Wed Aug 17 202216:11Nick Lodolo Holds Phillies Scoreless Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds hurler Nick Lodolo had one of his finest games on the mound Wednesday when his team beat the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0. He threw seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and recording eight strikeouts. Lodolo also walked just two, which is impressive considering his 10.4% walk rate. It's been a mixed bag for the rookie, who's posted a 4.12 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 54.2 innings but owns an inflated 1.57 WHIP. There's value in those numbers in deeper leagues, but Lodolo is better suited for dynasty leagues as he was the 31st best prospect in all of baseball coming into the season, according to MLB.com.

Fri Aug 12 202200:23Nick Lodolo Fails To Make It Through Five Innings
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo wasn't his sharpest in Thursday's Field Of Dreams Game as he gave up four runs over 4 2/3 IP in the 4-2 loss to the Cubs. The 24-year-old recorded two quick outs to begin the ballgame, but the Cubs were still able to rally for three runs before the inning was over. Lodolo would go on to allow another run in the fourth before leaving with the bases in the fifth, but thankfully the bullpen was able to strand his runners. He finished the game with seven hits allowed and a 6/4 K/BB as he continues to have an up-and-down rookie campaign. He'll take a 4.72 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with 64 K through 47 2/3 IP into his next scheduled start versus the Phillies next week.

Mon Aug 1 202215:13Nick Lodolo Turns In Solid Start On Sunday
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo logged a solid start on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. The left-hander allowed just four hits, two walks and an earned run in six innings against Baltimore, striking out seven batters in the process. All told, Lodolo generated 17 swinging strikes on 98 pitches and finished with a 28% CSW rate. He got seven swinging strikes with his sinker, six with his curveball and four with his changeup. Sunday's game marked the fifth time in eight starts this season that Lodolo has struck out at least seven batters.

Tue Jul 5 202223:40Nick Lodolo Solid In Return
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo looked to be in excellent shape in his first appearance off the injured list Tuesday, holding the New York Mets to no runs on three hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out eight batters, tying his season high. Lodolo now carries a 4.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 27 strikeouts through four starts and 19 1/3 innings this season. This was by far the sharpest Lodolo has looked all year, which bodes very well for fantasy managers who have held him through his back injury or added him off the waiver wire to speculate on strikeouts.

Thu Jun 2 202216:54Nick Lodolo Completes Bullpen Session On Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (back) completed a bullpen session on Wednesday. According to Reds beat writer Bobby Nightengale, Lodolo threw between 30 and 35 pitches and the plan is for him to throw another bullpen session on Saturday. The reports from Wednesday's session all appear to be positive. Lodolo has been out since late April due to a lower-back strain. He made three starts prior to the injury and went 1-2 with a 5.52 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP. He can remain on waivers in all standard sized redraft leagues for now.

Sun May 29 202211:17Nick Lodolo To Throw A Bullpen Soon
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that left-hander Nick Lodolo (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in a few days. Lodolo is currently on the 10-day injured list with a lower-back strain, but he's making progress. The 24-year-old southpaw probably won't be back for at least another couple weeks. Before the injury, he had allowed nine earned runs on 18 hits while walking five and striking out 19 in 14 2/3 innings over his first three major league starts. Lodolo has plenty of long-term upside, but it remains to be seen if he'll even have a rotation spot to return to in Cincinnati now that veteran left-hander Mike Minor (shoulder) is set for his season debut this upcoming Friday.

Thu May 5 202211:47Nick Lodolo To Return To Rotation On Saturday
Cincinnati Reds rookie left-hander Nick Lodolo (back) is penciled in to start Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lodolo has been on the injured list for a week with a lower back strain, but the 24-year-old southpaw is scheduled to rejoin the Reds this weekend. It's a nice matchup to return to, but the Reds could take a cautious approach with their young left-handed arm, making him somewhat risky. In his first three major league starts, Lodolo has allowed nine earned runs on 18 hits (three home runs) while walking five and striking out 19 in 14 2/3 innings pitched. The Reds haven't announced a starter for Game 2 on Saturday, but Connor Overton is scheduled to go Friday, with Tyler Mahle pitching Sunday against the Bucs.

Thu Apr 28 202211:36Nick Lodolo Placed On IL, Mike Moustakas Activated
The Cincinnati Reds placed rookie left-hander Nick Lodolo (back) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a lower back strain and activated third baseman Mike Moustakas (biceps) from the injured list in a corresponding move. It's unclear what the Reds will do for a fifth starter with Lodolo sidelined. Lodolo will be eligible to return as soon as May 5, but it's unclear if that will happen. The young southpaw struggled in his MLB debut, but overall he's been solid with a 3.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 15:2 K:BB in 10 2/3 innings in his last two starts. Moustakas will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh on Thursday against San Diego Padres right-hander Nick Martinez. The 33-year-old still feels his biceps injury when throwing, so he's expected to stay off the field for at least another couple of days.

Tue Apr 12 202214:32Nick Lodolo Will Start On Wednesday
The Cincinnati Reds announced that pitching prospect Nick Lodolo will make his Major League debut on Wednesday. He'll take on the Cleveland Guardians in his first start at the Major League level. One of the best pitching prospects in baseball, Lodolo pitched to a 2.31 ERA in 13 starts spanning 50.2 minor league innings last season. He spent most of his time at Double-A but finished the year at Triple-A. The left-hander is certainly worth a pickup in most leagues, but as with all rookies might struggle at times this season. He's worth a look as a streaming option in his Major League debut against Cleveland. The Guardians entered play on Tuesday with the most runs scored in the league with 28 through their first four games. However, 27 of those runs came in the last two games.

Mon Apr 4 202214:22Nick Lodolo Makes Opening Day Roster
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo has made the team's Opening Day roster and will join the team this week on the road against the Atlanta Braves. The left-handed pitching prospect will make his major league debut on April 13 on the road against the Cleveland Guardians. With Luis Castillo and Mike Minor both opening the year on the injured list with shoulder injuries, the 24-year-old southpaw will open the season as Cincy's No. 5 hurler. Lodolo has plenty of long-term upside as a front-of-the-rotation arm for the Reds, but he won't carry much redraft value in 2022, and there's a good chance he's sent to the minor leagues once one of Castillo or Minor are ready to make their season debut.

Thu Mar 31 202210:33Nick Lodolo A Candidate To Start Sixth Game
Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Hunter Greene was named to the team's Opening Day rotation on Wednesday, but fellow prospect Nick Lodolo is a candidate to start the sixth game of the regular season. Injuries to Luis Castillo (shoulder) and Mike Minor (shoulder) have opened up opportunity at the back end of Cincinnati's rotation to begin the season. The Reds are going with a four-man rotation to begin the year, but Lodolo looks like a logical choice for the fifth spot once the team needs it. The young left-hander may not stick in the rotation for long, depending on when Castillo and Minor are ready to make their season debuts, but Lodolo's dominance in the minors and top-prospect status should at least make him interesting in DFS and deep mixed leagues to begin the season.

Tue Mar 29 202219:22Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo Could Begin In Rotation
With Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tony Santillan now in the bullpen, there's a much better shot that pitching prospects Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo open the year in the team's starting rotation with Luis Castillo (shoulder) and Mike Minor (shoulder) set to begin the year on the injured list. Greene and Lodolo are the team's top two prospects, respectively. Greene, a 22-year-old righty, is extremely enticing in fantasy due to his power repertoire and improved changeup. If his offspeed proves effective in the majors, Greene's elite fastball could keep him in the rotation all year. Lodolo, a 24-year-old southpaw, can locate all of his pitches for strikes and should combine with Greene to form a dynamic duo at the top of the Reds rotation down the line.

Wed Feb 16 202222:12Nick Lodolo Moving Past Last Year's Injuries
Cincinnati Reds farm director Shawn Pender said that left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo (finger, shoulder) is feeling good, and the team thinks they have figured out his blister issues and shoulder fatigue, which Lodolo took the blame for. MLB Pipeline ranked Lodolo as the No. 31 overall prospect at the end of the 2021 season. The 24-year-old former first-round pick in the 2019 draft had a 2.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 78 strikeouts and 11 walks in 50 2/3 innings over 13 starts for Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville last season. Lodolo was the first pitcher off the board in the 2019 draft (seventh overall) and was an advanced college arm with three above-average pitches. He has a very high ceiling as a starter at the next level and could potentially debut for the Reds in 2021 if he can stay healthy.

Sat Aug 14 202107:01Nick Lodolo Dealing With Shoulder Fatigue
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo will skip his next start at Triple-A Louisville due to left shoulder fatigue. Lodolo is widely regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the Cincinnati organization. He posted a 1.84 ERA over 10 starts in Double-A this season, although he's struggled since being promoted to Triple-A, allowing four runs across 5 1/3 innings of work spanning two starts. The team has yet to comment on how long Lodolo will be sidelined with the shoulder fatigue issue. There had been some hope that Lodolo would get a chance to pitch in the big leagues before the end of the season but this may throw a monkey wrench in those plans, depending on the severity of the injury.
