Fri Aug 2 201321:31Gorzelanny leaves game with elbow contusion
Tom Gorzelanny was removed from his start on Friday after just four batters, after taking a Jayson Werth line drive off of his throwing elbow.
The good news is that X-rays came back negative, so it seems likely that Gorzelanny will be able to avoid a trip to the disabled list. Alfredo Figaro replaced him in the game, and would likely fill in if Gorzelanny does have to miss a start.

Fri Aug 2 201320:56Gorzelanny leaves after being hit on wrist
Tom Gorzelanny was removed from Friday's start against the Nationals after being hit on the wrist by a line drive off the bat of Jayson Werth.
Gorzelanny set the Nats down in order in the first inning. He's pitched extremely well for the Brewers this season, posting a 2.78 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 61/24 K/BB ratio in 64 2/3 innings. He'll presumably head for X-rays, and the team should have an update on his status shortly.

Sun Jul 14 201309:27Tom Gorzelanny to remain in rotation
Tom Gorzelanny is expected to remain in the Brewers' rotation after the All-Star break.
Gorzelanny has allowed four runs -- all unearned -- over 12 innings in his two starts over the last week to cement a spot in the rotation. "We've talked about what we want to do in the second half, and that's the discussion," manager Ron Roenicke said. "I talked to (assistant general manager) Gord Ash about it today. I need to discuss it with (GM) Doug (Melvin) and then see where we are. Certainly with the way he's thrown, he's probably a guy we want back in there." Gorzelanny boasts a 1.88 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 50 strikeouts over 52 2/3 frames this season and is worth owning in NL-only formats.

Sat Jul 13 201301:05Tom Gorzelanny solid in defeat
Tom Gorzelanny surrendered just a pair of unearned runs over six innings Friday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
That's the same thing that happened in his last start against the Mets: two runs, both unearned, in six innings. And he took a loss both times. Gorzelanny has made a nice case for keeping his rotation spot after the break. If it happens, he'll be worth using in NL-only leagues.

Tue Jul 9 201321:58Tom Gorzelanny to make another start
Tom Gorzelanny will make another start on Friday against the Diamondbacks.
He's the choice over Donovan Hand, who will be available as the long reliever. Gorzelanny allowed two unearned runs over six innings against the Mets on Sunday and has a 2.12 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 46 2/3 innings this season. He's a risky play in fantasy leagues, though.

Sun Jul 7 201319:07Gorzelanny takes tough-luck loss vs. Mets
Tom Gorzelanny allowed two runs -- none earned -- on eight hits and no walks over six innings Sunday in a touch-luck loss against the Mets.
Gorzelanny struck out eight in a spot start for the injured Wily Peralta (hamstring). Unfortunately, the left-hander was done in by two Juan Francisco errors. Gorzelanny has been one of the few bright spots for the Brewers this season, posting a 2.12 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 46 2/3 innings as a swingman. Gorzelanny is expected to return to the bullpen.

Thu Jun 6 201323:24Tom Gorzelanny to make spot start Saturday
Tom Gorzelanny will make a spot start on Saturday against the Phillies.
He's getting the ball in place of the injured Marco Estrada (hamstring). "We're not asking him to go five, six innings," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "If he had all 10-pitch innings maybe he'd be able to do it, but the pitch count whether he can go 50, 60, I don't know." Gorzelanny is expected to return to the bullpen after the start.

Thu Dec 20 201213:47Gorzelanny's two-year deal worth $6 million
Tom Gorzelanny's new two-year agreement with the Brewers will be worth a total of $6 million.
That's not a bad score for the 30-year-old lefty, who has an ugly 4.41 career ERA and 1.45 career WHIP. Gorzelanny reinvented himself in 2012 as a reliever and will serve as the long man out of the Brewers' bullpen in 2013.

The Brewers plan to use new left-hander Tom Gorzelanny out of the bullpen next season.

Fri Nov 30 201222:46Nationals non-tender Tom Gorzelanny
Nationals non-tendered LHP Tom Gorzelanny.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, as Gorzelanny pitched very well in relief for the Nationals in 2012, posting a 2.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 62/30 K/BB ratio over 72 innings. He should have no problem finding another job on the free agent market.

Tue Oct 2 201222:10Gorzelanny fans five in spot start vs. Phills
Tom Gorzelanny pitched decently in a spot start against the Phillies on Tuesday, surrendering one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Gorzelanny racked up five strikeouts in the game while walking just two. The only damage against him came on a solo homer from Darin Ruf in the fourth inning. It was just his first start of the season, but Gorzelanny did nice work for the Nationals in a relief role. He finishes the season with a 4-2 record, one save, a 2.88 ERA and 62/30 K/BB ratio in 72 innings.

Fri Mar 30 201210:24Cubs looked at reacquiring Gorzelanny
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Cubs looked into re-acquiring Tom Gorzelanny from the Nationals earlier this month.
It's possible they discussed a swap involving Gorzelanny and Marlon Byrd, who reportedly is on the Nationals' radar, though we would think the Cubs would be looking for some younger players. Gorzelanny is slated for long relief this season in DC, but he's good enough to serve at the back end of someone's rotation.

Tue Jan 17 201211:15Nats avoid arbitration with Tom Gorzelanny
The Nationals and LHP Tom Gorzelanny avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

Sun Dec 11 201117:41Report: Nationals could non-tender three
The Nationals could non-tender catcher Jesus Flores and left-handers Tom Gorzelanny and Doug Slaten prior to Monday night's deadline, according to Pete Kerzel of MASNSports.com
The 27-year-old Flores batted .209/.253/.314 with one home run over 91 plate appearances with the Nationals this season and is eligible for arbitration for the third time this winter. Washington may elect to go with youngster Derek Norris behind starter Wilson Ramos instead of Flores, who missed nearly two full seasons recovering from shoulder injuries. Gorzelanny had a 4-6 record with a 4.03 ERA in 2011 while swinging between the rotation and bullpen. If he's tendered a contract, he's likely headed back to the 'pen as a swingman. Slaten posted a 4.41 ERA over 31 games this year and missed three months with an elbow injury.
