Tue Jul 30 201301:34Rogers tagged for eight runs in loss
Esmil Rogers was rocked for eight runs -- six earned -- and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings by the A's on Monday.
He struck out three and walked three in the loss. Rogers (3-5, 4.16 ERA) doesn't strike out a ton of batters and his stuff is hittable, but his control has never been better. The right-hander doesn't have a lot of room for error, and his ultimate destiny may be the bullpen, but AL-only owners could do worse.

Wed Jul 24 201323:09Esmil Rogers pitches well in no-decision
Esmil Rogers held the Dodgers to two runs over seven innings but was dealt a no-decision Wednesday.
Rogers allowed 10 hits but walked just one and struck out four. He was in line to move to 4-4 but watched the Jays blow it in the ninth on a misplay from Colby Rasmus. Rogers has been up-and-down this season but holds a solid 3.74 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the season. He'll get the A's on the road next.

Fri Jul 19 201322:27Rogers tagged for four homers in loss
Esmil Rogers gave up four runs off solo four homers over 5 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision loss to the Rays.
He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. Right about now, Rogers probably never wants to see Tampa Bay's lineup card again. In his last start against the Rays, on June 24, he surrendered three homers. Rogers has only coughed up three home runs outside those two outings. Rogers (3-5, 3.84) is worth starting in AL-only leagues.

Wed Jul 10 201322:33Rogers is stingy in no-decision vs. Indians
Esmil Rogers allowed just one run in six innings but settled for a no-decision against the Indians on Wednesday.
Rogers bounced back from a terrible start his last time out to turn in a strong effort on Wednesday, allowing just the one run on four hits and three walks. His seven strikeouts were the most in any start for the right-hander this season. He's been a very pleasant surprise for the Jays thus far, as he owns a 3.64 ERA through 71 2/3 innings.

Thu Jul 4 201322:16Esmil Rogers blasted for seven runs
Esmil Rogers was tagged for seven runs and 11 hits in five innings by the Tigers on Thursday.
Despite a pretty tough schedule, Rogers had allowed a total of nine runs -- eight earned -- in five starts since joining Toronto's rotation last month. Things will get easier for him and the rest of the Jays pitchers after the break, so Rogers still looks like a pretty good play in AL-only leagues.

Sat Jun 29 201319:36Rogers goes six scoreless, takes ND vs. Sox
Esmil Rogers threw six scoreless innings but settled for a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.
Rogers left with the lead but the bullpen couldn't hold it, denying him his fourth win of the year. The right-hander allowed six hits and a walk while striking out six, lowering his ERA to 3.12 in the process. Rogers' next start will come Thursday against a tough Tigers lineup.

Mon Jun 24 201322:00Esmil Rogers gives up three homers in loss
Esmil Rogers gave up four runs and three homers in six innings Monday in a loss to the Rays.
The defeat snapped the Jays' 10-game winning streak. Rogers entered with 2-0 record and a 1.83 ERA in 19 2/3 innings this month, but he's obviously not quite that good. He can continue to be used in AL-only leagues most weeks, but he does have a tough assignment in Boston coming up next.

Tue Jun 18 201321:42Rogers cruises past Rockies for third win
Esmil Rogers allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 6 2/3 innings to beat the Rockies on Tuesday.
Rogers has now turned in two straight impressive starts as a member of the Blue Jays rotation, keeping the Rangers to one run through seven innings in his last start before limiting the Rockies to three runs on just four hits Tuesday. It's hard to imagine the success will last, but with Brandon Morrow suffering a setback recently Rogers will likely continue to start in the near term. His next start will come Monday against the Rays in Tampa.

Thu Jun 13 201323:07Esmil Rogers earns win over Rangers
Esmil Rogers pitched seven innings of one-run ball and picked up a win Thursday against the Rangers.
Rogers played Yu Darvish to a stalemate, and the Blue Jays scored two runs in the top of the eighth off the Texas bullpen to put Rogers in line for the win. Steve Delabar and Casey Janssen pitched scoreless innings from there. Rogers won despite striking out just one batter. The lone run came on Nelson Cruz's homer. Rogers almost certainly guaranteed himself another start with the performance, and since that seems likely to come at home against the Troy Tulowitzki-less Rockies, he's not a bad spot option in AL-only leagues.

Fri Jun 7 201321:45Esmil Rogers fans six Rangers in spot start
Esmil Rogers pitched well in a spot start against the Rangers on Friday, allowing one run on three hits over his four innings of work.
Rogers racked up six strikeouts on the night while walking just one. Unfortunately, all of the pitches required to compile those punch-outs led to his pitch count getting up to 73 through four innings. With Chien-Ming Wang slated to join the rotation on Tuesday, it's unlikely that Rogers will get another start, despite the strong performance.

Sat Jun 1 201321:02Esmil Rogers to make another start for Jays
The Blue Jays will give Esmil Rogers another start Friday against the Rangers.
Rogers made his first start Wednesday and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Braves. He's thrown 10 2/3 scoreless innings over his last five appearances, lowering his ERA from 6.38 to 4.03. Still, we wouldn't recommend playing him against Texas.

Sun May 26 201323:58Esmil Rogers to make spot start Wednesday
Esmil Rogers will start Wednesday against the Braves.
The Blue Jays need a fifth starter with Josh Johnson on the disabled list, so Rogers will be promoted from the bullpen to make a spot start. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 4.56 ERA in 22 appearances this season and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Tue Mar 5 201316:48Esmil Rogers gives up four runs to Orioles
Esmil Rogers gave up four runs and three homers in his inning versus the Orioles on Tuesday.
The wins was blowing out to left today, but those three homers matched the total the game's other 13 pitchers allowed in 19 half-innings. The Blue Jays have penciled Rogers into their bullpen because he's out of options. It's possible he could lose the spot if he struggles all month.

Esmil Rogers has decided not to play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Like fellow teammate Melky Cabrera, Rogers felt like he needed to be in camp with his new team. Rogers, who was acquired this offseason in the Mike Aviles trade with the Indians, will likely work in a middle relief role for the Blue Jays in 2013.

Sun Sep 18 201118:45Rogers drilled by Giants
Esmil Rogers was drilled by the Giants Sunday, allowing nine runs on seven hits and two walks over just 3 2/3 innings.
Rogers unraveled in the fourth inning, giving up three of his four homers allowed on the day and watching another one leave the park the first batter after he exited. The right-hander was good his last time out, but that was his only decent start over his last seven outings. He'll bring an ugly 6.64 ERA and 1.83 WHIP into next weekend's start against the Astros.
