Mon May 12 201421:22Robbie Ross could be replaced by Saunders
Robbie Ross could be removed from the Rangers' rotation in favor of Joe Saunders (ankle).
The Rangers are skipping Ross' next start, and although they're not saying he's being removed from the rotation, the speculation is that he could ultimately be bumped in favor of Saunders. Saunders is making a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, possibly putting him in line to rejoin the Rangers' rotation on May 20. Ross has a 7.76 ERA in his last five starts.

Sun May 11 201419:50Ross allows five runs in fourth straight loss
Robbie Ross allowed five runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Sunday.
Ross allowed six hits on the day but four went for extra bases, including a solo home run by Dustin Pedroia. The left-hander walked two while striking out three. He started the season like a house on fire, owning a 1.00 ERA through three starts, but he's 0-4 in five starts since. Overall, Ross has a 5.04 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. His next start will come Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Wed Apr 30 201423:31Ross shelled, allows 10 runs to the Athletics
Robbie Ross was shelled by the Athletics in Wednesday's start, allowing ten runs (six earned) in 3 1/3 innings.
Ross can certainly blame his defense for part of the Athletics' seven-run third and three-run fourth, but the Athletics were swinging at beach balls as seven of them logged at least two hits on the night. Ross allowed 11 hits and walked one while only striking out two. Ross will get the Rockies in Coors Field next, so fantasy owners may want to bench him for that one.

Sat Apr 26 201401:49Robbie Ross gives up two runs to Mariners
Robbie Ross yielded two runs in six innings and struck out five Friday against the Mariners.
Ross did his part and left with a one-run lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. This makes four of his five starts in which Ross has allowed two earned runs or less. His 2.45 ERA overstates how well he's pitched -- he's given up five unearned runs -- but he still looks like a decent mixed-league option from here.

Sun Apr 20 201419:30Ross allows seven runs in loss to White Sox
Robbie Ross allowed seven runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.
It was an odd line for Ross, who allowed seven hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out eight in the outing. Unfortunately for the southpaw, two of those hits left the playing field, and another run scored after reaching on a wild pitch following a strikeout. Ross has generally been very good since making the conversion to starter, so Sunday's performance isn't too alarming. He'll try to keep the ball in the yard Saturday when the Rangers visit the Mariners.

Tue Apr 15 201423:05Ross blanks the Mariners over 7 2/3 in win
Robbie Ross got the win with 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball as the Rangers shut out the Mariners 5-0 on Tuesday.
Ross pitched well, allowing only five hits (all singles), issuing no walks, and striking out two to lower his ERA to 1.00. While the ERA tells the story of a successful pitcher, Tuesday's start was his first truly impressive outing of the season. Regardless, his spot in the rotation will be made more secure with further positive results.

Wed Apr 9 201419:41Robbie Ross allows just one run to BoSox
Robbie Ross held the Red Sox to an unearned run over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Wednesday.
Ross walked six and threw just 51 of his 98 pitches for strikes, but he took advantage of the double play-happy Red Sox, getting three of them. The last was a strike-em-out, throw-em out to end the fourth. While the wildness wasn't good, he's been effective in both of his starts to date, putting him in position to keep his rotation spot after Matt Harrison returns.

Wed Apr 2 201423:20Ross earns no-decision vs. Phillies
Robbie Ross allowed three runs over five innings in Wednesday's start against the Phillies, walking away with a no-decision.
The Phillies were sizing up Ross well but could only push across three runs. The big blow came on Ryan Howard's two-run home run to center in the third inning. Overall, Ross allowed seven hits, walked two, and struck out seven. Ross pitched his way into the Rangers' injury-ravaged rotation with a solid spring performance. Outings like Wednesday's could extend his stay.

Tue Mar 25 201418:11Ross dazzles against the Indians
Robbie Ross pitched seven stellar innings against the Rangers in his start on Tuesday.
Ross, making his final case for a spot in the Rangers' rotation, allowed four hits and walked three while striking out eight. The lefty lowered his spring ERA to 1.27. The Rangers already announced Tanner Scheppers would get a spot in the rotation, but they can still make room for Ross, especially with Yu Darvish not being ready for Opening Day.

Thu Mar 20 201418:14Ross pitches well in bid to make rotation
Robbie Ross allowed two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's start against the Reds.
Ross struck out three, walked none, and allowed five hits including a solo home run to Brandon Phillips in the sixth inning. Ross is still competing for a spot at the back of the Rangers' rotation. It's still unclear who the Rangers are favoring.

Sun Jan 26 201421:52Robbie Ross ready to compete for rotation job
According to Todd Wills of MLB.com, Robbie Ross has his sights set on earning a spot in the Rangers starting rotation.
Ross has enjoyed his role in the bullpen the past few seasons, but stated ,"obviously my biggest goal is to be a starter one day, and I'd like to get that opportunity this year. Hopefully I can go in there and try to seize it." His focus this offseason has been to stretch out his arm in preparation for the transition, including refining his secondary offerings in the Dominican Republic. Provided he earns a spot, he's worthy of a look in mixed leagues.

Mon Nov 11 201320:09Robbie Ross a candidate for 2014 rotation
Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes that Robbie Ross is a "full-fledged candidate" for the Rangers' rotation next season.
Ross was also a candidate for the rotation last spring training but was moved back to the bullpen in late March. The left-hander is starting in the Dominican Winter League in order to build up some innings for a possible move to the rotation. Although all 123 of Ross' appearances at the major league level have come in relief, he posted a 2.88 ERA as a starter in the minors.

Mon Jun 24 201301:38Ross sees strike out streak snapped vs. Cards
Robbie Ross retired the only batter he faced in relief Sunday night against the Cardinals.
Interestingly, it snapped a streak of 11 consecutive appearances in which Ross had struck out at least one batter, a stretch that began on May 30. The left-hander has been dynamite this year, posting a 1.51 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 37/12 K/BB rate over 35 2/3 innings to go with 11 holds.

Thu Mar 21 201319:35Robbie Ross moved back to bullpen
Robbie Ross has been moved back to the bullpen.
Ross has put up a 3.07 ERA over 14 2/3 Cactus League innings, but the Rangers prefer to keep him in the bullpen, where he posted a 2.22 mark as a rookie last year. The competition for the No. 5 starter spot is down to Nick Tepesch, Randy Wells, Derek Lowe and Justin Grimm, with Tepesch looking like the favorite at the moment.

Sun Mar 17 201321:22Ross throws three scoreless for second win
Robbie Ross tossed three scoreless innings in Sunday's split-squad win over the Cubs.
Ross was supposed to pitch five innings, but was removed early after working up a high pitch count. It was a wildly effective outing, as he allowed three walks and gave up four hits. Ross is competing with Justin Grimm and non-roster invite Nick Tepesch for the final spot in the Rangers' Opening Day rotation.

Sun Mar 10 201321:48Robbie Ross has first bad outing of spring
Robbie Ross allowed two runs on three hits and was pulled in the third inning of Sunday's win over the Indians.
Ross was scheduled to throw four innings but was taken out early after working up a high pitch-count. He gave up three walks and struggled with his command. It was his worst performance to date, so it shouldn't be a major concern on his chances of winning an Opening Day rotation spot. Justin Grimm came on late for the Rangers and picked up the save after allowing just one run over the final three innings.

Wed Mar 6 201318:14Robbie Ross holds Cubs in check
Robbie Ross tossed four innings of one-run ball in Wednesday's win over the Cubs.
Ross allowed four hits -- including a solo homer to Scott Hairston -- while striking out one and walking no one. The southpaw sports a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over his first nine innings this spring and might be the favorite for the fifth spot in the rotation following Martin Perez's injury. That's assuming, of course, that the Rangers don't seek help outside the organization.

Thu Dec 13 201218:21Robbie Ross could move into rotation
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team will consider moving Robbie Ross into the rotation if they don't acquire another starter.
The Rangers have four set starters in Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando, and they'll get Colby Lewis back around midseason. If Ross is indeed tried out as a starter, he would compete with Martin Perez for the final spot in the rotation. The southpaw put up a 2.22 ERA in 2012 out of the bullpen but made all but one of his appearances in the minors as a starter.
