Byrd went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over Pittsburgh.
Byrd hit a two run home run off of Pirates ace Gerrit Cole in the first inning on Wednesday to extend the Reds lead to 4-0. It was Byrd's 12th home run of the season to go along with 29 RBI. The .223 average is certainly disappointing so far this season, but Byrd is worth keeping an eye on. If he starts to get it going in the second half of the season, he could provide solid power production playing in a hitter-friendly park.

Byrd was 1-for-4 with a solo home run in his return to the Reds' lineup Friday night as Cincinnati defeated the Marlins 5-0.
It has to be somewhat surprising that he could return from a fractured wrist so soon (he was injured on June 2nd), but it also has to be encouraging that he could homer - his 11th of the season - in his first game back. Fantasy owners looking for power help will want to get him back in their lineups.
Fri Jun 19 201514:50Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) In Friday's Lineup
Byrd (wrist) is in the lineup, batting fifth and playing left field, for Friday's game against the Marlins, MLB.com's Jamie Ramsey reports.
Byrd will return from the disabled list when first eligible, after Thursday's game against the Tigers was postponed. He went 2-for-7 with a home run in his two-game rehab stint with Double-A Pensacola.
Fri Jun 19 201512:50Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) In Friday's Lineup
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd is in the starting lineup Friday against the Miami Marlins after returning from a wrist injury.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd is in the starting lineup Friday against the Miami Marlins after returning from a wrist injury. Byrd was originally diagnosed with what was assumed to be a significant wrist fracture, but he was able to return to the lineup in under three weeks.
Wed Jun 17 201516:37Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) Could Return This Weekend
Byrd could be back with the Reds sometime this weekend, the Cincinnati Enquirer's C. Trent Rosecrans reports.
He is slated to play two games with Double-A Pensacola starting Wednesday, so he could theoretically join the Reds on Friday for the start of a home series against the Marlins. For at least the next two games Skip Schumaker and Ivan De Jesus will share duties in left field for the Reds.
Wed Jun 17 201514:37Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) Could Return This Weekend
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd could return this weekend after recovering from a fractured wrist, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd could return this weekend despite recently suffering a fractured wrist, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Byrd was expected to require an extend absence after suffering the fracture Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he could require just two rehab games at Double-A Pensacola before returning for Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. "(The rehab) is good news," Reds manager Bryan Price told the Pensacola News Journal. "For all the things we've talked about in a negative way in terms of injury, he's healed quickly. He's done a lot of really good work without having any setbacks. I didn't anticipate having him back as soon as this." Skip Schumaker and Ivan Dejesus, who have been splitting time in the outfield as a result of Byrd's injury, will likely see a significant reduction in playing time upon his return.
Tue Jun 16 201516:07Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) Set For Rehab Assignment
Byrd (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
This is surprising, as a lengthy absence was expected after Byrd was diagnosed with a fractured right wrist early this month. However, it seems the Reds are convinced the 37-year-old has healed sufficiently, though it's not entirely clear when he may return to the major league club. When he does, Byrd should immediately take back over as the everyday option in left field after hitting .212 with 10 homers and 25 RBI in his first 47 games of the season.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday while recovering from a fractured wrist, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday while recovering from a fractured wrist, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Byrd was initially expected to require a lengthy absence, and while there is still no timetable for his return, it appears he will not be missing a considerable amount of time. He suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, and though he attempted to remain in the contest, he was removed after it was discovered that he could not fully swing the bat. "I was throwing, and it felt good enough," Byrd said. "Then I knew when I came up the next inning, I was sixth up and I needed to go check it out and see if I could swing to give the guys on the bench a chance if I couldn't. The first swing I tried, it felt too uncomfortable to go full-force, so I told Jay I couldn't swing."
Wed Jun 3 201517:46Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) Placed On 15-Day DL
Byrd (wrist) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.
Byrd's broken wrist would inevitably lead to a stint on the disabled list, and now the move has become official. The Reds recalled Ivan De Jesus Jr. to take his spot on the 25-man roster, and released Donald Lutz in corresponding moves. While he may return at some point later in the season, the injury will likely cost him his $8 million vesting option for reaching 550 plate appearances.
Wed Jun 3 201515:46Marlon Byrd: (Wrist) Placed On 15-Day DL
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a broken right wrist.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Marlon Byrd was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a broken right wrist. Byrd was hit by a pitch from Philadelphia Phillies starter Sean O'Sullivan on Tuesday and will be out until at least June 17 as he recovers, though his absence could be much longer. "It hit him in the wrist, he has a wrist fracture, to what degree the injury is yet to be known, I don't know if it's a disabled list situation," Reds manager Bryan Price said after Tuesday's game. "I'd guess it is, but I don't know that for sure. We're going to wait until we hear from the doctors and they read the X-rays and they make that decision." The time missed will be especially unfortunate for Byrd himself, as he will likely miss out on an $8 million vesting option for reaching 550 plate appearances.
Tue Jun 2 201523:08Marlon Byrd: Suffers Broken Wrist
Byrd suffered a fractured right wrist Tuesday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
He was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning and exited the game and X-rays revealed a broken wrist. After a slow start, Byrd hit eight home runs in May, reestablishing himself as a solid source of power in deeper formats. Even if Byrd is able to return in a couple months, a wrist injury could sap his power, which is the main reason to roster him in the first place. Skip Schumaker and Brennan Boesch represent the replacement options currently on the roster. The injury will also end up costing Byrd a $8 million option that would have vested if he reached 550 plate appearances this year, which essentially guarantees that he will be a free agent after the season.
Sun May 31 201510:36Byrd not in lineup Sunday against Nationals
Byrd is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.
With the Nationals sending right-hander Tanner Roark to the mound, manager Bryan Price will start Skip Schumaker in left field while giving Byrd a regular day off. The veteran outfielder had made five straight starts, but is batting just .205 on the year.
Mon May 25 201519:05Byrd 2-4 with home run in Monday's loss to Colorado
Byrd went 2-for-4 with a home run in Monday's loss to Colorado
Byrd hit home run number 10 on the year in Monday's loss to the Rockies. He's on pace for over 30 home runs this year but the .211 average is definitely a concern for fantasy owners. He's still available in some mixed leagues, and he can provide power production for owners who may need it.
Sat May 23 201511:53Byrd out of lineup Saturday
Byrd is out of the lineup Saturday, Fox Sports Ohio's Joe Reedy reports.
This is a very rare day off for Byrd, who is in the midst of a week-long slump. He has two hits in his last six games and his average is now just barely over the Mendoza Line (.201). Skip Schumaker will get the start in left field and hit second Saturday against the Indians.
Fri May 15 201511:04Byrd 2-2 with home run and three RBI in Thursday's win over Gian...
Byrd went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Giants.
After hitting home run number seven on Wednesday, Byrd followed that up with home run number eight on Thursday. His power numbers have been good so far in Cincinnati despite a .226 batting average. He's never been a high average guy, but hitting at Great American Ball Park is certainly going to help the home run tally.
Wed May 13 201523:37Byrd 1-3 with seventh homer and walk in Wednesday's win over Bra...
Byrd went 1-for-3 with his seventh homer and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Braves.
Byrd went on an early-May tear, collecting two hits in five consecutive games and homering in four of those contests, but he proceeded to go stone-cold thereafter, going 0-for-10 in the four games between then and Wednesday. He's been drawing a ton of walks lately, though -- 10 in his last 10 games -- pointing to a generally improved approach at the plate following a .169/.188/.273 month of April.
Tue May 5 201515:35Byrd will bat second Tuesday against Pirates
Byrd will bat second Tuesday against the Pirates, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Zack Cozart will sit due to a finger injury, opening the door for Byrd to step into the two-hole against lefty Jeff Locke. It's a minuscule sample, but Byrd is 3-for-7 with a homer in his career against Locke. Byrd is batting just .181/.216/.313 through 23 games (88 PA) this season.
Sun May 3 201509:58Byrd not in lineup Sunday against Braves
Byrd is not in the lineup Sunday against the Braves, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Byrd had made 11 straight starts in left field for the Reds, so it was likely time for the 37-year-old veteran to get a regular day off. Despite logging his third home run in Saturday's matchup, the right-hander has posted just a .529 OPS through his first 83 at-bats of 2015.
Wed Apr 29 201501:10Byrd hit second homer of season in Tuesday's win over Brewers
Byrd hit his second homer of the season in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.
Both of Byrd's homers have come against the Brewers' Kyle Lohse. Against everyone else he has just two extra-base hits this month, somehow providing the Reds even less offense from left field than they got last season. That's likely to change, but one of the reasons why they've hovered around .500.
Thu Apr 23 201517:34Byrd provided whole of Reds' scoring Thursday in loss to Milwauk...
Byrd provided the whole of the Reds' scoring Thursday in a loss to Milwaukee, going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.
It was his first homer of the year, as Byrd's been mired in a deep season-opening slump. Even after Thursday, he's hitting a miserable .125 and has struck out 18 times in 55 at-bats without drawing a walk.
