Padres transferred LHP Cory Luebke from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Luebke has a partial ligament tear in his left elbow, and manager Bud Black revealed Sunday that the southpaw is leaning towards undergoing Tommy John surgery. It's a shame, as he was off to a fine start this season after last year's impressive showing. If he does indeed go under the knife, Luebke figures to be out until around midseason next year.

A second MRI taken Wednesday on Cory Luebke's left elbow confirmed a partial ligament tear.
Luebke is currently deciding between surgery and rehab but seems likely to ultimately go under the knife. Tommy John surgery would sideline him through May of 2013.

Wed May 9 201214:25Luebke (elbow) to get second opinion Thursday
Cory Luebke will get a second opinion on his left elbow from Dr. Lewis Yocum on Thursday.
Luebke was placed on the disabled list last week with what was termed as a strained left elbow, but an MRI revealed ligament damage. Season-ending Tommy John surgery is on the table, but he'll get a second opinion before a course of action is decided.

Sat May 5 201209:44Luebke (elbow) to meet with team doctors
Padres GM Josh Byrnes said Friday that Cory Luebke (elbow) will meet with team's doctors this weekend to get a better idea of what the next step will be.
Luebke had an MRI exam Wednesday and is considering Tommy John surgery. It's clear his condition is far more serious than what was initially reported. The 27-year-old signed a $12 million contract extension with the Padres this offseason and is currently signed through 2015. If Luebke were to need the surgery, he would be out for the remainder of the season.

According to the Union-Tribune San Diego, Cory Luebke may need Tommy John surgery to repair his sore left elbow.
Luebke went for an MRI Wednesday, and the Padres are awaiting the results. If Luebke were to need the surgery, it would be a devastating blow to the Padres' rotation. Stay tuned for further updates as we know more about the situation.

Padres placed LHP Cory Luebke on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28, with left elbow soreness.
The Padres originally expected him to miss just one start, but they've decided to play it safe and DL him. He's expected to be ready when his time is up. Jeff Suppan has been summoned from Triple-A to fill in for Luebke.

Cory Luebke will be skipped on his next turn through the Padres' rotation because of left elbow tightness.
The Friars don't seem concerned that it's going to be a lingering issue. Luebke, 27, has registered a superb 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 31 innings of work this season and remains a more-than-solid fantasy starter. Jeff Suppan will take his place Wednesday against the Brewers.

Cory Luebke improved to 3-1 on the season by allowing two runs over six innings in a 5-3 win over the Giants on Friday.
Luebke scattered seven hits (including a leadoff homer by Angel Pagan) while fanning three and walking none. The 27-year-old southpaw has allowed two runs or less in each of his last four starts and now owns a 2.61 ERA on the year. While he's flying under the radar a bit by virtue of pitching in San Diego, but has quickly emerged as one of the best left-handed starters in the National League. He'll get the Brewers next week.

Cory Luebke allowed two hits over eight scoreless innings in a victory over the Phillies on Saturday.
Luebke was brilliant, but he wasn't allowed to go for the shutout. Huston Street spoiled that, giving up a run in the ninth, but the Padres still won 5-1 to improve to 4-12 on the season. Luebke, at 2-1 with a 2.52 ERA for the season, has now pretty obviously established himself as one of the game's top young lefties.

Cory Luebke walked four Wednesday against the Diamondbacks but wound up allowing just one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 2-1 win.
He struck out five, picking up a no-decision as the Padres rallied against the D'Backs bullpen. Luebke had a terrific spring, but he hasn't been terribly sharp in his first two outings of the season, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP. He's struck out 11 over 10 innings, though, and we still really like him for fantasy purposes this season. The young lefty gets the Rockies at Coors next week.

Cory Luebke was roughed up by the Dodgers on Friday, surrendering six runs -- five earned -- in 4 2/3 innings.
Luebke struck out six and walked just one, but he allowed nine hits, including a couple of big ones from Andre Ethier that combined to drive in four runs. Luebke still projects as one of the NL's better lefties for the season.

Cory Luebke had his worst outing of the spring Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings against the Rangers.
Mike Napoli got to him with a pair of solo homers. The good news is that he struck out six batters, improving his spring K/BB ratio to 22/4 over 18 1/3 innings. After a 3.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 154 strikeout over 139 2/3 innings last season, Luebke looks ready to avoid a sophomore slump.

Cory Luebke's spring dominance continued Thursday, as he held the Indians to one run on four hits while recording six strikeouts over five innings.
Travis Hafner took Luebke deep in the second inning, but he cruised otherwise. The young left-hander has been lights-out this spring, boasting a 1.93 ERA and terrific 16/3 K/BB ratio over 14 innings. We try not to read too much into spring numbers, but Luebke certainly hasn't done anything to diminish his sleeper appeal.

Luebke struck out six in the game and needed 116 pitches to get through the six frames. The young left-hander fell back a bit in September, but his rookie season was very impressive, as he ends up with a 3.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 154 strikeout over 139 2/3 innings. He'll be locked into a rotation spot next year and has significant fantasy upside.

Cory Luebke dominated a punchless Rockies team in Denver on Monday, allowing two runs on just one hit and three walks in seven innings of an 8-2 Padres victory.
Luebke struck out nine in one of the better performances you'll ever see from an opposing pitcher in the thin air of Colorado. Luebke allowed his only hit of the night in the sixth, where Mark Ellis tagged him for a two-run homer. The quality start was his second straight after he turned in three consecutive non-quality outings between August 28 and September 8. He'll bring a 3.23 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 148/40 K/BB ratio into his final start of the season on Sunday, which will come at home against the Dodgers.

Cory Luebke allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings and struck out nine Thursday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
Luebke gave up just three hits, but two were solo homers from Paul Goldschmidt and Justin Upton. That was enough to do him in with Ian Kennedy dealing once again. Luebke is 5-9 despite a 3.28 ERA.

Cory Luebke yielded three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Luebke gave up a homer in each of the first three innings before settling down. He ended up striking out five and walking three, but owners shouldn't panic. Luebke came into today with a 1.88 ERA over his previous four starts and gets a home start against the Rockies next time out.

Cory Luebke struck out eight and walked none as part of a no-decision against the Marlins Sunday.
Luebke gave up just one earned run and three hits over six innings, but was forced to throw 103 pitches. He's going to struggle for wins thanks to San Diego's weak offense, but the strikeouts more than make up for it. Luebke has fanned 112 batters in 105 1/3 innings on the season.
