Fri May 2 201419:56Carlos Quentin to begin rehab on Saturday
Carlos Quentin (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Saturday.
He will need three or four games before being ready to return to the Padres lineup. While he is a terrible bet to remain healthy and in the lineup for the Padres, fantasy owners should take advantage of his power while he is on the field.

Mon Apr 14 201422:40Carlos Quentin takes BP on Monday
Carlos Quentin (knee) took batting practice on Monday.
Quentin had hit in the indoor cages for the previous five days, but this was the first time he's hit on the field. "It's a good first step for him," said Padres manager Bud Black. "When this happens, then it's a good sign for Carlos and the club." Quentin still needs to do some running and increase the intensity of his workouts before he'll be cleared for a rehab assignment. It seems unlikely that he'll be ready before the end of April.

The earliest date that he's eligible to return would've been April 9, but it now appears that it will be at least mid-April before he returns to the Padres lineup. He's been no stranger to the disabled list in his career, and remains very difficult to trust in all fantasy formats.

Fri Mar 28 201417:08Carlos Quentin (knee) could land on DL
Padres manager Bud Black said Friday that Carlos Quentin (knee) could begin the season on the disabled list.
Quentin is dealing with some soreness in his left knee, which is actually his "good" knee. The Padres open up the season Sunday night, so a decision on the outfielder's status will have to be made soon. Quentin has averaged just 84 games played in his two years with the Padres.

Wed Mar 26 201418:10Quentin (knee) a late scratch Wednesday
Carlos Quentin (knee) was a late scratch from Wednesday's Cactus League game.
Quentin is dealing with a bit of soreness in his left knee, and the Padres saw no reason to push it this late in spring. It's not the same knee that Quentin had surgery on in September. Quentin will be re-evaluated on Friday, but at this point it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that will threaten his spot as an Opening Day starter.

Quentin has said that he's feeling much better now than when he reported to spring training last year, but the injury-prone veteran outfielder is always going to be a poor bet to stay healthy.

Carlos Quentin said Wednesday that his right knee feels much better now that it did heading into spring training last year.
Quentin had an operation on the knee in September, which was his third in 18 months. The outfielder has played in just 168 games over the last two seasons and is always going to be a health risk, but he believes the latest surgery combined with a more upright batting stance will give him a better shot to stay on the field.

Sun Sep 8 201311:17Carlos Quentin feeling good after surgery
Carlos Quentin said that he feels "a lot better" about surgery this past week on his right knee than he did about the previous two operations on the knee.
Quentin said he already "feels so much better" and thinks the operation, as well as "my new standing taller stance" will make a difference for him going forward. "I didn't realize how much torque I was putting on my right knee with my old stance from the squat," the outfielder added. "I'd swing without moving my right foot, which transferred everything to the knee."

Tue Sep 3 201320:06Carlos Quentin undergoes knee surgery
Carlos Quentin underwent surgery Tuesday to have debris and floating particles removed from his right knee.
The good news is that he didn't need microfracture surgery, which was a possibility. However, it's the third time Quentin has had his right knee operated on, so whether or not he ever will feel totally normal again is up in the air. The Padres expect him to be ready to go for the start of spring training.
