Peavy entered the game with a 9.00 ERA, but he was unbeaten at home this season. Not anymore. He struggled through five innings, allowing five hits, five walks and two wild pitches. However, he gave up only three runs and actually lowered his ERA to 8.47.

The veteran surely is looking for something to turn around his miserable season, during which he has recorded the worst ERA (9.00) among regular starters in the National League. Peavy came in 7-0 lifetime with a 2.38 ERA in 12 prior starts against the Reds, gave up three homers in an inning for the first time in his 15-year career. He'll tell you that," said manager Bruce Bochy, when asked about the source of Peavy's struggles. "His ball was up a lot. RHP Jake Peavy endured one of the worst starts of his career Friday when he allowed six runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three over two-plus innings as the Giants were routed by the Mets 13-1. Peavy opened with two scoreless frames but was pulled after allowing the first six batters he faced to reach during the Mets' franchise-record 12-run third inning. It was the fourth time in 361 big league starts he has pitched two innings or fewer. Peavy is 1-2 with an 8.61 ERA. He has allowed 39 hits and seven walks while striking out 17 batters in 23 innings.

RHP Jake Peavy recorded just three RBIs in 59 at-bats the last two seasons. But he added two with just one hit on Saturday night, a two-run single in the fourth inning of the Giants' 7-2 victory over the Marlins. Prior to Wednesday, the last pitcher to allow 10 extra-base hits in a game was Boston's Curt Schilling on Aug. 10, 2006, at Kansas City. RHP Jake Peavy allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings Thursday but ended up with no-decision against the Dodgers. Peavy is 14-3 with a 2.50 ERA in his career against the Dodgers but has just one win in his past six starts against them.

RHP Jake Peavy was rocked in his first spring training start Thursday for the Giants against a Milwaukee Brewers split squad. Peavy gave up six runs and nine hits and didn't make it out of the second inning. The Giants lost 8-7. No need to sound the alarm yet because it's early March, but Peavy is expected to be in the Opening Day rotation. It's Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Peavy and Matt Cain as the projected five. But with Cain coming off a cyst and not yet throwing and if Peavy can't right the ship, one wonders if the door is a little more open for Chris Heston to crack that group.

Peavy won his eighth game of the season Saturday, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk over five innings while striking out two.

The lone run scored on a Ben Paulsen solo shot, but otherwise Peavy was solid in his final start of 2015. When he was healthy he pitched reasonably well, so expect him to be back in the Giants rotation next season.

Peavy took a no decision despite a brilliant start Monday against the Dodgers, as he allowed one run on just three hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out four.

Peavy has saved his best for last, as he now has four consecutive quality starts with a 18:3 K:BB in that span. His ERA has dropped from 4.41 to 3.66 as a result, and he now has a sharp 76:24 K:BB in 105.2 innings this year. It's a good sign for the Giants, who have Peavy signed for one more year.
