DeJuan Blair will start at center for the Mavericks against the Pelicans on Wednesday.

It is his second start of the season with his first one coming after Samuel Dalembert oversleeping and missing morning shoot around last month. Blair has been terrific based on per-minute value, so if he can elevate his 20.8 minutes per game to over 24, he could gain a nice chunk of value.

Blair is quietly averaging 8.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 steals over his last five games, so if you need a big man who can steal the ball, he's your guy. Just don't expect a lot of points as long as Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion are healthy and racking it up from the forward spots.

Blair is locked into his current role and while he has a big-time outlier in steals (2.3), he's one of the league's better big men in that department and when you add it up he's right on the border of mid-to-late round value. Brandan Wright's eventual return will hurt, but Wright doesn't have a timetable yet so owners should give Blair strong consideration as a short-term play.

Blair is at least on the radar in most leagues, but he doesn't block shots much and is not going to have any lines that will make your week at just a 20-MPG clip.

He played just 19 minutes, which makes his line even more impressive. He got some garbage time run tonight in an easy win over the Lakers, but has been playing well enough to be considered in all leagues. He's averaging nine points, seven boards, two steals and nearly a block per game thus far.

He added two blocks and shot 5-of-11 from the field. Unlike in San Antonio, the Mavericks are going to play Blair, at least until Brandan Wright comes back. Still, it's hard to like a guy with only 20 minutes per game, so he'll need an injury to be fantasy relevant in most cases.

He'll play more than he did at the end of his time in San Antonio, but he's still parked behind Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas. As long as Dirk is healthy, Blair will struggle to make a fantasy impact.

DeJuan Blair is eager to capitalize on extra playing time at PF and C while Brandan Wright (shoulder) is sidelined.

Wright doesn't have a return timetable, which gives Blair a temporarly window as the Mavs' primary backup big man. Unfortunately, the undersized big man's lack of shot-blocking severely undermines his fantasy appeal.

Rick Carlisle expects DeJuan Blair to be an "enforcer" for the Mavericks this season.

"DeJuan was a really important acquisition for us because Elton Brand didn't return," Carlisle said. Blair wa upset about falling out of the Spurs' rotation in the playoffs and he's motivated to prove his worth, but fantasy owners can't expect value while he's cleaning up minutes alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Samuel Dalembert and Brandan Wright.

DeJuan Blair said that he thinks the Spurs would have beat the Heat in the NBA Finals had he played more.

"Of course I want to get back. I don't think [the Spurs] would have came up short if I would've played but, hey, keep that out there," Blair said. It was a bumpy finish for Blair in San Antonio and he'll get a new start in Dallas. He has no fantasy value.

Mavericks officially sign F/C DeJuan Blair on Wednesday.

Blair will give the Mavericks a legitimate back up at both big-man positions, allowing Shawn Marion to focus his efforts on playing small forward all season. Blair has potential, but given his quiet role in San Antonio and the depth of the Mavs' front court, we're not expecting a breakout in Dallas this year.
