Sun Jul 14 201312:16Pirates pondering Nate Schierholtz, Alex Rios
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Pirates are "studying deals" for Nate Schierholtz and Alex Rios.
Either would be an upgrade in right field, a position where the team's production (.239/.302/.377) has been lacking this season. Rogers notes that Rios "seems like a reach" for the Pirates since he's owed, between his salary and buyout, $13.5 million beyond this season. Schierholtz, who is making just $2.25 million this season, could be the more realistic fit and would form a solid platoon with Jose Tabata. Schierholtz is batting .269/.327/.498 with 11 homers and 34 RBI this season.

Sat Jul 13 201316:29Schierholtz out of the Cubs' lineup
Nate Schierholtz is out of the Cubs' lineup on Saturday.
Schierholtz is feeling general soreness, so he'll sit this evening. Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Schierholtz could sit out Sunday's game as well. Schierholtz, prime trade bait, is batting .269/.327/.498 and is on pace for 20 homers. Dave Sappelt is starting in right field for the Cubs.

Fri Jul 12 201320:59Schierholtz goes 0-for-3 with a walk in loss
Nate Schierholtz went 0-for-3 with a walk against the Cardinals on Friday.
The Northsiders are suffering through a typically awful year, but Schierholtz is enjoying the best season of his career. Entering 2013, Schierholtz had never posted a WAR of 1.0 over a six-year career. Schierholtz has accrued a 1.6 WAR for the Cubs in half a season. He's batting .269/.327/.498 and is on pace for 20 homers. Schierholtz is likely to be traded this month, which would likely increase his fantasy value.

Wed Jun 26 201300:43Schierholtz hits 11th HR in loss to Brewers
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with his 11th home run in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday.
The outfielder remains one of the only bright spots for the Cubs, as he also hit his 19th double in the game and has driven in 32 runs on the year. He doesn't have a ton of value now, but if he's traded to a contender next month he could be an asset down the fantasy stretch.

Sat Jun 22 201319:12Schierholtz homers in Cubs' loss to Houston
Nate Schierholtz hit his 10th home run of the season Saturday in the Cubs' loss to the Astros.
It has been another dismal year for the Northsiders, but Schierholtz is looking like a pretty nice catch. He has a .289/.341/.557 batting line in 62 games played and may be worth a roster spot in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed May 8 201317:24Nate Schierholtz doubles in two runs in loss
Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with a two-run double Wednesday in a losing cause against the Cardinals.
We were pretty skeptical about the Cubs' plan to use Schierholtz as a No. 5 hitter, but he's been terrific there so far, hitting .299 with four homers, 12 doubles and 17 RBI in 97 at-bats. He'll fade some offensively, but perhaps not as much as we thought. Getting out of San Francisco and into a decent ballpark for hitters seems to have done him a lot of good.

Thu Apr 11 201318:23Schierholtz has three hits in loss to Giants
Nate Schierholtz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base Thursday in a loss to the Giants.
All three hits were singles. Schierholtz is now hitting .370 (10-for-27) with one home run, three doubles, four RBI and two stolen bases on the young season. He's on the strong side of a platoon with Scott Hairston in right field, so he should be owned in all NL-only formats and could even come in handy in deeper mixed leagues which allow daily lineup changes.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, nine teams called Nate Schierholtz's representatives within 12 hours after he was non-tendered by the Phillies.
Olney lists the Yankees as one of the clubs that have interest and speculates that the Rays could be players, as well. Schierholtz possesses a so-so career .270/.319/.409 batting line but offers good defense on the outfield corners. Any team that signs him would likely be counting on him in a complementary role.

Fri Nov 30 201216:10Phillies to non-tender OF Schierholtz
The Phillies will not tender a contract to OF Nate Schierholtz.
Schierholtz made $1.3 million this season while batting .257/.321/.407 with six homers and a .728 OPS in 269 plate appearances. The Phillies weren't willing to give him a raise in arbitration, but he shouldn't have trouble latching on somewhere as a part-time outfielder.

Wed Aug 22 201219:46Nate Schierholtz takes BP
Nate Schierholtz (toe) took batting practice Wednesday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list.
It's a good first step, but Schierholtz has only missed just over a week of the 3-4 week timetable the Phillies gave him when he fractured his big right toe. Obviously running will be a bigger test for the outfielder.

Mon Aug 13 201217:24Nate Schierholtz (toe) out at least 3-4 weeks
Nate Schierholtz (toe) is expected to miss at least three to four weeks.
Schierholtz was placed on the disabled list Monday after fracturing his big right toe during his only at-bat in Sunday's game. It's a tough break for the 28-year-old, who will miss time he otherwise would have spent auditioning for a spot on the 2013 squad. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has hinted that Laynce Nix could be worked into the mix in center field during his absence. Domonic Brown is expected to stay in right field.

Tue Jul 31 201214:13Phillies acquire OF Schierholtz from Giants
Phillies acquired OF Nate Schierholtz, C Tommy Joseph and RHP Seth Rosin from the Giants for OF Hunter Pence and cash considerations.
Schierholtz is getting the change of scenery he asked for. The 28-year-old has only logged 197 plate appearances this season, but he should see semi-regular playing time in the Phillies' outfield the rest of the way. He has some pop and a strong arm, so he could turn into a useful piece of the Fightins. Schierholtz is making $1.3 million this season and remains under team control through 2014.

While he has denied making a formal request, he didn't say whether his feelings have changed on the situation.
