Petricka gave up a hit and a walk but escaped Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers with his 10th save of the season.
Petricka tossed 18 pitches in the appearance, but he hadn't pitched on any of the previous three days, so he may very well be available should another save opportunity present itself in the nightcap. While Petricka gave up five runs while recording just four outs in his previous two appearances, it appears he's still the preferred option over Matt Lindstrom.

Petricka gave up a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to take the loss Tuesday against the Indians.
Petricka entered the inning with the game knotted at 6-6, but quickly served up a double and home run before he was pulled without recording an out. With seven runs allowed over his last four innings, Petricka's standing as the closer could be in serious jeopardy, especially after his biggest threat for the gig, Zach Putnam, covered 1.2 scoreless frames in Tuesday's contest.

Petricka took the loss against the Yankees on Sunday after he allowed a 10th inning three-run home run to Brian McCann.
The home run was just the second one surrendered by Petricka all season, with the other one coming in middle relief duty in mid-April. Petricka has only earned three saves in August, but that has had more to do with a lack of opportunities than a lack of ability.

Petricka pitched a perfect ninth in a non-save situation Wednesday in a loss to the Orioles.
The White Sox closer was just getting some work, since he hasn't had a save opportunity for a few days and Chicago has a day off Thursday.

Manager Robin Ventura said Petricka will remain the White Sox's closer even with Matt Lindstrom (ankle) returning from the disabled list Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Of course, these comments were made before Petricka blew the save against the Giants on Tuesday, but we doubt Ventura would flip his opinion so quickly. The blown save was Petricka's third of the season, but he has only allowed runs in three appearances since late-June.

Petricka blew his third save of the year Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits in just 0.2 innings pitched before being pulled for Zach Putnam in the ninth inning.
Petricka's outing was a big step back, as he had recorded five saves while allowing just one run in his last ten appearances (spanning 9.1 innings) prior to Tuesday. Let's see if the always indecisive Robin Ventura sticks with Petricka at closer. After all, Petricka does own a fine 2.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 58.2 innings pitched.

Petricka logged his eighth save by tossing a scoreless inning against the White Sox on Saturday night.
Petricka (eights saves, 2.02 ERA) had done a solid job since taking over as the closer on the south side of Chicago. He allowed a one-out single to Logan Morrison, but induced Chris Miller to ground into a double play to end it. He figures to soon face competition for his job from Zach Putnam and Matt Lindstrom, so he needs to stay sharp.
Thu Jul 24 201423:15Petricka strikes out two, picks up 5th save
Jacob Petricka earned his fifth save of the season as the White Sox defeated the Twins on Thursday.
Petricka had no issues wrapping up the win, notching a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. The White Sox aren't sure yet who to use in the closer's role, or if they should pick anyone at all. Petricka owns a 2.06 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 41/26 K/BB ratio.

Tue Jul 22 201400:00Jacob Petricka records fourth save
Jacob Petricka notched his fourth save with a scoreless ninth in a two-run game against the Royals on Monday.
Ronald Belisario has settled back into his eighth-inning role, but it's still unclear who will get the ninth on a nightly basis. Petricka was also given a chance to close Saturday, only to be pulled in favor of Zach Putnam after allowing two to reach with two outs. Putnam converted that one to earn his second save in two days, but he went unused tonight after also getting Sunday off. At least it seems pretty clear in light of Javy Guerra's recent struggles that the closer committee is down to Petricka and Putnam. If one of the two has a couple of bad appearances in a row, it will probably solve matters.

Mon Jul 7 201413:12Petricka earns save in win over Mariners
Jake Petricka earned his third save of the season Sunday as the White Sox blanked the Mariners.
Petricka protected Chicago's 1-0 lead by recording the final six outs of the game with perfect eighth and ninth frames. This after Zach Putnam blew a save opportunity on Saturday. Petricka boasts a sharp 1.85 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings this season and is worth picking up in most mixed fantasy leagues while the White Sox try to settle on a reliable option at closer.

Tue May 20 201400:19Jacob Petricka picks up first save
After Matt Lindstrom got hurt, Jacob Petricka recorded the final two outs of the game against the Royals on Monday for his first career save.
Daniel Webb might have been the choice, but he pitched three innings the previous two days. Both Petricka and Webb could be candidates for saves if Lindstrom's ankle/foot problem turns out to be significant. Petricka has a 1.85 ERA in 24 1/3 innings since his callup.

Jake Petricka was perfect for two innings out of the pen Wednesday, striking out two against the Cubs.
Petricka has pitched 10 scoreless innings since April 25, and he has a 1.71 ERA overall since being called up on April 4. He's been a middle-relief guy thus far, but he could soon get a look in a setup role.
