RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (strained right elbow) had an injection in his elbow in March for a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He won't throw for six weeks and then will rehab for six to eight weeks. If there are no issues, he could return after the All-Star break.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez was sent back to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. Gonzalez threw 124 pitches in Thursday's start.

RHI Chi Chi Gonzalez, chased from the mound in the first inning by the Twins in Minneapolis in his last start, faces the Twins again in the opener of a four-game series in Arlington on Thursdaynight. Getting no help from his defense, he gave up two hits and four runs only one earned while throwing 38 pitches. Gonzalez, 4-6 last season with the Rangers, is 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA in two big league starts this season both of his starts coming on the recently completed road trip, is 2-3 with a 4.79 ERA at Globe Life Park.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez took the loss on Saturday, allowing four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. It marked the shortest outing of his career. In two starts this season, Rodriguez has allowed nine runs.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez will get another start Saturday when the Rangers are in Minnesota. Manager Jeff Banister said although he allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings, there were some positives from Gonzalez's season debut. Banister said he liked the movement on his fastball at times and noted Gonzalez's secondary pitches had more life on them than last year.

He is the ninth starting pitcher used by Texas this season and pitched on six days rest after getting scratched from his scheduled start Saturday for Triple-A Round Rock.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez will make his first start for the Rangers this season Monday. Gonzalez will be called up from Triple-A Round Rock to make the start at New York. While he had a 5.04 ERA in Triple A, Gonzalez was 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA over his last seven starts. "I've just been throwing a lot more strikes, focusing on that and getting ahead of hitters," Gonzalez said. "I've been using fastball everywhere, up and down, in the zone, instead of just focusing on down only. I feel like that's been helping me a lot."

Gonzalez went 4-6 in 14 games for Texas last year with a 3.90 ERA. "This is familiarity," Texas manager Jeff Banister said of the decision. "He stepped up big for us when he first game up last year and just the overall body of work. It kind of plays into the philosophy of a three pitch or less mentality, get the ball on the ground."

Gonzalez gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks in 5.1 innings as the Rangers beat the A's on Sunday.

After a brief stay with Triple-A Round Rock, Gonzalez was recalled on Friday and slotted to take the mound on Sunday. Thanks to the implosion by Athletics' starter Felix Doubront (he gave up seven runs in 4.1 innings) Gonzalez eased into the win, his first since June 5. With his performance on Sunday, the 23-year-old worked his ERA and WHIP down to 4.03 and 1.24 respectively, however, it's unclear what the Rangers plan for Gonzalez is moving forward.

The Rangers recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Rangers VP of Comm. John Blake reports.

Gonzalez is not slated to start until Sunday, but the Rangers decided to call him up a couple days early. His start Sunday will come against an A's team that he limited to one run over seven innings June 11, but tagged him for six runs in 5.2 innings June 23.

Gonzalez will be recalled to start Sunday's game against the A's, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.

Cole Hamels' start will be pushed to Monday so he can face the Astros, allowing Gonzalez to get at least one more start with the big league club this season. His performance Sunday may dictate whether he remains in the Rangers' rotation going forward.

Gonzalez will rejoin the Rangers Sept. 1, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

With Derek Holland set to rejoin the rotation Wednesday, it's unclear exactly what role Gonzalez will have with the club upon his return in September. While it's possible the club will run with a six-man rotation, it's also plausible that the 23-year-old hurler will pitch out of the bullpen.

Gonzalez set a career high with seven strikeouts Tuesday and allowed three runs over six innings against the Mariners, but was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock after the game, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.

He allowed five hits and a walk, but this was certainly one of Gonzalez's most well-rounded outings of the season. Strikeouts may never be his calling card, but it's nice to know he can miss a significant number of bats at times. Gonzalez will presumably finish out the minor league season at Round Rock, but he could be back with the big league club in an undetermined role in September. Derek Holland will take Gonzalez's spot in the Rangers' rotation.

Just as in his previous stint with the Rangers, Gonzalez walked more batters than he struck out. His ERA still sits at 4.22, which really doesn't do justice to how poorly Gonzalez has pitched this year. It's unclear what the Rangers' rotation plans are moving forward, but even though Gonzalez certainly hasn't made a compelling case for inclusion, he might stick for a while anyway.

It is a pretty ideal matchup for Gonzalez, and while his strikeout numbers from his first seven big league starts (8.3 percent K-rate) are awful, he was never going to be the kind of pitcher who was going to start missing a ton of bats right away. All of Gonzalez's pitches move, and he has advanced pitchability, so he can post great ratios without tallying a lot of strikeouts. Next season will be the year when owners should look for Gonzalez to come into his own, but he makes for an intriguing spot start Thursday against the Twins.
