Sun Oct 13 201319:50Brandon Bolden retains passing back role
Brandon Bolden rushed five times for 19 yards and caught two passes for nine yards in Sunday's Week 6 win over the Saints.
Despite Stevan Ridley bursting back into the forefront of the Patriots' backfield, Bolden retained his passing-back role. That led to a ton of snaps late as Tom Brady staged a miraculous comeback. Over the last three weeks, Bolden is averaging 5.3 rushes and 3.0 catches per game. That's a fair expectation heading into a Week 7 matchup with the Jets.

Fri Oct 11 201317:41Brandon Bolden limited, questionable
Brandon Bolden (questionable, knee) was limited in Patriots practice Friday.
The Pats listed seven players as "limited/questionable" on the Week 6 injury report, which is par for the course from Bill Belichick's team. Bolden's knee injury is genuine, but won't threaten his Week 6 availability.

Thu Oct 10 201317:07Brandon Bolden remains limited Thursday
Brandon Bolden (knee) remained limited in Thursday's practice.
It's Bolden's typical routine. He'll be active as the Patriots' passing-down back on Sunday, and will be a low-end FLEX option in PPR leagues.

Mon Oct 7 201309:34Brandon Bolden led RBs with 40 snaps
Brandon Bolden led Patriots running backs with 40 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Bengals.
LeGarrette Blount played just 22 snaps thanks to a second-quarter fumble and a decidedly pass-heavy attack. Leon Washington didn't record any snaps thanks to an ankle injury. That left Bolden to shoulder the load, and he finished with 11 touches for 64 total yards. It's the second time in the last three weeks he's caught at least five passes in a game, putting him on the FLEX radar in deep PPR formats. Even when Stevan Ridley (knee) returns, Bolden has established himself as the passing back.

Sun Oct 6 201310:37Pats expected to use Boldin in short yardage
The Patriots are expected to use Brandon Bolden in short-yardage situations and his usual passing-back role in Week 5 at Cincinnati.
This is a concern LeGarrette Blount owners face; Blount always has been terrible in short yardage, and will not play in the passing game because he can't block or catch. While Bolden is a super-dicey flex play because his right knee is clearly not 100 percent, he's very much a threat to Blount's playing time and got goal-line carries ahead of Blount last week. Bottom line: Even with Stevan Ridley inactive, this backfield is a shot in the dark.

Fri Oct 4 201316:32Brandon Bolden limited, questionable
Brandon Bolden (knee, questionable) was limited in Friday's practice.
Bolden is tentatively expected to play against the Bengals, but was spotted limping around the locker room earlier this week after aggravating the right knee injury last Sunday night at Atlanta. He's not a recommended flex play.

Fri Oct 4 201312:02Pats RB Bolden (knee) seen limping this week
NESN's Doug Kyed spotted Brandon Bolden (knee) "limping in the locker room" on Thursday.
Bolden noticeably aggravated the right knee injury in last Sunday night's win over Atlanta. Kyed acknowledges Bolden appeared to be moving better in Friday's practice, but he was still listed as "limited" and questionable on the injury report. While we fully expect Bolden to play against the Bengals, it's hard to imagine the Patriots giving such a banged-up back much of a workload.

Thu Oct 3 201316:50Brandon Bolden still limited on Thursday
Brandon Bolden (knee) remained limited in Thursday's practice.
Bolden isn't believed to be in danger of missing Week 5 after playing through the injury in last Sunday's win. The Patriots' new passing-down back, Bolden is just a low-end FLEX option for now, but that would change if Stevan Ridley (knee) can't go against the Bengals.

Mon Sep 30 201301:16Bolden limited by knee injury in Week 4 win
Brandon Bolden had six carries for 17 yards in Week 4 against the Falcons.
Bolden re-injured his knee in the first half, but was able to return in the third quarter. He failed to convert on his only goal-line carry and wasn't a factor in the passing game, with his lone catching going for negative-five yards. Bolden has worked his way back into committee with Stevan Ridley and LeGarrette Blount and should remain the preferred option on passing downs.

Bolden re-injured his knee on a blitz pickup. He had four carries for 17 yards in a change-of-pace role before leaving and is questionable to return.

Fri Sep 27 201316:54Brandon Bolden listed as questionable
Brandon Bolden (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 4 after a limited practice Friday.
Bolden is tentatively expected to play on Sunday night, though that's not certain. Despite totaling 100 yards in Week 3 against the Bucs, Bolden only played 26 snaps and ranked third among Patriots running backs in touches, behind lead runner Stevan Ridley and late-game clock-killer LeGarrette Blount. A game plan-specific player, Bolden is a dicey flex option in Week 4 at Atlanta.

Mon Sep 23 201309:19Brandon Bolden tied for team lead in snaps
Brandon Bolden and Stevan Ridley each played on 26-of-73 snaps in Sunday's win over the Bucs.
LeGarrette Blount played 21 snaps, turning the Patriots backfield into a full-blown three-headed committee. The difference here is that 21 of Bolden's snaps were passing plays, leading to five catches for 49 yards. It's a skill set that Ridley and Blount simply don't have. Clearly over his knee injury, Bolden is going to have PPR value as the new passing-down back for Tom Brady.

Sun Sep 22 201317:29New Vereen? Bolden tallies 8 touches vs. Bucs
Making his 2013 debut, Brandon Bolden (knee) rushed three times for 51 yards in New England's Week 3 win over the Bucs, adding five catches for an additional 49 yards.
Bolden got the "start," while his 100 yards from scrimmage led the Patriots' backfield. Quite interestingly, Bolden was the Patriots' preferred back in passing situations, even occasionally splitting out wide as a receiver a la Shane Vereen. This, after Bolden caught all of two passes in 10 games as a rookie. His 46-yard run in the third quarter was the longest of his career. The Patriots' backfield is fast becoming a headache, but Bolden is worth a flier if you need help in your PPR league. He's more valuable than LeGarrette Blount behind Stevan Ridley.

Sun Sep 22 201311:43Brandon Bolden (knee) active for Week 3
Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) is active for Week 3 against the Bucs.
Bolden will be making his season debut. He could eventually slide in as Stevan Ridley's direct backup, but for now LeGarrette Blount should continue to hold onto No. 2 duties.

Wed Sep 11 201316:19Brandon Bolden (knee) listed as questionable
Brandon Bolden (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Jets.
Bolden was held out of Sunday's opener and practiced on a limited basis this week. With Shane Vereen (wrist) sidelined, LeGarrette Blount and Leon Washington will provide depth behind Stevan Ridley. The Patriots also listed WR Aaron Dobson and TE Zach Sudfeld as questionable.

Tue Sep 10 201315:08Brandon Bolden sat out due to knee
Brandon Bolden did not play in Week 1 due to a knee injury.
Bolden's status for Thursday's game against the Jets is unknown. But even if he plays, he's a shaky candidate for significant touches. Bolden is a power back behind Stevan Ridley and possibly LeGarrette Blount, and we haven't seen him do any Shane Vereen-like things in the passing game.

Thu Aug 22 201322:20Brandon Bolden loses fumble vs. Detroit
Patriots RB Brandon Bolden rushed once for six yards, caught a pass and lost five yards, and lost a fumble in Thursday night's third exhibition game against the Lions.
A very rough night for Bolden, who like Zach Sudfeld and Shane Vereen was benched immediately after giving the ball to the opponent. Bolden is in a direct competition with LeGarrette Blount for a roster spot, so he really can't afford miscues like this. Bill Belichick famously detests fumblers. Through three preseason contests, Bolden has 58 yards on 11 carries (5.27 YPC) and two catches. He didn't have a single fumble on 67 rookie-year touches.
