Wed Mar 2 201114:31Johnson (quad) out for a couple days
Rays manager Joe Maddon said Wednesday that Elliot Johnson (quad) will likely be sidelined for the next couple of days.
Johnson has some tightness in his left quad, but much like his teammate Sam Fuld, the injury is not considered serious. "They're both in the same boat, just had to back off to make sure it didn't become anything serious," said Maddon. "A couple more days and they'll be back out there." The 26-year-old is competing with Felipe Lopez for a spot as a backup infielder.

Rays purchased the contract of INF Elliot Johnson from Triple-A Durham.
Johnson is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft. The 26-year-old infielder registered a solid .319/.375/.475 batting line and 11 home runs in 427 at-bats this year on the Triple-A level and could factor into the Rays' infield plans as early as the start of the 2011 season.
