Parker had a monster game Saturday, going 3-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI.

He's now got five home runs in the last three games, and Parker is hitting an absurd .500 with a 1.556 SLG in just 18 at-bats since being called back up in September.

Parker went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 5-4 loss to the Athletics on Friday.

Parker has been fantastic in his nine games up with the Giants, as he has three homers, five RBI and five runs scored to go along with a ridiculous .462 average in just 13 at-bats. With the Giants out of playoff contention, Parker very well may see plenty of starts over the last ten days of the season.

Parker was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

With Gregor Blanco suffering a concussion, Parker will rejoin the big league team in a corresponding roster move. He figures to serve as an extra outfield option for the parent club.

Smith has now served as the setup man rather than take the ball in the ninth inning in the Mariners' last two save situations.

He recorded his second straight four-out hold while serving as the bridge to Tom Wilhelmsen in the ninth inning Tuesday. Smith would seem to be a better pitcher than Wilhelmsen by almost any statistic, but nonetheless, it seems that a change has taken place in the pecking order for saves in Seattle's bullpen.

Smith finished the seventh inning and worked a scoreless eighth Sunday while Tom Wilhelmsen recorded the save in the Mariners' 8-6 win over the White Sox.

A recent stretch of struggles has likely prompted manager Lloyd McClendon to use a committee approach again in his bullpen, at least temporarily, where Wilhelmsen is now being utilized in the role formerly held by Fernando Rodney. Rodney was designated for assignment Saturday, and is almost certainly done in Seattle as a result since he's in the final year of a two-year pact with the club.

Smith blew his second save in his last three opportunities Saturday, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk.

In his last 12 appearances covering 10.2 innings, Smith has allowed 10 runs (8.44 ERA), 10 walks (three intentional) and 14 hits. There was some thought that he was tiring late in the season, but he hadn't pitched since Tuesday. Even though he's blown three saves in August, he's in no danger of losing the closing job. The Mariners have no one else to turn to after they DFA'd Fernando Rodney on Saturday. That said, it wouldn't be surprising if manager Lloyd McClendon played matchups in the ninth inning from time to time, rather than strictly using Smith.

Smith pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his 13th save of the season Tuesday against the Rangers.

He is now 13-for-16 in save chances, and while there have been a few bumps of late, he seems to have a relatively firm hold on the closer job in Seattle.

Smith allowed a hit and struck out a batter in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 11th save in a 4-3 win over the Rangers on Friday.

That is now two scoreless outings in a row after allowing six runs in his previous five outings.The closing duties have been a major problem all season for the Mariners, but if Smith can find some consistency, he can secure that role with the struggles the rest of Seattle's bullpen has shown.
