After being outrighted during the season, Gee was able to elect free agency after the conclusion of the regular season. While a pitcher who couldn't stick in a loaded Mets rotation is not automatically bad pitcher, Gee's career 4.25 FIP certainly suggests that he is a back-end starter at best on a second division club.

Stauffer has bullpen experience while Gee does not. In addition, Stauffer has pitched better than Gee for the 51s after coming over to the Mets. Gee can declare free agency after the season and has likely pitched his last game for the Mets' organization.

Gee tossed his second straight complete game Monday for Triple-A Las Vegas, allowing two runs on 10 hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Mets have discussed using a spot-starter in the near future to try and manage the innings of Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard. Gee, who after struggling his first two starts after landing at Las Vegas, has turned it around and could be an option for that start. However, he would have to be added to the 40-man roster, which likely means he is down the pecking order.
