Wed Jul 27 201116:32Blue Jays acquire RHP Walters from Cards
Blue Jays acquired RHP P.J. Walters from the Cardinals in the Colby Rasmus deal.
Walters, 26, has a 7.38 ERA over 19 major league appearances, but owns a 3.88 ERA over parts of six seasons in the minor leagues. He probably won't be able to cut it as a starting pitcher in the major leagues, but he could be a useful long-man out of the pen in Toronto.

Sat May 28 201112:45P.J. Walters outrighted to Triple-A
Cardinals sent RHP P.J. Walters outright to Triple-A Memphis.
Walters has been at Memphis all season, but the move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The Cards also recently removed Blake King from the 40-man (he was claimed off waivers by the Astros), suggesting a roster move or two might be in the works. Walters has posted a 5.81 ERA over 10 starts at Memphis.

Fri Mar 11 201117:29Cards send Walters, Ottavino to minors camp
P.J. Walters and Adam Ottavino were among the seven the Cardinals assigned to their minor league camp Friday.
Both right-handers entered spring training with a shot at securing a spot as a long man in the bullpen, but that job is expected to go to Miguel Batista even though he hasn't pitched well. Walters and Ottavino are likely to be part of Triple-A Memphis' rotation, though it's possible Ottavino could be used as a reliever.

Wed Sep 29 201016:06Cards' Walters combines on shutout
Making his first start since being recalled, P.J. Walters blanked the Pirates for seven innings Wednesday to earn a victory.
Walters allowed just three hits in earning his second major league victory. The 25-year-old ends the season 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA in three starts and four relief appearances. If he sticks on the 40-man roster this winter, he'll probably compete for a spot in middle relief next spring.
Sat Jul 24 201009:31Walters optioned to Triple-A Memphis
Cardinals optioned RHP P.J. Walters to Triple-A Memphis.
Walters was just recalled Friday and pitched two perfect innings that day in relief, but he will return to Triple-A with Ryan Ludwick coming off the disabled list.
Sat Jul 24 201000:21Cards call up P.J. Walters
Cardinals recalled RHP P.J. Walters from Triple-A Memphis.
Walters tossed the final two innings of Friday's loss to the Cubs. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 7.11 ERA over two starts and three relief appearances with the Cards this season.
Tue Jun 8 201018:33Cards option Walters to AAA Memphis
Cardinals optioned P.J. Walters to Triple-A Memphis.
Walters was called up in late May as a short-term fill-in for injured starter Kyle Lohse. He allowed 22 hits and 15 earned runs in 17 innings (four total appearances), and the Cards may go in another direction to replace Lohse, who could be out all season.
Thu May 27 201022:04Walters solid in 2010 MLB debut vs. Padres
Making his 2010 MLB debut, P.J. Walters held the Padres scoreless over five innings as the Cardinals grabbed an 8-3 victory.
If only all youngsters could debut in a ballpark like Petco. Walters was solid, fanning four batters and allowing just four hits, and probably earned himself at least one more start. He had a 0.48 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP through three starts at Triple-A Memphis before his promotion, so perhaps the success can be sustained. We'd bet against it, but there's a chance.
Tue May 25 201023:47Walters to start for Cards on Thursday
P.J. Walters will start against the Padres on Thursday.
Walters will take Brad Penny's place in the rotation. The 25-year-old right-hander allowed two runs over four innings in relief of Kyle Lohse against the Angels on Saturday. Before being called up from the minors early Saturday, he was 1-0 with a 0.48 ERA, a 0.64 WHIP and a 23/3 K/BB through three starts with Triple-A Memphis.

Sat May 22 201013:24Walters called up to replace Penny
Cardinals recalled P.J Walters from Triple-A Memphis.
With Brad Penny heading to the disabled list, the Cards needed someone to take his place. Walters was 1-0 with a 0.48 ERA, a 0.64 WHIP and a 23/3 K/BB ratio in three starts for Memphis, which is certainly a line that merited a recall. He's struggled in the majors before, but perhaps this time he'll make a better impression. He's worth monitoring in NL-Only, but give him a start or two before adding him.
