Sun Apr 10 201110:07Jared Burton has setback
Jared Burton (shoulder) recently had a setback during his rehab and has been shut down.
Burton is dealing with an impingement in his shoulder. "He went to throw and felt the same thing he had before," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "That's why these things are so hard to predict. You don't know." It's unclear how long he'll be shut down, and his return date is obviously now up in the air.

Tue Mar 29 201121:51Burton has shoulder examined
Jared Burton had his shoulder examined Tuesday morning.
Burton left Monday's game against the White Sox due to shoulder discomfort. "I'm a little sore," said Burton. "I passed all the strength tests. I threw on back-to-back days and it may have been a little stiffer than usual. It's nothing a little rest won't fix. I'll be able to crank it up in a few days." It doesn't sound like he'll need a DL-stint. At least not yet.

Thu Jan 6 201117:51Burton, Reds reach pre-arb. agreement
Reds and RHP Jared Burton avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year contract.
The financial terms have not yet been released, but the guess here is that the one-year deal will be worth around $1.1 million. Burton, 29, battled multiple injuries last season and made only four total relief appearances, but it wasn't long ago that he was a highly effective setup man.

Thu Jan 6 201114:41Reds, Burton expected to avoid arbitration
According to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, the Reds and Jared Burton are expected to avoid arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract on Thursday.
Burton figures to get a modest raise from the $810,000 he made through the arbitration process last winter. The 29-year-old right-hander spent the majority of last season in the minor leagues and on the disabled list with hypothyroid condition and an oblique injury. He was a quality set-up man as recently as 2008, so a rebound is certainly possible.

Thu Dec 2 201018:17Reds tender a contract to Jared Burton
The Reds have tendered a contract to Jared Burton.
A mild surprise. Burton made just four big league appearances in 2010, partly due to injuries and partly due to a lack of effectiveness. But the Reds will buck up and pay him a raise over the $820,000 that he earned in 2010. Perhaps he can turn things around and again become a quality setup man.

Wed Dec 1 201017:01Burton could be non-tendered by Reds
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com suspects that Jared Burton may be non-tendered on Thursday.
It's a pretty logical conclusion to make. Burton failed to make the team out of spring training and later missed time due to a hypothyroid condition. The 29-year-old earned ended up making just four appearances with the big club. Health problems aside, his performance over the last two seasons isn't deserving of raise from the $820,000 he made in 2010.

Mon Sep 13 201015:11Reds call up Jared Burton
Reds recalled RHP Jared Burton from Triple-A Louisville.
Burton gets the call now that Triple-A Louisville has been eliminated from the International League playoffs. The 29-year-old right-hander has spent the entire season with the Bats, posting a 2.61 ERA and 34/16 K/BB ratio over 33 relief appearances.
Fri May 21 201012:07Burton (fatigue) makes season debut in minors
Jared Burton (fatigue) allowed two runs over 1 1/3 innings in his season debut with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Burton had been on the disabled list since the start of the season because of a lack of strength. He'll need to prove durable before the Reds think of bringing him back. "It's just a matter of him building up innings," said Reds general manager Walt Jocketty. "This is like spring training for him." The 28-year-old right-hander had a 4.40 ERA over 53 relief appearances last season.

Jared Burton is scheduled to see two specialists this week in order to get to the root of his ongoing battle with fatigue.
Burton has been on Triple-A Louisville's disabled list since the start of the season. "They really haven't found anything," Reds manager general manager Walt Jocketty said Wednesday. "He's working out with the Dayton club. I talked to him the other day and he said he's feeling better."
