Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports that the Cubs "have expressed some interest" in Jesse Crain.
Levine notes that the Cubs, along with many other clubs, are checking on Crain's medicals. The veteran reliever missed the final three months of last season due to shoulder issues but put up a microscopic 0.74 ERA before going on the DL. If Crain checks out physically, he could prove to be a bargain for someone.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that free agent reliever Jesse Crain has received multiple offers.
Crain suffered a shoulder injury in June of 2013 and failed to make it back, but he's as steady as it gets when healthy and is expected to be 100 percent heading into the 2014 campaign. The 32-year-old right-hander owns a 3.05 career ERA through 10 major league seasons.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Jesse Crain remains an option for the Rockies.
Depending on his health, Crain could be one of the most attractive relief pitchers on the free agent market. Renck speculates that Crain could opt to sign later in the offseason, after he's able to have a throwing session to prove he's ready and able to contribute.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are expected to target Jesse Crain this season.
That's assuming that Crain is healthy, which is no given after he missed the last three months of the season due to shoulder issues. The veteran reliever was brilliant when able to take the mound in 2013, posting a 0.74 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 38 appearances.

Crain threw 20 pitches and allowed a home run in an instructional league game on Thursday. He likely wouldn't be available out of the Rays' bullpen until at least Saturday, but it's possible they'l go ahead and activate him Friday. "I feel comfortable," Crain said. "I threw strikes with all my pitches, which is the biggest thing to tell if I'm close to being ready or not. Ultimately, it's going to come down to what [the Rays] want to do, also. You want them to feel comfortable with me going into a game."

Crain, out since late June with a shoulder strain, said he felt good after throwing to hitters Monday. Because he's on the 60-day disabled list, the Rays will have to make a 40-man roster move in order to activate him. He has yet to pitch for Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay acquired Crain from the White Sox at the July 31 trade deadline, but the 32-year-old right-hander was on the disabled list at the time and might not get off it before the end of the regular season. Crain is scheduled to become a free agent this winter, so this may become a total bust of a move for the Rays.
