on the action with a two-run shot. The lefty walked three and gave up five hits on the afternoon. He's now 3-4 with a 5.65 ERA and 1.55 WHIP on the year. He's got an interleague date with the Indians on Saturday.

Tue May 13 201423:47Morales allows four runs in loss to Royals
Franklin Morales allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
Morales wasn't fooling anyone, as he failed to strike out a batter while walking four. What's more, two of his eight hits allowed left the park. Given his ineffectiveness, Morales was fortunate to escape with only four runs allowed. It's been more bad than good for the left-hander, who will take a 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP into his start against the Giants on Tuesday.

Thu May 8 201423:20Morales' struggles continue in loss to TEX
Franklin Morales took the loss in Thursday's start, allowing five runs (four earned) in six innings as the Rockies lost to the Rangers.
Morales has now strung together three mediocre starts in a row, pushing his ERA up to 5.18 and his WHIP to 1.51. The lefty allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out five in the effort. Control has always been a problem with Morales, making him a frustrating starter for fantasy owners. Given his home park, Morales is a big gamble, even in NL-only leagues.

Thu Apr 17 201422:02Franklin Morales notches win for Rockies
Franklin Morales pitched six innings of one-run ball to earn his first win as the Rockies topped the Padres 3-1 on Thursday.
It was Morales' first win as a starter since last May 30 and his first win as a Rockie since 2009. He had lost each of his last eight decisions for the Rockies since Aug. 2, 2009. Of course, he did spend the last 2 1/2 years with the Red Sox before being traded back to Colorado over the winter. Morales isn't currently worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Wed Apr 9 201400:41Morales punished for six runs by White Sox
Franklin Morales allowed six runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox on Tuesday.
None of the Rockies' pitchers were particularly effective, but it started with Morales. The southpaw gave up eight hits -- including two home runs -- and four walks in the outing, striking out just three. Morales won a starting job with a strong spring, but he's now got a 6.94 ERA and 1.89 WHIP after two turns in the rotation. With Tyler Chatwood on the verge of returning, it could be Morales who finds himself back in the bullpen.

Thu Apr 3 201416:07Morales gives up three runs Thursday
Franklin Morales yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday afternoon in a no-decision against the Marlins.
Morales, who won the fifth starter job in the spring, was pulled at 90 pitches with two on in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Rockies had the lead at the time, but the bullpen eventually gave it up. The southpaw gave up eight hits and two walks and notched four strikeouts. We're not expecting much fantasy value here, especially with Jhoulys Chacin slated to return fairly soon.

Franklin Morales held the Mariners to one run over 5 1/3 innings on Saturday.
Morales struck out five while also walking five batters on the day. He finishes spring with a 2.10 ERA that earned him the Rockies' fifth starter job to begin the year. That spot may be in jeopardy when Jhoulys Chacin returns next month.

Fri Mar 28 201420:10Morales earns Rockies' fifth starter spot
Franklin Morales will be the Rockies' fifth starter to start the season.
Morales owned the competition for the job, posting a 2.21 ERA and 23/6 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 Cactus League innings this spring. There's enough working against the left-hander that he remains a non-factor for fantasy purposes, though.

Morales allowed three hits and walked one while striking out seven. His spring ERA falls to 2.21 and he now has 23 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings in the Cactus League. He certainly seems to have performed well enough to merit inclusion in the Rockies' starting rotation.

Fri Feb 28 201418:57Franklin Morales strong in win over D'Backs
Franklin Morales had a strong Cactus League debut in Friday's victory over the Diamondbacks, allowing a hit and a pair of walks in his two scoreless innings.
Morales punched out one on the afternoon. Hes' being afforded the chance to compete for a spot in the Rockies Opening Day rotation, and certainly has the stuff to be successful in the role provided that he's able to remain healthy.

Sun Feb 16 201420:15Franklin Morales eyes spot in rotation
Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Franklin Morales has his sights set on winning a spot in the Rockies Opening Day rotation.
The 28-year-old southpaw believes he has enough quality pitches to succeed in a starting role, and would much prefer that to being resigned to the bullpen. He has shown past upside in strikeouts, which makes him an interesting option in the later rounds of NL-only formats, but making half of his starts at Coors Field detracts from his overall value.

Wed Jan 15 201421:37Rockies, Morales agree on one-year contract
Rockies and LHP Franklin Morales avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.71 million contract.
The left-hander posted a mediocre 4.62 ERA over 25 1/3 innings with the Red Sox last season and was dealt to the Rockies in exchange for Jonathan Herrera on December 18. He'll be a bullpen arm for the Rockies next year.

Thu Jan 2 201418:42Morales 'likely' to get chance to start
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Franklin Morales will "likely" get a chance to compete for a spot in the Rockies' rotation.
Just 10 of Morales' 57 appearances at the big league level the last two seasons came as a starter, though he posted a 3.90 ERA with 49 strikeouts over 50 2/3 innings in those starts. A lack of control means he won't ever be the frontline starter many thought he could be in his prospect days, but the Rockies are apparently prepared to see if Morales can thrown enough strikes to beat out Juan Nicasio for the No. 5 spot.

Wed Dec 18 201314:12Rockies re-acquire LHP Morales from Red Sox
Rockies acquired LHP Franklin Morales and RHP Chris Martin from the Red Sox for 2B Jonathan Herrera.
Morales returns to where he was once one of baseball's top prospects. That was years ago, of course (pre-2008, to be exact, when Baseball America tabbed Morales the eighth-best prospect in the galaxy), and control problems have relegated Morales to being a fungible bullpen arm. He offered Boston a decent 3.90 ERA over 134 innings the past three years.
