Ruiz, 36, is the oldest starting catcher in the majors. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said he expects the team's backup catcher to start 50-70 games this season. Ruiz underwent minor arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder at the end of last season, but is fully healthy and has been participating in all camp activities.
