Coghlan is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

He will sit for a second straight day with the Cubs facing another lefty in Clayton Kershaw. Chris Denorfia will take over in right field Friday while Kris Bryant once again occupies the No. 3 spot in the batting order.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Thursday.

Kris Bryant will get the start in right field and Starlin Castro gets the start at second base, leaving Coghlan on the bench to start Thursday's game. While his ability to play multiple positions makes him very valuable to the Cubs, he could see his playing time start to dip as rosters expand in September.

Coghlan was 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the Cubs' win over Atlanta on Friday afternoon.

He now has four home runs (and a pair of triples) over his last six games, and has 15 long ones to go with a modest .254 average on the season. He has crushed right-handed pitching, but has struggled badly against southpaws, so he will probably be on the good side of a platoon with Starlin Castro (Castro pinch hit for him when the Braves brought in a lefty reliever) for the foreseeable future.

Coghlan went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a 7-1 win over the Braves on Thursday.

Coghlan has been on fire over his last five games, recording seven hits and scoring seven runs while driving in nine. He also has three home runs and two triples in that span and he appears to be thriving in that three-hole against righties. Coghlan has been fantastic against right-handers all season to the tune of an .823 OPS, which is quite contradictory to his .118 average against southpaws (4-for-34). The Cubs actually face six righties over their next six games, so Coghlan may be a nice sneaky add in standard mixed leagues.

Coghlan is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Starlin Castro will take over at second base as Coghlan sits against lefty Daniel Norris, as he typically does against southpaws. Coghlan has recorded just four hits while striking out 10 times in his 33 at-bats against left-handed pitching this season, so it seems likely he and Castro will continue to platoon at the position for the time being.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Despite having a huge performance in Friday's series opener with two homers and four RBI, Coghlan will find himself on the bench for the second straight day as the White Sox bring a lefty to the hill in Chris Sale. With Kyle Schwarber settling in as the Cubs' everyday left fielder, Coghlan looks poised to assume the larger end of a platoon arrangement with Starlin Castro at second base.

Coghlan had a big day at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI as the Cubs defeated the White Sox 6-5 Friday afternoon.

He started in leftfield for this one, but with Starlin Castro's recent demotion to a bench player, he figures to see considerable time at second base as well. He's hitting a mediocre .247 and has 13 long ones to go with 29 RBI, but regular playing time with his position versatility could significantly increase his fantasy value going forward.

Coghlan is starting at second base for Friday's game against the Giants.

Coghlan has started at second base once in his career and that was in 2009 during his rookie year, so this is more than a little weird. Joe Maddon is clearly working to keep as many quality bats in the lineup as possible now that Miguel Montero has returned and likely pushed Kyle Schwarber into an outfield-heavy role. Don't count on Coghlan to get a significant amount of starts at second base, and it's also a good bet that he'll see fewer starts overall with Schwarber's bat demanding playing time.

Coghlan popped his 11th homer of the season in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Rockies.

Coghlan has come off the bench the last two games with left-handers throwing for the opposition, but he's still locked into the larger portion of the timeshare in left field with Chris Denorfia. With a .345 on-base percentage and a career-high home-run total, Coghlan has delivered an impressive 113 wRC+ this season, production that's good enough for the Cubs to forgo pursuing an upgrade at the position as the trade deadline approaches.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Monday against the Rockies.

Coghlan will receive a day off with the left-handed Jorge De La Rosa toeing the rubber for the Rockies. Chris Denorfia will start in his stead, batting sixth and playing left field for the Cubs.

Coghlan went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two stolen bases against the Phillies on Friday.

The man who hit .376 last July isn't quite going to reach that lofty status in 2015, but he's certainly been red-hot since the All-Star break, slashing .370/.414/.667 in 27 at-bats. For the season, Coghlan has a respectable .784 OPS with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases.

Coghlan went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot for the Cubs in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Reds.

The hits came on a pair of infield singles, with one coming against Reds starter Mike Leake, whom Coghlan had previously toted 9-for-13 mark with two home runs against. With Dexter Fowler getting a break from the starting lineup in Game 1, Coghlan moved up in the order, while a similar arrangement could be worked out in the near future if Fowler's struggles against right-handed pitching continue (.212 AVG, .665 OPS).

Coghlan is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Chris Denorfia draws the start in left field with lefty Chris Sale due up for the South Siders. As hot as Coghlan was in June (.317/.434/.451), he's been as cold to begin July, going 4-for-27 without an extra-base hit. To his credit, he has walked more than he's struck out this month.

Coghlan is not in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Coghlan is still a consistent presence in the lineup against right-handed pitchers, having started each of the previous six games. The Cubs are scheduled to face lefties in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader, so Coghlan will likely be limited to a bench role for the day.

Coghlan is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets.

Coghlan has five hits over his last three games, but he'll take a seat Tuesday as Matt Szczur gets the nod in left field.

It looks to be a scheduled day off for Coghlan, who will sit against left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Coghlan is hitting just .188 against southpaws this season, compared to .258 versus righties.

Coghlan got on base five times Wednesday against the Indians, going 2-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored.

He batted cleanup, but didn't drive in a run despite the Cubs scoring 17 of them. Coghlan has been racking up the hits lately, having gone 13-for-31 (.419) over the last 10 days. He's struck out only one time in that span.

Coghlan will bat cleanup Wednesday against Cleveland.

Miguel Montero was scratched due to back stiffness, so Coghlan will move up from the No. 6 spot, with manager Joe Maddon preferring to alternate lefty and righty bats. It marks Coghlan's fifth start in the cleanup spot this season -- he went 6-for-14 with four doubles and a homer in his first four starts there.

Coghlan will bat second Saturday against the Reds, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

It marks the third time this season Coghlan has hit in the two-hole. He is 9-for-11 with three doubles and two homers in his career against Reds starter Mike Leake, and 8-for-18 with a two doubles and a homer in his last five games.

Coghlan hit his eighth homer of the year -- a three-run shot -- as part of a 2-for-5 effort with two runs scored Wednesday against the Tigers.

He's been an asset in limited usage against right-handed pitching, as all of Coghlan's home runs (and the vast majority of his at-bats) have come against righties. He's the ultimate platoon player, but Coghlan is just one off his career high in homers, so he's proven to be a serious NL-only asset at minimum.
