Fri Mar 13 201512:01Parnell (elbow/hamstring) threw off mound Friday
Parnell (elbow/hamstring) threw off a mound Friday, NJ.com's Mike Vorkunov reports.
Parnell's recent hamstring tweak seems like a non-issue as he tries to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. He'll open the season on the disabled list, but the Mets hope to have him ready by early May. With Jenrry Mejia set to open the season in the closer's role, Parnell will work as a setup man or middle reliever.

Parnell tweaked his landing leg Tuesday and will not throw for a couple days, The Record's Matt Ehalt reports.
The real thing to watch with Parnell is his recovery from elbow surgery, not this leg ailment, which he should be over by the end of the week. Look for him to open the year on the disabled list, and possibly get a shot at closing later in the season if Jenrry Mejia is struggling with the role.

Parnell (elbow) faced batters Thursday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell was originally supposed to face batters this weekend but that timeframe was moved up slightly. The batters only tracked pitches and did not swing but it was the next step in Parnell's recovery and return from the surgery. Parnell is still expected to open the year on the disabled list and possibly come off as early as May 1.

Parnell (elbow) will face batters this weekend for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell will still open 2015 on the disabled list, as Mets manager Terry Collins estimates the right-hander won't be activated until early May. Even that timetable may be a bit optimistic, given that most pitchers need 12-to-18 months to rehab from Tommy John surgery.
Tue Feb 17 201514:39Parnell (elbow) may miss first two-to-three weeks of season
Parnell (elbow) may miss the first two-to-three weeks of the season, ESPN New York reports.
This is really just a rough estimate, as Parnell hasn't been ruled out for the beginning of year, while it's still possible that he misses more than two-to-three weeks. Having undergone Tommy John surgery on Apr. 8, Parnell will be almost exactly a year removed from the procedure on Opening Day. There's no guarantee that Parnell returns to the closer's role, as the Mets now have other viable options in the form of Jennry Mejia and Jeurys Familia.
Wed Jan 7 201511:06Parnell (Tommy John surgery) and Mets avoided arbitration
Parnell (Tommy John surgery) and the Mets avoided arbitration, agreeing on a one-year deal worth the same $3.7 million Parnell made last season, ESPN's Adam Rubin reports.
Parnell may not begin the season on the active roster as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He is slated to throw off a mound sometime this month and ramp up his activities through spring training. Parnell may not be ready until May and will either get his closer role back or set up either Jennry Mejia or Jeurys Familia.
Tue Dec 9 201410:24While Parnell unlikely to begin season active
While Parnell, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is unlikely to begin the season active, manager Terry Collins said Monday that the closer role is his to lose, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell won't thrown from a mound until January and progress to larger duty until midway through spring training, meaning he may not be ready for game action until May. If Jenrry Mejia or Jeurys Familia are pitching well, Parnell, despite Collins' comments, may pitch as a set-up man and only close if the Mets are struggling in the ninth inning.
Thu Nov 13 201412:07Parnell (elbow) not expected to return for start of 2015 season
Parnell (elbow) is not expected to return for the start of the 2015 season, ESPN's Adam Rubin reports. "Right now I think we're projecting sometime after the season starts," GM Sandy Alderson said. "But that's just an educated guess right now."
Parnell underwent Tommy John surgery back in April and is currently throwing on flat ground at 120 feet at the team's facility in Florida. The team hopes to have him throwing off of a mound by Christmas, but they certainly won't rush his progress after such a major operation. At this point, it's difficult to see Parnell opening the year as the Mets' closer, though a more accurate return timetable will be available in the coming months.
Mon Sep 1 201413:29Parnell
Parnell, who had Tommy John surgery on Apr. 8, hopes to throw off a mound around Christmas, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell has been playing catch for three weeks and will throw throughout the winter, rather than shutting it down for the off-season. If he is able to throw off a mound around Xmas, there is a good possibility he will be ready for the beginning of spring training, though the Mets may bring him long slowly.

Parnell played catch Saturday for the first time since his Tommy John surgery back on Apr. 8, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
Parnell still has a long road to recovery but hopes to be ready for the start of the 2015 season.
Thu Apr 3 201420:05'50/50' chance Bobby Parnell has surgery
Bobby Parnell (elbow) indicated Thursday that doctors have told him it's "50/50" whether he will need to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Parnell has a torn medial collateral ligament, but because the tear is in the thick part of the ligament doctors are giving him a better chance to heal via rest and rehab. He's been given a platelet-rich plasma injection and will be re-evaluated after two weeks. Parnell said he may make a decision on surgery after those two weeks are up rather than wait six weeks as had been previously reported.

Wed Apr 2 201415:54Parnell won't commit to TJS for six weeks
Bobby Parnell is not expected to make a decision about Tommy John elbow surgery for another six weeks.
Parnell was given a platelet-rich plasma injection on Tuesday and will hope that it helps the healing process for his torn medial collateral ligament. If the plasma doesn't work, he'll then go under the knife and begin a rehab process that will likely last through the early part of the 2015 season. Jose Valverde is expected to get the first crack at save opportunities for the Mets.

Wed Apr 2 201414:47Bobby Parnell (elbow) placed on disabled list
Mets placed RHP Bobby Parnell on the 15-day disabled list with a torn medial collateral ligament.
The Mets announced the bad news on Parnell Tuesday and now have officially placed him on the DL. The reliever has been given a platelet-rich plasma injection and will rest for two weeks before resuming a throwing program. Tommy John surgery is a distinct possibility.

Tue Apr 1 201412:05Mets' Bobby Parnell has partial tear in elbow
Bobby Parnell has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Parnell showed diminished velocity and movement on his pitches during Monday's game and now we know why. He complained of tightness in his forearm after the game and the partial tear was found following an MRI. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection and will rest for two weeks before resuming at throwing program, but surgery is possible if he doesn't show improvement. Jose Valverde figures to get the save chances for New York in his absence and is suddenly a must-own in all fantasy leagues.

Mon Mar 31 201417:06Bobby Parnell blows save, Mets lose opener
Bobby Parnell blew the first save of the 2014 MLB season in Monday's loss to the Nationals.
Parnell had velocity issues all spring and they didn't suddenly disappear in Monday's regular-season opener. He hit 93 mph at one point, but his fastball mostly sat in the 89-91 mph range and the Nationals were able to take advantage. Attempting to protect a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, Parnell allowed a single to Ian Desmond, a walk to Danny Espinosa, and then Denard Span doubled in the tying run. Jose Valverde looks like a worthwhile add in standard fantasy leagues.

Wed Mar 26 201415:13Parnell could be limited early in season
Bobby Parnell might not pitch more than two days in a row in the early part of the season.
Parnell is coming back from neck surgery and his velocity isn't all the way there yet, so there's a chance Jose Valverde could get the occasional save chance early in the year. The Mets are surely hoping it won't take long for Parnell to get back to normal.

Tue Mar 25 201416:40Bobby Parnell allows first spring run
Bobby Parnell gave up his first run of the spring Tuesday when he surrendered a solo homer to Ryan Zimmerman.
Parnell's velocity still isn't all of the way back following neck surgery, but he's been effective anyway with his 1.50 ERA. The Mets are committed to going forth with him in the closer's role.

Wed Mar 12 201416:47Bobby Parnell pitches hitless inning
Bobby Parnell pitched a hitless ninth versus the Cardinals on Monday.
Parnell's velocity isn't all of the way back after neck surgery, but it doesn't sound like the Mets have any intention of using someone else to close early on. It's Parnell's job unless he starts struggling in regular-season games.

Fri Mar 7 201408:37Parnell (quad, neck) to appear in game Mon.
Bobby Parnell (quad) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Monday.
Parnell threw a scoreless inning in a "B" game on Thursday, so he's ready to roll. The reliever is coming off of neck surgery, but it's a tight quad that's slowed his routine in camp. However, it appears that both issues are now behind him, and he should be fine to close on Opening Day if he doesn't have any setbacks.

Thu Mar 6 201414:44Parnell (quad, neck) goes inning in 'B' game
Bobby Parnell (quad, neck) threw a scoreless inning in a "B" game on Thursday in Mets camp.
"Everything felt good," Parnell said afterward. "Coming into it my routine was good and my arm was strong. I felt like I came out there throwing strikes, so I'm happy with it." The right-hander should be ready to close for the Mets on the first day of the regular season. He had an outstanding 2.16 ERA in 50 innings last year.
