Butler went 2-for-4 Saturday with two runs scored and a two-run shot, his 15th home run of the season.

After a brutal first five months to the season, Butler has caught fire in September, hitting .388 with a 1.106 OPS in 49 at-bats. Understandably, many owners grew frustrated and dropped Butler, but he could be a nice free agent add to try and ride the hot streak for the final stretch run of the season.

Even with Butler's torrid recent hitting, the 29-year-old has let down fantasy owners for a third consecutive year; the once feared slugger now possesses a meager .126 ISO and .308 wOBA on the season. Butler's red hot bat presents short-term opportunity in daily formats, but the former Royal has little mixed league value remaining.

A first baseman with no power is almost impossible to trust in any fantasy league and that's just the type of player Butler is. Butler is out of the lineup once again Sunday against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Butler will take a seat once again without a designated hitter spot available Sunday, sitting for the entire weekend series. With the team's return home Monday, Butler should return to the lineup.

The A's do not have the DH available in this series so it would not be surprising to see Butler sit Sunday as well.

With the loss of the DH spot as the A's travel to a National League park, Butler may be limited to just pinch-hit opportunities over the weekend.

He will get what looks like another rest day after going 1-for-his-last-12 and 10-for-55 (.182 average) to begin August. Stephen Vogt will take over at DH in place of Butler, who dropped from sixth to seventh in the order against a lefty on Friday.

Butler is hitting just .191 since the All-Star break, so manager Bob Melvin has decided to give Danny Valencia a chance to show what he can do the last few days. It remains to be seen if this is just a part-time break for Butler, or if he will struggle to see regular at-bats the rest of the way.

Since the beginning of July, Butler has hit .198/.274/.366 with just three home runs and seven ground balls into double plays.

Butler has been a big disappointment in his first season with the A's with a current batting average nearly 50 points below his career average. Butler has been especially terrible since the start of June, hitting only .217 with an OPS under .700 over 152 at-bats. With two years and over $23 million remaining on his contract, the A's have to hope Butler can turn it around, but it is not looking promising at the moment.

Ike Davis will get the nod at first base, as Butler sits for the second time during the team's five-game NL road trip. Butler has already matched his home-run total from a year ago, but he's making less consistent hard contact, and thus his slugging percentage sits at an identical .379 mark.

The 29-year-old designated hitter has not done a whole lot of hitting this year, as even the four-game hitting streak he's on -- during which Butler's 7-for-13 with a homer, two doubles, a triple and three walks -- has his season OPS a point short of the .700 mark. Butler's had a few moments of glory this year, but overall has been best used in AL-only or very deep mixed formats.

Butler smashed his sixth home run as part of a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and two RBI on Monday against Colorado.

Butler's power has been steadily disappearing for a few seasons now, and his 2015 slugging percentage would be a career low at .366. Butler had just one home run and a .285 slugging percentage before entering Monday, so he needed the breakout game badly. He also doubled, giving him his first game with multiple extra-base hits all season.

Butler is out of the lineup Saturday against Kansas City.

Butler will sit out against his former team on Saturday with the Royals putting righty Chris Young on the mound. Stephen Vogt, who was hit on the arm by a pitch Friday, will be Oakland's designated hitter for Saturday's tilt.
