Wed Sep 14 201122:15Ramon Hernandez homers, doubles
Ramon Hernandez doubled, homered and drove in three runs in Wednesday's win over the Cubs.
Hernandez's 12th home run of the season was his first in 20 games. With Ryan Hanigan and Devin Mesoraco on the 40-man roster and Yasmani Grandal in the pipeline, Hernandez is unlikely to be back with the Reds in 2012.

Fri Aug 26 201113:54Report: Ramon Hernandez claimed, pulled back
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Ramon Hernandez was claimed off waivers but has been pulled back by the Reds.
Heyman doesn't reveal who put in a claim for the catcher, but he was heavily linked to the Giants prior to the deadline, so the claim might have come from the D'Backs in an effort to block him from going to San Fran. Hernandez is projected to be a Type A free agent over the winter, but it's no guarantee that the Reds would offer him arbitration.

Wed Aug 24 201115:34Report: Ramon Hernandez placed on waivers
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that Ramon Hernandez has been placed on waivers.
Players are placed on waivers all the time in August, but Hernandez is one of the more interesting names. While Reds general manager Walt Jocketty decided against selling at the trade deadline, he may be willing to part with the veteran backstop now. Hernandez, 35, is batting .292/.350/.465 with 11 homers and 33 RBI over 286 plate appearances this season. He currently projects as a Type A free agent.

Sun Jul 31 201118:50Giants still eyeing trade for Ramon Hernandez
Giants beat writer Hank Schulman believes the team will target Ramon Hernandez in an August waiver trade.
Apparently Hernandez was the only catcher Giants general manager Brian Sabean wanted to add before the deadline. The Reds are slowely slipping out of contention, so look for a trade to go down with San Francisco if no N.L. team outside of Philadelphia and Atlanta claims the backstop when he gets placed on waivers.

Sun Jul 31 201109:19Report: Ramon Hernandez won't be traded
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Ramon Hernandez will not be traded because Reds manager Dusty Baker prefers to have a veteran during a playoff race rather than a rookie like Devin Mesoraco.
It seems foolish not to deal Hernandez while he's having a nice year and hand over the catching duties to Ryan Hanigan and Mesoraco, but it's really no surprise Baker (and GM Walt Jocketty) is taking this stance. It might make a little more sense if the Reds weren't three games below .500 and 6.5 out of first place.

Fri Jul 29 201117:40Reds not listening to offers for Hernandez
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Friday that he hasn't listened to trade offers for Ramon Hernandez.
"I haven't no, and I don't know if I would," said Jocketty. "I still think he's a guy that can help us with this year. I think his value is greater to us now than if we were to move him. You're not going to get the value in return for him that he gives our club. That's why we would hold on to him." The Reds' playoff chances seem to be fading by the minute, but Jocketty is adamant that they are "not selling." If he changes his mind, the Giants would be a natural fit.

Hernandez blasted a home run to center field in the second inning and added an RBI single in a five-run 10th. The 35-year-old catcher is now batting .318/.374/.540 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI in 52 games but will continue sharing time with Ryan Hanigan. Wed Jul 6 201115:18Report: Giants like Ramon Hernandez
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the Giants "like" Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez.
No word on if he likes them back. In all seriousness, though the Reds have Ryan Hanigan on the major league roster and Devin Mesoraco and Yasmani Grandal in the minor leagues, it's hard to see why a contending team would be motivated to move him. Schulman also speculates that the Cubs could move Geovany Soto or Koyie Hill, though they aren't in talks with the Giants right now.

Fri May 27 201123:15Ramon Hernandez takes Kimbrel deep
Ramon Hernandez broke open a 3-1 game in the top of the ninth inning on Friday, taking Atlanta's Craig Kimbrel deep for a two-run homer in Cincinnati's 5-1 win on the road.
Hernandez's seventh homer of the season was his first since May 15. Although he looks as good as he ever has at the age of 35 this year, Hernandez is going to have a lot of work to do over the season's final four months if he wants to equal his career-best home run total of 23 from 2006 when he was with the Orioles.

Tue May 3 201122:39Ramon Hernandez gets two hits, scores twice
Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.
It's his second straight multi-hit game, and Hernandez is now quietly hitting .310 on the year with a pair of home runs. He continues to split starts right down the middle with Ryan Hanigan but is out-producing him at the dish.

Sat Apr 16 201116:23Hernandez hits grand slam in win over Bucs
Ramon Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam in a blowout win over the Pirates on Saturday afternoon.
The big blast was part of a seven-run fifth inning, which also included a two-run homer by Drew Stubbs. It was the sixth grand slam of his career. Hernandez also walked in the bottom of the eighth inning, so he reached base in four of his five plate appearances on the afternoon. The veteran backstop is off to a nice start with the bat, but sharing playing time with Ryan Hanigan caps his fantasy value.

Thu Mar 31 201117:35Hernandez hits walkoff homer for Reds
Ramon Hernandez hit a walkoff three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as the Reds beat the Brewers 7-6 on Thursday.
Given a 6-3 lead to protect, John Axford started the ninth by giving up a long single to Brandon Phillips and walking Joey Votto. Scott Rolen then hit a grounder to third that Casey McGehee handled. McGehee, though, went for the tag-and-throw double play and didn't get anyone. Axford bounced back to strike out Jay Bruce for the first out of the inning. Jonny Gomes followed with a shot to deep center that Carlos Gomez made a jumping catch on for a sac fly. That brought up Hernandez, who slugged one out to right field, concluding a 4-for-5 day. It was a terrific first victory for the reigning NL Central champs.

Ramon Hernandez (elbow) was a late scratch from Friday's lineup.

Mon Feb 21 201113:24Hernandez, Hanigan to share time at catcher
Ramon Hernandez and Ryan Hanigan will share starts behind the plate this season.
Just as they did for the majority of last season. "They're both productive," Reds manager Dusty Baker said Monday at spring training. "There both strong. They both caught well. That's about a good a tandem as there is in baseball. They get along well, which helps." It should work out well for Cincy, but both Hernandez and Hanigan can go untouched in mixed league fantasy drafts.

Mon Nov 15 201018:59Reds re-sign catcher Ramon Hernandez
Reds re-signed C Ramon Hernandez to a one-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the contract is worth around $3 million. Hernandez, 34, batted .297/.364/.428 with seven homers and 48 RBI over 313 at-bats this past season, while throwing out 34 percent of would-be basestealers. Ryan Hanigan has probably surpassed him as the team's top catcher, but they form a pretty effective tandem.

Tue Oct 19 201009:07Reds hoping to re-sign Ramon Hernandez
The Reds are hoping to re-sign free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez.
Hernandez had a $3.25 million vesting option for 2011 that would have turned into guaranteed money had he played 120 games this past season. He played only 97 and can now either test the open market or re-up with the Reds for less than the option amount. The 34-year-old catcher batted .297/.364/.428 with seven home runs and 48 RBI over 313 at-bats.

Fri Aug 20 201001:02Reds' Hernandez hits sixth homer
Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-5 and hit a three-run homer off the Diamondbacks' Joe Saunders on Thursday.
Hernandez is hitting .364 with three homers and 16 RBI in 55 at-bats since the All-Star break. Incredibly, he's fanned just once during that span. He struck out 33 times in 181 at-bats during the first half.
Mon Aug 9 201021:57Hernandez has three hits, including homer
Ramon Hernandez was the offensive star for the Reds Monday, going 3-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Cardinals.
Hernandez had a double and a single before an opposite-field solo home run in the ninth. It's the second straight multi-hit game for the catcher, and the fourth straight game that he's driven in at least one run. He's had a solid offensive season while platooning with Ryan Hanigan, hitting .298 with five homers and 34 RBI over 215 at-bats.
