INF Andrew Romine got on the same field during a game as his brother on Friday for the first time in their major league careers. Andrew Romine is a reserve with Detroit while brother Austin is a backup catcher with the New York Yankees. Austin started Friday and Andrew entered the game as a pinch-runner for 3B Nick Castellanos in the eighth and remained in the game to play third in the ninth. Andrew has played in 279 games over seven years with the Los Angeles Angels and Detroit while Austin has been in 79 over five seasons with the Yankees. There are few opportunities for them to be in a game at the same time because they are in different divisions of the American League. "We've been on teams that have played each other before. He played while I sat and I played while he sat," Andrew Romine said, "but that's the first time we've been on the field together in the same game in the majors."

INF Andrew Romine signed a one-year contract with the Tigers to avoid arbitration. Romine agreed on a one-year contract worth a $900,000 base salary, plus $25,000 in incentives based on games played on Thursday afternoon. The versatile 30-year-old was eligible for the first time and batted .255 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 2015.

Romine is having a solid year at the plate, hitting for a .276/.327/.367 slash line across 72 games. He's 6-for-11 on stolen base attempts this season, which is well off his 12-for-14 pace set last season. He replaces Jose Iglesias in the lineup.

Romine has been inserted into Tuesday's lineup in place of Jose Iglesias.

Iglesias was a late scratch due to flu-like symptoms, so Romine, who was initially getting the night off, will slot in as the starting shortstop and bat eighth against Seattle's Taijuan Walker.

Romine is out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Romine has worked his way into the starting lineup for the last five games, but will receive a day off for the Thursday afternoon contest. Miguel Cabrera will return to first base following a day off, while Nick Castellanos resumes his regular role at the hot corner.

Romine went 2-for-4 with one home run, one RBI and two runs scored in 7-3 victory over Cleveland on Tuesday night.

He's making the best of increased at-bats in the last week. He has two doubles and two home runs in his last three games. The sudden offensive outburst will not continue -- Romine has never hit more than two home runs in a single season (2014) and his career slash line is just .241/.293/.282. But his confidence is soaring, so those in daily formats may be able to tap into this output in the short term.

Romine made his second straight start at third base in Sunday's 12-4 win over the Yankees. He responded by going 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season.

There's a strong chance Romine will be in the lineup Monday again. Nick Castellanos has taken a massive step backwards this season, hitting just .217 with a miserable .267 on-base percentage in 66 games.

Romine is in the lineup Saturday against the Yankees.

Romine is getting his first start at third base since May 31. He has posted decent numbers this year (.283 AVG and .340 OBP) but his chances are limited (46 at-bats). He'll bat eighth against Yankees' righty Nathan Eovaldi.

Romine is hitting .342/.405/.342 in limited action this season as the Tigers' super-utility man. He is 13-for-38 on the season with three RBI and four stolen bases.

He typically appears as a late-inning defensive replacement and rarely gets a start. When he does, it's an all-singles, all-the-time approach, so that affords potential owners with little opportunity for a return on investment if they consider him for spot duty.

Romine went 4-for-4 -- all singles -- with a stolen base and an RBI Wednesday against Minnesota, but was caught stealing twice and didn't score a run.

The headline is "Romine's RBI Single Breaks Tie In Comeback Win," but it'd certainly be nice to see the guy come around to score on some of those hits instead of getting thrown out on the bases. He's only seen nine at-bats this year, but Romine's improbably racked up six hits (.667) and three walks.

Romine will act as a late-inning defensive replacement on the left side of the infield this season, but can also back up at first and outfield.

He's one of those super-utility guys who can theoretically hit from both sides of the plate, but just doesn't bring much offense to the game from either side. He delivered a line of .227 with six doubles, 12 RBI and 12 steals in 251 at bats. He struck out 24 percent of the time.

Romine will probably play some first base during spring training, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

With Victor Martinez set for knee surgery next week and Miguel Cabrera (ankle) coming off a significant procedure, the Tigers are beginning to look at potential fill-in candidates at first base. Romine, a shortstop by trade, has not appeared at first base in the majors, and he's doesn't have the power of a prototypical corner-infield bat, but there simply aren't many other options. Manager Brad Ausmus said Steven Moya probably will not play much at first base this spring, as the team thinks that could slow his development.

Romine will see time in the outfield during spring training and the Tigers intend to have him compete for a super utility role, MLive.com reports.

He'll be in the same boat as Hernan Perez, with Jose Iglesias expected to return from his shin injury to man shortstop on a regular basis in 2015. Romine and Perez are competing for the role previously occupied by Don Kelly.

Romine is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, according to James Schmehl of MLive.com.

Romine, who has been held hitless since Sept. 15, will give way to Eugenio Suarez on Tuesday night.
