Thu Mar 20 201411:52Beachy to undergo Tommy John surgery Fri.
Brandon Beachy is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery Friday in Los Angeles.
Beachy, like teammate Kris Medlen, will miss the entire 2014 season and possibly part of 2015. It's the second Tommy John elbow procedure for both Braves pitchers. Beachy, 27, owns a fantastic 3.23 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 267 2/3 career major league innings. He will be missed.

Mon Mar 17 201418:27Beachy to be reevaluated in L.A. on Tuesday
Brandon Beachy will have his injured right elbow reevaluated on Tuesday in Los Angeles.
The expectation is that Beachy will require Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, which would put him out for the entire 2014 season. The Braves announced Monday that Kris Medlen needs Tommy John surgery -- the second of his career. It's been a heartbreaking spring.

Sat Mar 15 201408:58Braves not looking to add another starter
Braves general manager Frank Wren said Friday that even with the possibility that Brandon Beachy could need a second Tommy John surgery, the team is not considering adding another starting pitcher.
With the news earlier in the week that Kris Medlen would need his second operation, the team quickly went out and signed Ervin Santana. As it stands, they appear to be content with a rotation featuring Santana, Julio Teheran, Alex Wood, Freddy Garcia and David Hale to begin the season, while Mike Minor and Gavin Floyd work their way back from injuries.

Fri Mar 14 201411:20Beachy could need Tommy John surgery
Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that it "sounds like" Brandon Beachy (elbow) could need Tommy John surgery.
Beachy was told after he left a game last Monday with tightness in his elbow and biceps that his ligament was OK, but it appears that might not be the case. "I was confident when I left (Monday's game)," he said. "That was based on what I was told... Now it looks like it might be something else." It's obviously terrible news for Beachy, who could be headed for his second Tommy John operation in the last 17 months. With Beachy and Kris Medlen both likely going under the knife, the Braves' rotation could be in trouble even after the addition of Ervin Santana.

Tue Mar 11 201416:10Beachy (elbow) will miss next spring start
Brandon Beachy (elbow) will miss his next scheduled Grapefruit League start.
And the absence could extend beyond that. Beachy left his Grapefruit League outing Monday against the Phillies after experiencing soreness in his right elbow and biceps, and he's now undergoing a range of tests. The right-hander is obviously in danger of missing a chunk of the 2014 regular season. This has not been a smooth camp for the Braves' starting rotation.

Tue Mar 11 201411:11Braves think Beachy's elbow soreness is norma
The Braves believe Brandon Beachy (elbow) is experiencing typical soreness and inflammation that occurs when a pitcher returns from elbow surgery.
Beachy left Monday's start because of tightness in his elbow and biceps. He admitted that he'd dealt with the issue over the past couple weeks and doesn't seem overly concerned. You can't say the same about Atlanta fans, who are watching a rotation under siege.

Mon Mar 10 201423:14Brandon Beachy says elbow ligament is fine
Brandon Beachy said Monday that he'd been assured by doctors that his "ligament is fine."
Beachy had to leave Monday's start early because of tightness in his elbow and biceps, something he admitted that he's dealt with over the past couple weeks. "I'm not worried at all about it," Beachy said. "I've seen the doctors, and they've done everything. My ligament is fine. I've got some inflammation in there and it got a little too tight in my bicep. It was just unproductive to keep pushing and fighting through it. I'm not scared at all. I didn't come in here feeling 100 percent. This is something I've been dealing with. It had been getting easier the harder I threw and the harder I pushed. Today, it just got a little too tight on me." It doesn't sound like Beachy has a serious injury, and he's yet to be ruled out for the start of the season. However, it wouldn't be surprising if the Braves ultimately decide to give him some extended rest.

Wed Mar 5 201417:23Brandon Beachy goes three hitless
Brandon Beachy went three innings without allowing a hit Wednesday as the Braves and Phillies played to a 2-2 tie in nine innings.
No radar gun readings on TV today, but he didn't seem to be throwing particularly hard and a scout told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien that Beachy was working at 87-90 mph in the first two innings and then 85-86 mph in the third. He was effective anyway and he said he felt good afterwards, but it'd be nice to see a little more arm strength.

Sat Mar 1 201409:34Beachy not discouraged by early results
Brandon Beachy (elbow) struggled in his first spring start on Friday, but is focusing on the big picture rather than getting discouraged by the results.
Beachy allowed two runs on five hits in his 1 2/3 innings of work against the Astros on Friday, while walking one and striking out one. He came away from the appearance optimistic with how he felt though. His goal remains to build strength and remain healthy heading into the regular season, and he appears to be on track toward accomplishing that feat.

Brandon Beachy (elbow) will attempt to play catch on Monday or Tuesday.
While Beachy hasn't officially been shut down for the season yet, it remains an extreme long shot that he returns to help the Braves in 2013. The Braves should provide an update on his status, including any potential timetable for his return, early next week.
