According to The New York Post's Joel Sherman, first baseman Brandon Belt is reportedly accepting the one-year qualifying offer. The veteran will stay with the San Francisco Giants after hitting a career-high 29 home runs in just 381 plate appearances last season. Sun Nov 7 202120:23Giants Extend Qualifying Offer To Brandon Belt
The San Francisco Giants extended first baseman Brandon Belt a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer on Sunday. If Belt declines the offer and signs with another team on the open market, the Giants will receive draft-pick compensation. The 33-year-old has become one of the better hitters in the league in the last two seasons. Belt played in just 97 games in 2021 due to injury, but he had a career-high 29 home runs and a .975 OPS while hitting in the heart of the batting order when he was on the field. A left thumb fracture kept him from playing in the postseason. Darin Ruf, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Wilmer Flores are options to take over for Belt next season if he declines the offer and signs elsewhere. Belt has been in the organization since he was drafted in the fifth round in 2009.

Tue Oct 5 202119:46Brandon Belt Could Return In NLCS If Giants Advance
San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (thumb) fractured his left thumb about a week ago and is currently on the injured list. Giants manager Gabe Kapler talked to reporters on Tuesday and stated that there's no certainty on Belt's timeline, but that the team has discussed the NLCS as a "dream scenario" for Belt's return. The Giants will at least be without Belt in the NLDS and we'll likely see a mix of Darin Ruf, Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr. covering first for the series. Belt dealt with several injuries this year, but he was a force when he was in the lineup, hitting a career-high 29 home runs over just 97 games.

LaMonte Wade Jr. covered first base on Tuesday and should see some additional starts there, but Darin Ruf (oblique), who is expected to be activated soon, will see time at first as well.

Belt is considered day-to-day, but the injury comes at a terrible time for the Giants first baseman with the playoffs starting next week. He slashed .349/.451/.721 with nine home runs, 18 RBI and 23 runs through September before getting injured. Tommy La Stella will handle first base duties while Belt is sidelined. The 32-year-old is starting to heat up and is hitting .429 (6-for-14) with a home run and three RBI over his last four games. His OPS is .877 off of lefties, compared to .956 against right-handers this year, and so he'll get the day off with southpaw Max Fried on the mound. Wilmer Flores will take his spot at first base and bat seventh. Flores is hitting well against left-handers, slashing .293/.333/.474 with six home runs in 133 at-bats, and fantasy managers in most leagues can stream him for first base help.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — San Francisco's injury woes have now hit arguably its best player during the first half of the season. The Giants placed All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford on the 10-day injured list Monday due to an oblique strain. The move came as they opened a pivotal four-game series against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Gabe Kapler said Crawford's MRI revealed a mild strain, and he was hopeful it would be a short stint on the IL. “We understand we have a big challenge ahead of us. Just knowing he is not going to be available is tough for him,” Kapler said. “If there is a silver lining, it does give him a break and allows us to build him up to full strength.” Crawford is ninth in the NL in batting average (.286) and RBIs (58). He was also on a tear with five games of three hits or more in his last 10, along with going 20 for 39 over the last 11 games.
