Wed Aug 11 202121:40Marcus Stroman Starting Game 1 On Thursday
New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman, who was originally supposed to start on Wednesday, will now be on the bump for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against Washington. With the contest postponed due to inclement weather (rain), the 30-year-old will still get his chance at revenge against a Washington team that beat him up back in April by racking up eight hits and five runs throughout only four innings of work. Nonetheless, Stroman has been a semi-reliable fantasy producer this year, currently sitting on a 2.83 ERA and a 7-11 record, with 106 strikeouts, so managers would be justified to give him another shot to make things right.

Sat Aug 7 202104:35Marcus Stroman Handed 11th Loss
New York Mets starting pitcher Marcus Stroman lasted only five innings Friday night, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk. He struck out five batters. Ultimately, the two runs he allowed proved to be too many to avoid a loss, and his record dropped to 7-11 on the year. Fantasy managers who roster Stroman are surely frustrated, as he was once again pulled with a relatively modest pitch count of 91, and deserves better than his record indicates. He has a strong 2.83 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, and shows no signs of fading. Fantasy managers have little choice but to run him out there and hope the wins come around.

Sun Aug 1 202122:58Marcus Stroman Takes 10th Loss Sunday
New York Mets starting pitcher Marcus Stroman took his 10th loss of the season Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk to the Cincinnati Reds in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters. Stroman's line would have looked quite a bit better had reliever Miguel Castro not allowed two inherited runners to come around to score in the sixth inning. For the season, Stroman has well outperformed his record with a 2.80 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He's worth an add for his solid ratios and his 11 quality starts in 22 games.

Fri Jul 30 202119:15Twins trade 2-time All-Star pitcher José Berríos to Toronto
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Despite all the speculation that surrounded José Berríos this month, with the Minnesota Twins nowhere near contention and ready to reload for the future, the right-hander wasn’t ready to accept he could be traded. The news that he was heading to Toronto on Friday brought him and his wife to tears. Then came the really hard part, having to break the news to their three children that he was joining the Blue Jays in a deadline-day deal that sent two highly rated minor leaguers to the Twins. “I know that it will be hard because this year, they are bigger. They are growing up. They know more about life and also some people,” Berríos said, predicting the greatest difficulty for 7-year-old daughter Valentina. Soon-to-be-5-year-old Sebastian and 3-year-old Diego had grown fond of Minneapolis and their friends there, too. Berríos, drafted 32nd overall by the Twins in 2012, debuted with Minnesota in 2015. Though Puerto Rico was their home, he and his wife, Jannieliz, became strongly... [More]

Mon Jul 26 202103:53Surprising Mariners keep winning the close ones
The Seattle Mariners have worked their way into the postseason race — one run at a time. The Mariners improved to 23-8 in one-run games, and that remarkable record has them just 1 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second wild card in the American League. Seattle has been outscored by 52 runs on the season, but the Mariners are eight games over .500. This last series against the Athletics was a microcosm of Seattle's season. The Mariners lost 4-1 in the opener before taking three straight one-run games. Although there are still reasons to doubt that Seattle will be in the playoffs in the end, there is understandable excitement surrounding this team. The Mariners haven't made the postseason since 2001 — the longest drought in baseball. The Miami Marlins ended what was the second-longest absence during last year's shortened season. They qualified for the first time since 2003 Seattle is seven games behind first-place Houston, and the Mariners have a chance to cut into that gap during a three-game... [More]
Mon Jul 26 202102:33LEADING OFF: Padres getting All-Star 2B Frazier from Pirates
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ FRAZIER TO FRIARS An already impressive Padres infield is about to get even better with the addition of All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier. Pittsburgh has agreed to trade Frazier San Diego for three minor leaguers, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. The trade is pending physicals. Pittsburgh is sending approximately $1.4 million to the Padres in the deal. Frazier was the National League starter in the All-Star Game this month. He leads the majors with 125 hits and is batting .324. He’ll join a potent Padres infield that includes Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer. Pittsburgh is receiving infielder Tucupita Marcano, outfielder Jack Suwinski and right-hander Michell Miliano in the swap. The Padres are 58-44 and third in the NL West, and hold a cushion for the second wild-card spot. The Pirates have... [More]
Sun Jul 25 202119:03LEADING OFF: Ohtani hits MLB-high 35th HR, now faces Rockies
A look at what's happening around the majors on Monday: ___ A SHO NO-NO? Shohei Ohtani has done it all this season, from leading the majors in home runs to throwing 100 mph heat while starting the All-Star Game. So after there were no-hit near misses at Fenway Park, Target Field and Minute Maid Park over the weekend, will the Angels two-way sensation be the next pitcher to give it a go? Ohtani (4-1, 3.21 ERA) will be starting with an extra day of rest when Los Angeles hosts Colorado. Fellow All-Star Germán Márquez (8-7, 3.50) is set to pitch for the Rockies. Ohtani hit his 35th home run Sunday in a win at Minnesota. He’s coming off a sharp start in which he pitched six shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out eight at Oakland. There have been seven no-hitters in the majors this year, one short of the MLB record set in 1884, the first season overhand pitching was permitted. MINUS MOOKIE The Dodgers will be without All-Star right fielder Mookie Betts for at least a few more days. Betts... [More]
