Sat Apr 12 201410:35Charlie Villanueva preps for NBA free agency
Charlie Villanueva isn't sure how much interest he'll draw as a free agent this summer, but the 29-year- old PF is eager to rebuild his value around the NBA.
"People haven't seen me play in awhile, of course it'll gonna be tough," Villanueva said. "If I have to work out [for teams] to show I still have a lot of basketball left, I'll do it ... Basically start from scratch again." He played in only 20 games this season and will be a very unlikely fantasy option no matter which team's jersey he's wearing in 2014-15.

Mon Mar 31 201423:49Villanueva back on the floor on Monday
Charlie Villanueva got back on the floor in a seven-minute effort on Monday.
Villanueva was dealing with a back issue but it really doesn't matter what's on the injury report. He's waiver wire fodder.

Mon Mar 24 201421:19Charlie Villanueva will not play vs. Jazz
Charlie Villanueva will not play on Monday vs. the Jazz due to a back issue.
He was in the rotation a bit with the Pistons not at 100 percent earlier last week, but he has two straight DNPs heading into tonight. Villanueva has no fantasy value right now.

Thu Mar 20 201401:18Charlie Villanueva scores 13 in loss
Charlie Villanueva hit 5-of-13 shots and three 3-pointers for 13 points, four rebounds and an assist in Wednesday's loss.
Villanueva had nine points in 12 minutes on Saturday, but didn't even play in his previous three games. And while we keep harping on the fact the Nuggets stink against opposing power forwards, the point was driven home by the fact that this was a season-high scoring game for Villanueva.

Fri Feb 21 201413:39Charlie Villanueva wants a buyout
Charlie Villanueva suggested that he wants a buyout from the Pistons.
Villanueva has appeared in just one game since Jan. 18 and 14 games all year. He's desperate to land somewhere he'd actually get some minutes, but that might not be in the cards. Charlie V hasn't earned more than 20 minutes a night since 2010-11.

Tue Jan 28 201420:27Charlie Villanueva not on the bench
Charlie Villanueva is not on the bench for Tuesday's game due to a stomach bug.
He hasn't played in the last five games and is out of the rotation. Villanueva set the Raptors' rookie record for points in game with 48 back in 2006, so file that away in the useless stats department.

Tue Oct 22 201320:59Charlie Villanueva leaves with sore back
Charlie Villanueva left Tuesday's preseason game with a sore back and will not return.
He didn't do anything in his three minutes and has been getting outplayed by Tony Mitchell. At this point, you have to wonder if CV will even be in the Pistons rotation this season.

Thu Sep 19 201309:00Charlie Villanueva loses $250K in Ponzi
Charlie Villanueva reportedly lost $250,000 in an alleged Ponzi scheme run by former UConn player Tate George.
George is on trial for wire fraud for his involvement in the scheme, while Villanueva was promised a $37,500 profit on his $250,000 investment. He has seen none of the money return and isn't happy about it. "It's $250,000! That could have gone to my son's education," Villanueva said. The Pistons may also feel duped by acquiring Villanueva and his huge salary a few years ago, but he's still toiling off the bench and will be paid over $8.5 million dollars this season. Unless he looks like a new player in training camp, there's no reason to draft him in most fantasy leagues.

Sun Jul 14 201312:29Pistons won't amnesty Charlie Villanueva
The Pistons will not use their amnesty provision on Charlie Villanueva this summer.
Detroit would welcome an opportunity to trade away Villanueva's expiring $8.6 million contract but they're not ready to pay him to leave. If they had decided to amnesty him they'd fall under the NBA's minimum-salary threshold by approximately $5.4 million (based upon payroll estimates), money they'd have to throw at a dwindling pool of free agents or take on via trades.

Thu Jul 11 201316:35Report: Pistons won't use compliance buyout
The Pistons won't use a compliance buyout this year, a source tells TNT's David Aldridge.
The decision means a player like Charlie Villanueva and his $8.6 million salary for 2013-14 are safe. According to Aldridge, the Pistons likely declined to use it because they need the salaries to reach the NBA's required minimum payroll.

Sun May 19 201300:18Villanueva opts in w/ Pistons for 2013-14
Charlie Villanueva has exercised his $8.6 million player option for the 2013-14 season.
It's a predictable decision which nevertheless stings the Pistons financially. CV settled into a reliable bench role as this season progressed, occasionally catching fire from downtown, but his days of fantasy usefulness have ended. The good news for Detroit is that their two highest-paid players from 2012-13, Jose Calderon and Corey Maggette, are both coming off the books as unrestricted free agents this summer.

Fri Mar 29 201323:47Charlie Villanueva a DNP-CD on Friday
Charlie Villanueva was listed as a DNP-CD for Friday's game against the Raptors.
Villanueva missed practice on Thursday due to the flu and it's possible he has simply fallen out of the rotation. He has no fantasy value at this time and we're taking him off the injury report.

Thu Mar 28 201317:54Charlie Villanueva sits out practice Thursday
Charlie Villanueva is sick and didn't attend practice Thursday.
Villanueva's status for Friday's game is unclear, which clouds his already confusing fantasy value a bit. We'll sideline him for now and label him as day-to-day but just know that Villanueva is not to be trusted in most formats.

Tue Mar 26 201322:59Charlie Villanueva awful in loss to Wolves
Charlie Villanueva, who had 15 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday, hit just 1-of-7 shots for two points, four rebounds and four assists in 14 minutes in Tuesday's loss.
He's been getting some minutes at center and always has the potential to explode off the bench for the hapless Pistons, but putting him into a fantasy lineup is akin to playing with fire.

Sat Mar 23 201322:37Villanueva scores 15 pts in fourth quarter
Charlie Villanueva scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to salvage a win for Detroit on Saturday, finishing with 18 points, four 3-pointers, four rebounds and one steal.
He only played 20 minutes, but he made the most of them. In addition to making clutch baskets, CV grabbed all four of his rebounds in the fourth quarter, he had a steal, and he contested Josh McRoberts' last-second put-back attempt just enough to force a miss. Savor this performance, because it may well be his final outburst of the 2012-13 season.

Fri Mar 8 201323:48Charlie Villanueva plays well in return
Charlie Villanueva scored 12 points in just 14 minutes against the Mavericks on Friday, adding three boards, one assist and two 3-pointers in 5-of-9 shooting.
He missed Wednesday's game due to a hamstring issue and was a big part of Detroit's fourth-quarter push. Villanueva is in a timeshare at power forward and with rookie Andre Drummond on the comeback trail, he can be left on the wire in standard leagues.
