Mon May 11 201523:39Parnell (elbow/forearm)
Parnell (elbow/forearm), making his first rehab appearance since April 21, allowed three runs on two hits, a walk and two wild pitches in one inning of work Monday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell's fastball sat in the 90-92 mph range, topping out around 95-96. His command and control was off, likely from the extended absence. Parnell will need several more outings before he would be ready to be activated and rejoin the Mets.
Fri May 8 201516:17Parnell (elbow) expected to pitch in game situation soon
Parnell (elbow) is expected to pitch in a game situation soon, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
Parnell resumed throwing last Thursday, after he was shut down for about one week due to soreness in his forearm. It's unclear whether he'll head out on another official rehab assignment, as it's possible the Mets could just use extended spring training to get him ready. Parnell may be ready to rejoin the team in mid-to-late May.
Mon Apr 27 201517:19Parnell (elbow) will resume throwing Thursday
Parnell (elbow) will resume throwing Thursday, and hope not to miss much time beyond the original timetable before the setback, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Parnell was shut down for a week due to forearm soreness, but appears to finally be getting back on track. Given Jeurys Familia' ability to excel in the closer role thus far, it seems less likely that Parnell will receive his closer role back as it initially appeared. He still remains without a definite timetable, but mid-to-late May or early June appears to be the expected range at this point.
Fri Apr 24 201516:20Parnell (elbow) shut down for week with forearm soreness
Parnell (elbow) has been shut down for a week with forearm soreness, The Record's Matt Ehalt reports.
Forearm soreness for a pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery is not ideal, obviously, and given Jeurys Familia's excellence in the closer role to start the season, owners stashing Parnell in leagues with shallow benches may want to rethink that move. We already know he won't immediately reclaim the closer role when he returns, and this setback suggests that may not be until late-May or early-June. His velocity had not been there and his curveball lacked its typical sharpness during rehab outings. He is without a timetable to return.

Manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Parnell (elbow), who is due to come off the disabled list as soon as this week, won't immediately reclaim closing duties, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
Since Parnell will be coming off April 2014 Tommy John surgery upon rejoining the Mets' bullpen, there's little incentive to thrust him into a high-leverage role right away until he demonstrates that his velocity and control are up to par. Moreover, with Jeurys Familia (2.70 ERA, 5-for-5 in save opportunities) excelling thus far in the closing role, he's earned the right to continue those duties in the short-term. It's certainly possible that if Familia shows no signs of diminished effectiveness, Parnell will be forced to occupy little more than a setup role, regardless of how well he fares in his return from a year-long absence.

While Mets manager Terry Collins suggested Friday that Vic Black (shoulder) could return within a week, he said Parnell (elbow) is further off, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Parnell's velocity was down in his rehab appearance with High-A St. Lucie on Thursday, and it seems the skipper wants to see him add a few ticks before entrusting him with major league innings. Jeurys Familia will have a fairly significant window to put him stamp on the closer role for the Mets.
Fri Apr 17 201510:37Parnell (elbow) made second appearance with High-A St
Parnell (elbow) made his second appearance with High-A St. Lucie on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits in an inning of work, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell's fastball sat at 89-93, topping out on the latter number on his final pitch. He mainly threw in the 91-92 mph range, down 3-4 mph from his fastball velocity pre-Tommy John surgery. Parnell is not yet ready to be activated and likely will need at 3-4 more appearances in the minors. His role upon returning to the majors is not set with Jeurys Familia effectively closing for the Mets with Jenrry Mejia suspended.

Parnell (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie on Tuesday, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
The rehab assignment will likely be a pretty lengthy one, as Parnell is returning from Tommy John surgery. He's expected to join the Mets in late April or early May, and with Jenrry Mejia (suspension) out of the picture, Parnell could challenge Jeurys Familia for the closer's role. Familia has done well in the ninth inning thus far, and he posted a 2.21 ERA over 76 appearances last season.
Mon Apr 13 201518:01Bobby Parnell: (Elbow) Could Rejoin Team in Late April or Early May
Parnell (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment early this week and is expected to rejoin the Mets in late-April or early-May.
Parnell could be in the mix to close with Jenrry Mejia (suspension) out of the equation. But if Jeurys Familia, who has notched saves his last two outings, settles into the closer role, Parnell would serve as his set-up man.
Fri Apr 10 201510:29Parnell (elbow) will begin rehab assignment within next two days
Parnell (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment within the next two days, the New York Daily News reports.
Parnell is expected to join the Mets in mid-to-late April, and while Jenrry Mejia (elbow) was recently placed on the disabled list, Jeurys Familia will have time to settle into the closer's role. If Mejia remains sidelined and Familia struggles, it's possible Parnell could get a look in the ninth inning. First, he'll likely need to pitch in multiple minor-league games, given that he's working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
Sat Apr 4 201513:04As expected
As expected, Parnell (elbow) is being placed on the disabled list retroactively by the Mets, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
Parnell may return by the end of April, but it's little surprise that he's starting the season on the DL as the Mets have been limiting his late-spring appearances to minor league games.

Parnell pitched against Cardinals' minor-leaguers Wednesday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell's fastball started out at 88-89 mph but rose to 93-94 by the end of his outing. He allowed two doubles and a home run and failed to make it out of the inning. Parnell will open the year on the disabled list and will be activated anywhere from mid-to-late April.

Parnell (elbow) tossed a scoreless inning in a game against the Cardinals' Class-A players Sunday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell hit a batter and walked another while striking out one in a 16-pitch outing. He is expected to be activated from the disabled list within a couple weeks of Opening Day. Initially, he will likely be used as a set-up man but could regain the closer role from Jenrry Mejia.

Parnell (elbow) is expected to be activated from the DL within a couple weeks of Opening Day, ESPN New York reports.
The Mets are playing it safe and labeling May 1 as a possible activation date, but it sounds like Parnell is progressing faster than expected and should make it back around mid-to-late April. Parnell, who underwent Tommy John surgery less than a year ago and also battled a hamstring strain in camp, is scheduled to make another appearance on the minor league side Sunday. He figures to reclaim a high-leverage job upon activation, though a return to the closer role is not a given.
Wed Mar 25 201515:19Parnell (elbow) threw 17 pitches in minor league game Wednesday
Parnell (elbow) threw 17 pitches in a minor league game Wednesday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Parnell threw nearly exclusively fastballs, and still remains a ways off from returning, but threw both four-seam and two-seam fastballs. His velocity was okay, touching 90-91 MPH on the day, but he's still in the process of rebuilding strength.

Parnell's (elbow) threw 20 pitches in a minor-league game Saturday and will next pitch in a game Wednesday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell said Sunday that he felt "good soreness with no ill-effects from the Tommy John surgery." He will likely progress solely the remainder of training camp and should be back on the Mets by late-April.

Parnell's (elbow) first game action of the spring has been pushed back a day and he now will pitch Saturday and not Friday, ESPN New York reports.
No reason has been provided for the change, but the one day delay is likely not a major deal. It won't change Parnell's probable return period of late-April. However, any further delays could result in that timeframe getting moved back.
Thu Mar 19 201519:34Parnell (elbow) will see first game action of spring Friday
Parnell (elbow) will see his first game action of the spring Friday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell, who is returning from Tommy John surgery last April and been slowed by a left-hamstring issue, will pitch in a minor-league game. Presuming he has no setbacks, Parnell is likely to remain on the disabled list and miss the first 3-4 weeks of the season.

Parnell (elbow), who was to pitch in a game for the first time this spring Tuesday in minor league camp, will instead throw one more bullpen session before returning to game action, ESPN New York reports.
No word has been given about any sort of setback and it may just be that the Mets are being cautious with Parnell, who dealt with a left hamstring strain early in camp. Parnell is likely to be sidelined all of April and return to the Mets in early-May.
Sat Mar 14 201518:31Parnell (elbow) will pitch in game Tuesday in minor league camp
Parnell (elbow) will pitch in a game Tuesday in minor league camp, The Record's Matt Ehalt reports.
He threw off a mound Friday and seems to be progressing as expected. Parnell is currently slated to open the season on the DL, but could return to a high-leverage role in the Mets' bullpen by early May. However, at that point, Jenrry Mejia may already have a firm hold on the closer gig.
