It was strange to see Gortat coming off the bench, but why not experiment against some weak competition? It doesn't appear that he's lost his starting role and this is likely a one time thing. With no major additions or subtractions this offseason, Gortat should be in line to match his production from last season, in which he averaged 12.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Gortat tallied 15 points (6-8 FG, 3-3 FT), two assists, and five rebounds in 25 minutes in Friday's 115-104 loss to the Knicks.

The Polish Hammer is back to man the middle in Washington for the third consecutive season, and looks to build a solid 2014-15 campaign in which he played all 82 games. Gortat provided superior defense intertwined with the occasional offensive outburst last season, and the Wizards figure to require more of the same from him in the upcoming campaign. The veteran center may have a new frontcourt mate in Kris Humphries if Humphries is able to wrest the starting job away from Nene Hilario, but Gortat should be able to adapt accordingly if that is indeed the case. Gortat will provide modest offensive production on most nights for fantasy owners, but certainly has the potential to augment his value with his above-average rebounding ability and overall defense. He shapes up as a solid mid-to-late round pick, and would be slotted in the top half of centers.

Gortat will play for the Polish national team this summer, the Washington Post reports.

Gortat finished the 2014-15 season having played in all 82 games. He averaged 12.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 30 minutes per game. That was the least number of minutes he'd averaged per game in over three seasons. Coach Randy Wittman often opted to play Gortat limited minutes in the fourth quarter, so if the team decides to lean on him more in crunch time next season, it's possible Gortat's minutes could take a hike north again.

Gortat posted 10 points, nine rebounds, and one assist in 32 minutes of action in Game 2 against the Hawks.

Gortat was limited in foul trouble and ultimately fouled out in 32 minutes of action. He's been very effective in the postseason so far, but Tuesday's performance was a weak one for the center. Expect him to bounce back in Game 3.
