RHP Sam Tuivailala was recalled from Triple-A Memphis by the Cardinals. Tuivailala was 2-1, 5.06 ERA as the Redbirds' closer, notching 13 saves in 16 chances.

Tuivailala has officially been recalled from Triple-A Memphis.

Tuivailala has already spent four separate stints with the Cardinals this season, appearing in 11 total games and posting a 1.64 ERA across 11 cumulative innings. He'll simply add right-handed bullpen depth with the Triple-A season now concluded.

Tuivailala will join the Cardinals on Tuesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Tuivailala has spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A Memphis, but with the minor league season now over, he'll rejoin the Cardinals for the fifth time in 2015. The 22-year-old has appeared in 11 games for the Cards this season, posting a 1.64 ERA across 11 total innings.

Tuivailala was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Tuivailala made one appearance in his brief stint with the Cardinals, working around a hit and a walk by striking out the side to pitch a scoreless inning. He will return to Triple-A Memphis for now, but could rejoin the team at some point in September following the roster expansion.

Tuivailala was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Tuivailala will take the roster spot of Trevor Rosenthal, who was placed on paternity leave and will miss the weekend series. However, it's possible the 22-year-old will remain with the club beyond the weekend due to roster expansion set to take effect in September.

Tuivailala was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

With Jaime Garcia (groin) coming off the DL, the Cardinals needed to free up a roster spot, and Tuivailala will the casualty. The right-hander made seven relief appearances after coming up before the All-Star break, allowing just three hits and no earned runs over seven total innings.

Tuivailala was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

The 22-year-old righty sits at 97 mph, but that has only translated to a 20.3 percent K-rate at Triple-A this season. He will be used in mid-leverage situations.

Tuivailala was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Tuivailala appeared in two games following his latest recall, but he will head back to Memphis to open a roster spot for Jaime Garcia. Tuivailala has already been up and down twice this year, so it seems likely he could return to the big club again later this season.

Tuivailala took the loss Monday, allowing a run without recording an out.

Tuivailala walked both batters he faced on the 14th inning before Trevor Rosenthal allowed the inherited runner to score on a John Mayberry, Jr. infield single. Tuivailala has now allowed two runs in two innings this season.

Tuivailala was recalled to bolster the St. Louis bullpen, taking the roster spot of Tyler Lyons, who was demoted following another short outing. The right-hander has showed major strikeout potential at the Triple-A level this season, but will need to demonstrate improved command if he plans on staying in the majors this time around.

The hard-throwing ex-infielder impressed while striking out 12 batters and allowing no earned runs over his nine innings at Memphis, but he'll likely have to serve in a low-leverage capacity with the Cardinals, at least initially.

Using a curveball to complement his heater, Tuivailala struck batters out at a 14.6 K/9 clip in 48 appearances between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A last year, but he managed just one punchout in four innings with the big club this spring. He had a combined 3.15 ERA and 1.25 WHIP last year despite a 4.0 BB/9 rate.

With a fastball that sits between 98-101 mph, he'll just need to refine his command in order to become a dominant late-inning reliever at the big league level. The Cards are expected to add him to the 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft in December.
