He'll replace Jorge Cantu, who was designated for assignment following Wednesday's game. Guzman, 27, was batting .332/.423/.529 with eight homers and 57 RBI over his first 63 games at the Triple-A level this season. He has primarily played third base over the past two seasons, but also has experience at first base and left field. He could be a useful righty bat off the bench. | ||||||

Guzman is an interesting name. He hit .321/.376/.510 with 18 homers in 445 at-bats for Triple-A Fresno in the Giants organization this past season and has produced consistently impressive numbers the last couple years. Now 26, he hasn't gotten much of a shot at the major league level, but he'll attempt to earn a bench spot with the Pads in spring training. It's not out of the question that he could get some at-bats at first base if (when) Adrian Gonzalez is dealt. | ||||||
