Fri Aug 1 201421:53Hernandez turned in strong performance in 2-1 win over Nationals...
Hernandez turned in a strong performance in a 2-1 win over the Nationals on Friday night, allowing just one run (unearned) on five hits while walking one and striking out three over eight innings.
Hernandez (6-8, 3.87 ERA) has turned things around since the beginning of July and has now produced quality starts in five of his last six outings. The Phillies squeezed out enough runs to get him a win in this one, but the offensive support has been spotty at best making him a marginal play even with his modest resurgence. However, he does have a favorable match-up in his next outing at home against Houston.
Sun Jul 27 201416:47Roberto Hernandez picks up fifth win
Roberto Hernandez held the Diamondbacks to two runs over seven innings in Sunday's 4-2 victory.
The sinkerballer registered just one strikeout, but he yielded only four hits and didn't walk a batter, requiring just 75 pitches to complete the seven frames. Hernandez holds a 3.65 ERA since the beginning of May, though it's come along with a 46/43 K/BB ratio. He'll take on the Nationals on the road in his next outing.

Wed Jul 23 201401:12Hernandez takes no-decision in 14-inning loss
Roberto Hernandez got a no-decision, allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings, as the Phillies lost 9-6 in 14 innings to the Giants on Tuesday.
Hernandez was making his first start since July 9. He out-dueled Giants starter Yusmeiro Petit, but the Phillies' bullpen could not hold the lead. Hernandez allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out only one in the effort. He has had an uninspiring season, carrying a 4.25 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 71/54 K/BB ratio. Hernandez matches up next against the D'Backs at home on Sunday.

Wed Jul 9 201422:54Hernandez stellar over eight innings vs. MIL
Roberto Hernandez needed only 84 pitches to hold the Brewers to one run over eight innings in Wednesday's victory.
Hernandez very easily could have taken the hill for the ninth inning, but manager Ryne Sandberg opted to let closer Jonathan Papelbon pick up the save. Hernandez limited the Brewers to three hits and two walks while striking out three in his most dominant start of the season. Now with a 4.22 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and a 70/51 K/BB ratio, Hernandez will face the Braves in Atlanta when the Phillies return from the All-Star break.

Roberto Hernandez was hit hard in a losing effort against the Pirates on Friday, surrendering five runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Hernandez also issued four free passes while striking out three on the afternoon. Most of the damage came during a four-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Jordy Mercer. The veteran right-hander now sports a troublesome 4.48 ERA and 1.52 WHIP through 92 1/3 innings on the season. He'll look to improve upon his 3-8 record when he does battle against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Wed Jun 18 201416:15Roberto Hernandez good enough to win third
Roberto Hernandez allowed five runs over six innings but was good enough to pick up the victory in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Braves.
Hernandez walked five on the day, yielded eight hits -- including two homers -- and struck out just two. Luckily for him, though, is that Aaron Harang was even worse. The righty has permitted at least four runs in three of his last four starts and now holds a 4.52 on the year. Hernandez will try to right the ship next week versus the Marlins.

Fri Jun 13 201420:43Roberto Hernandez tossed after hitting Castro
Roberto Hernandez was ejected from Friday's game against the Cubs in the sixth inning after hitting Starlin Castro with a pitch.
To that point, Casto had provided the game's only offense with a two-run blast his previous trip to the plate. Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg was also given the gate for coming out to defend his pitcher. Hernandez finished the evening allowing two runs on three hits and a pair of walks over 5 2/3 innings while striking out five.

Sat Jun 7 201420:55Roberto Hernandez gives up four runs in loss
Roberto Hernandez gave up four runs over four innings before being removed for a pinch-hitter Saturday against the Reds.
Hernandez's command has deserted him of late; he's 14 in 21 1/3 innings over his last four starts. Overall, he's up to 32 walks in 62 innings for the year, a huge increase from the 38 walks he issued in 151 innings for the Rays last season. He's just too hittable to succeed with a walk rate like that.

He'll aim to rebound this weekend against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Roberto Hernandez took the no-decision, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings as the Phillies defeated the Rockies 6-3 on Wednesday.

The right-hander allowed six hits -- including a solo home run to Justin Morneau -- while walking five and striking out four. Hernandez has a mediocre 42/27 K/BB ratio and a 1.56 in 52 2/3 innings, but owns a 3.76 ERA. He will face the Mets at home in his next start.

Fri May 23 201423:23Hernandez gives up two runs in loss
Roberto Hernandez gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Dodgers.
Hernandez had his last turn in the rotation skipped, so this was his first start in two weeks. He gave up seven hits (including a home run to Carl Crawford) and four walks, but managed to keep his team in the ballgame. However, the Phillies' offense just couldn't get anything going against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers' bullpen. Hernandez fell to 2-2 with the loss and now has a 3.83 ERA and 38/22 K/BB ratio over 47 innings this season.

Tue Apr 29 201418:53Roberto Hernandez to have turn skipped
Roberto Hernandez is likely to have his next turn in the rotation skipped.
The Phillies have a couple off days this week, so they're expected to use Hernandez in the bullpen until May 6. "He's done it before," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He knows the routine of pitching an inning or two. It could be good for us the next few days."

Sat Apr 26 201402:07Roberto Hernandez gives up four runs
Roberto Hernandez gave up four runs in six innings Friday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Hernandez is still getting his grounders, but he's doing it in front of an old infield, and he's also giving up too many homers and walks. As a result, his ERA stands at 5.81 after five starts. He's not close to being replaced, but he shouldn't be on fantasy rosters.

Sun Apr 20 201421:19Hernandez knocked around by Rockies Sunday
Roberto Hernandez allowed six runs on nine hits over four innings of a no-decision against the Rockies on Sunday.
Hernandez had a 3.86 ERA going into the start and a 5.75 ERA afterwards. The best part of the day for Hernandez was the fact that the Phillies came back to win the game, saving the right-hander from taking his first loss. A matchup with the struggling Diamondbacks offense Friday could be the cure to what ails Hernandez.

Wed Mar 19 201417:29Roberto Hernandez gives up seven runs
Roberto Hernandez was tagged for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Hernandez is having quite the Jekyll and Hyde spring, though maybe that's appropriate given his past identity change. Last week, he was perfect for five innings before giving up a lone single. Today, he gave up 11 hits, including a homer and a couple of doubles. This is the kind of inconsistency Phillies fans should probably get used to.

Thu Mar 13 201416:16Roberto Hernandez shuts down Yankees
Roberto Hernandez was perfect for five innings before giving up a single in the sixth Thursday in the Phillies' 6-2 win over a Yankees split-squad.
Hernandez was pulled immediately after the single. Of his 15 outs, 10 came on the ground, which is exactly what the Phillies want to see from him. He has a 2.04 ERA after four starts. Still, he shouldn't be regarded as more than a $1 pick in NL-only leagues.
