Mon May 24 201015:40John Maine out with rotator cuff tendinitis
An MRI Monday on John Maine's right shoulder revealed rotator cuff tendinitis, according to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.
Maine insisted that his shoulder was fine when the Mets placed him on the disabled list over the weekend, but has since admitted to feeling some discomfort. Now we have an official diagnoses and he can begin rehabbing the ailment. Look for him to return in about three weeks.

Sat May 22 201017:10Maine says something 'not right' w/ shoulder
John Maine finally acknowledged Saturday that there is something "not right" with his right shoulder.
Maine was upset Friday when the Mets put him on the disabled list, but it was obviously the right decision if he indeed has a shoulder injury. "There's still something going on back there," the right-hander said. "Who knows what it is? It's something that has to be found. But if everything comes back good, I'll deal with it and pitch like I have been."

Fri May 21 201018:53Maine placed on DL with shoulder weakness
Mets placed RHP John Maine on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder weakness.
He's scheduled to undergo tests next week, so the Mets seem to be going with a hunch here, similar to Jerry Manuel's decision to remove him from Thursday's start against the Nationals in the first inning. The Mets rotation was already a huge question mark with Maine in it, but it's hard to tell where they'll go from here.
Fri May 21 201008:40Maine criticizes Jerry Manuel
John Maine criticized Mets manager Jerry Manuel for removing him from Thursday's game against the Nationals after just five pitches.
"There's no reason I should be seeing a (expletive) doctor tomorrow," said Maine, who was removed for diminished velocity and poor mechanics. "I feel something all the time. We're pitchers. Every pitcher does." Maine claims that he did not feel any pain on the mound, but Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen called Maine "a habitual liar in a lot of ways as far as his own health." We have no way of knowing if that is true, but even if it is, Warthen should have chosen his words more carefully. The relationship between all involved may be permanently strained.

Thu May 20 201020:37Maine pulled Thurs. for precautionary reasons
John Maine was pulled Thursday for "precautionary reasons" and will have his throwing arm examined Friday in New York.
Mets manager Jerry Manuel noticed a dip in Maine's velocity after just five pitches Thursday and decided to yank him. Manuel also saw that the right-hander was using a different delivery, possibly to compensate for an injury. We should all know more when he is checked out by doctors on Friday.

Thu May 20 201019:36Maine leaves Thursday's game with injury
John Maine left Thursday's game in the first inning with an apparent injury.
Maine faced only one Nationals hitter before departing and walked him. Raul Valdez replaced the right-hander on the mound.
Sat May 15 201022:20John Maine hammered in loss to Marlins
John Maine surrendered six earned runs over five innings Saturday evening as the Mets lost to the Marlins.
Not a pretty sight for Mets fans. Maine, who had been relatively solid in his last several outings, was torched for three runs in the first inning and another three in the fifth. He's 1-3 on the year with a 6.13 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP. Avoid him like the plague in fantasy leagues.
Mon May 10 201023:03Maine takes loss vs. Nationals
John Maine yielded two runs over six innings in a 3-2 loss to the Nationals on Monday night.
Maine only made two mistakes -- back-to-back homers to Adam Kennedy and Ryan Zimmerman in the third inning -- but they were enough to cost him a chance at the victory. He needed 114 pitches to make it through six innings by virtue of four free passes. On the bright side, Maine has allowed three runs or less in each of his last five starts (including a rain-shorted start on April 23) lowering his ERA from 13.50 to 5.45 in the process. He'll square off against the Marlins this weekend.
Tue May 4 201022:06Maine takes no-decision vs. Reds
John Maine gave up two runs -- one earned -- over six innings as part of a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, Fernando Nieve spoiled his chance at a win by giving up back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Maine has now allowed three earned runs over his last two starts (12 innings), lowering his ERA from 8.64 to 5.97 in the process. We're not ready to say he's back, but his place in the rotation seems pretty safe for now. He'll get the Nationals next week.
Wed Apr 28 201016:14Mets' Maine fans nine in win over Dodgers
John Maine recorded his first win of the season by allowing three runs -- two earned -- in six innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Maine fanned nine, his high total since his signature game when he struck out 14 in 7 2/3 innings of one-hit ball against the Marlins on Sept. 29, 2007. He showed his best velocity of the season today, so he wasn't just taking advantage of a struggling Dodger offense. Still, he'll have to do it more than once before he'll again be worth using in fantasy leagues.
Sun Apr 25 201018:03Maine ready to make Wednesday start for Mets
John Maine told ESPNNewYork's Adam Rubin that he is "good to go" for his scheduled Wednesday start.
Maine left Friday night's start with muscle spasms in his non-throwing arm. It doesn't appear to be a problem that will linger.

Sat Apr 24 201012:18Maine expects to make next start
John Maine told ESPNNewYork's Adam Rubin that he expects to make his next start.
Maine left Friday night's start with muscle spasms in his non-throwing arm and it looks like there's not much more to it than that. The Mets haven't put him on the disabled list, so if he's feeling up to making the start, there's little reason that they would have someone else take his turn in the rotation.

Fri Apr 23 201021:02Maine has spasms and pain in left elbow
John Maine was diagnosed with muscle spasms and pain in his left elbow.
The good news is that it's his non-throwing arm. He's currently listed as day-to-day.

Fri Apr 23 201020:12Maine exits with undisclosed injury
John Maine left Friday's start against the Braves during the fourth inning with an undisclosed injury.
He allowed one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings before exiting. It appeared that he was pointing to his left arm, so it's possible it could have cramped up. For what it's worth, Maine left a start against the Phillies in July of 2008 with a similar problem.

Sun Apr 18 201023:45Mets' Maine takes no-decision versus Cards
John Maine yielded three runs in five innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.
That's about the best that can be expected from Maine with the way he's throwing right now. He gave up six hits, walked four and hit a batter, yet he managed to keep the Mets in the game. It was tied when he departed.
Wed Apr 14 201009:36Maine's rotation spot in jeopardy?
Mets manager Jerry Manuel suggested that John Maine's rotation spot could be in jeopardy after he gave up eight runs over just three innings against the Rockies on Tuesday.
"I think those things we have to talk about," said Manuel. "Right now, right after this game, you have to kind of sleep on that and see how you feel tomorrow. Hopefully he feels OK. But you have to have dialogue about it. That's just the business that we're in." Maine's stuff just hasn't looked right after undergoing shoulder surgery in September of 2008. It would be best if he figured things out quickly, but the Mets could consider moving Fernando Nieve or Hisanori Takahashi to the rotation.

Tue Apr 13 201023:50Maine knocked around by Rockies
John Maine was hammered for eight runs over three innings in an 11-3 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday night.
Pathetic. Maine touched 91 mph on the radar gun, however he had absolutely no life on his pitches. The worst of it was in the third inning, when he gave up six runs, all with two outs. Maine has a bloated 13.50 ERA and 2.38 WHIP over his first two starts. Naturally, he should be avoided in all formats right now.
Wed Apr 7 201023:52Mets' Maine gives up four runs
John Maine surrendered four runs in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Marlins.
The idea that Maine might still actually be the Mets' second-best starter, even while throwing this poorly, might just be the scariest thing about the team this year. His stuff hasn't come all of the way back following last year's shoulder injury, and until it does, he's going to keep getting hit. He allowed eight hits, including a couple of homers, tonight.
