The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Blanco batted .235/.301/.346 with 10 homers in 2012 for the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, but Philadelphia released him this past February. Blanco didn't pick up a contract from a different organization in 2013, so he's decided to re-join his former team.

Nationals reassigned INF Andres Blanco to minor league camp.
This latest series of cuts means that Stephen Lombardozzi is all but guaranteed a spot on the Opening Day roster. Blanco, a non-roster invitee, had just two hits in 32 at-bats (.063) this spring. He has an out-clause in his minor league contract and Nationals' manager Davey Johnson suspects that the Phillies could have interest.

Andres Blanco (back) is not healthy enough to be added to the ALCS roster.
The stress fracture in Blanco's back is still bothering him, so the Rangers will likely stick with Esteban German as their utility infielder for the ALCS. "I still haven't proved I can swing from the left-side," Blanco said. "I probably won't be on the roster."

Andres Blanco may not be on the Rangers' postseason roster due to lingering problems with a stress fracture in his lower back.
Blanco played in back-to-back games over the weekend, but felt significant pain. The 27-year-old originally suffered the injury back in early-July. The Rangers were hoping to have him available as the backup to Elvis Andrus, but those duties will likely fall to Michael Young, who started at shortstop Tuesday for the first time since 2008. Esteban German is the most likely candidate to replace Blanco on the playoff roster.

We heard over the weekend that he was only able to play catch, but that's apparently not the case. Blanco said Monday that he hasn't had any issues since ramping up his rehab while Rangers manager Ron Washington expects him to return before rosters expand on September 1.
