Wed Aug 4 202117:59Gary Sanchez Isn't Starting On Wednesday
New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez isn't in the team's lineup on Wednesday for a matchup with right-handed starter Matt Harvey and the Baltimore Orioles. Sanchez has provided both the Yankees and fantasy managers with some solid power production so far in 2021, batting .213 with a .325 on-base percentage and 17 home runs in 323 plate appearances. Kyle Higashioka is starting behind the plate for the Yankees in Sanchez's place and hitting eighth. He could be worth a look as a streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for home runs. Higashioka is hitting .190 with a .270 on-base percentage and six home runs in 111 plate appearances this season.

Sun Aug 1 202110:26Gary Sanchez Collects RBI Double
New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Saturday's 4-2 defeat of the Marlins. Sanchez was stuck in a 3-for-21 stretch, having gone seven games without an RBI, though he changed that in the second inning, extending the Yankee lead with a ground-rule double. The slugging backstop has been far more prone to the strikeout lately, though he's still been hitting the ball just as hard during his slump. It could simply be a matter of Sanchez making a mechanical change, something he did earlier in the year, which resulted in a hot stretch. He is certainly worth holding onto, as he possesses upside few others do at the catcher position.

Thu Jul 29 202111:51Gary Sanchez Takes A Seat Thursday
New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays. Sanchez will give way to Kyle Higashioka with Gerrit Cole on the mound. Sanchez has cooled off considerably after a red-hot June, batting just .143 with three home runs in 56 at-bats. Higashioka will be making his first start since returning from the COVID-19 injured list.

Sun Jul 11 202121:29Altuve's 3-run homer in 9th caps Astros' rally past Yankees
HOUSTON (AP) — Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer to cap a startling six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, getting his jersey yanked off in a frenzied celebration and lifting the Houston Astros over the New York Yankees 8-7 on Sunday. The Astros had been shut out by the Yankees the previous two games, highlighted by ace Gerrit Cole’s three-hitter in a 4-0 win on Saturday night. The win came on Altuve replica jersey giveaway at Minute Maid Park — Houston fans left with a No. 27 shirt, while the All-Star second baseman exited without his. New York led 7-2 after a three-run homer by Gary Sanchez in the eighth inning. After the first two Astros reached base against Domingo Germán in the ninth, Chas McCormick hit a two-run double off Chad Green (3-5). Abraham Toro followed with an RBI double to make it 7-5, still with no outs. Pinch-hitter Jason Castro singled and one out later, Altuve launched his soaring shot to left field. Ralph Garza Jr. (1-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for... [More]
Tue Jun 8 202102:25LEADING OFF: Yankees, Cards slumping, all eyes on Philly net
A look at what's happening around the majors today: BRONX BUMMERS Slumping DJ LeMahieu and the skidding Yankees hope to get back on target when they start a set at Target Field against the Twins. New York has lost four in a row, coming off a weekend sweep by Boston at Yankee Stadium, and is fourth in the AL East, a division that many predicted it would win. LeMahieu (batting .253), Gary Sanchez (.210), Brett Gardner (.190), Rougned Odor (.180) and the Yankees rank near the bottom of the majors in scoring, and have averaged barely 2 1/2 runs per game over the past two weeks. Often dependent on power, they’re below the AL average in home runs and have hurt themselves on the bases all season, often running into outs. Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 3.92 ERA) pitches the opener at Minnesota against former Yankees righty Michael Pineda (3-3, 3.40). ST. LOUIS BLUES Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt and the Cardinals have lost five in row and ending the streak won’t be easy -- they next face Cleveland ace... [More]

Mon Jun 7 202103:24Nationals in a familiar spot -- another early-season hole
For a third straight year, the Washington Nationals have dug themselves an early hole. Two seasons ago, they recovered and won the World Series. In 2020, they couldn't overcome their poor start, finishing under .500 in that 60-game season. They have more time to rebound this year, but there aren't many positive signs at the moment. The Nationals are in last place in the NL East, and although their mediocrity has company — only one team in that division has a winning record — Washington's run differential of minus-31 suggests this team has earned its current predicament. The Nationals are 24-32 — the same record they had after 56 games during their championship season. Last year, they were 23-33 at this stage, and the season was almost over. Only two teams have scored fewer runs than Washington this season. Last year, the Nationals struggled as a team but still got stellar production from Trea Turner and Juan Soto. This year Turner is hitting .311 with 10 homers, but Soto is batting a more... [More]
Fri Mar 5 202117:25Yanks' Germn pitches 2 innings in 1st game since suspension
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Domingo Germán pitched two scoreless innings for the New York Yankees in his spring training debut Friday, a week after publicly apologizing for actions that led to his 2019 suspension under Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. There was no noticeable reaction from the socially distanced crowd of 2,352 at Steinbrenner Field when Germán took the mound to start against the Detroit Tigers. "I felt welcomed,” Germán said through a translator. Germán struck out four and allowed one hit, a double by Wilson Ramos. The 28-year-old righty walked none. “Exciting to be back on the field, be back with my teammates,” Germán said. ”I felt relaxed, confident.” Germán was 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA for the Yankees when MLB put him on administrative leave while investigating an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend, with whom he has at least one child. Germán missed the final nine games of the regular season and all nine of New York’s playoff games. On Jan.... [More]
Mon Feb 22 202123:54Yankees' Germn talking with teammates about suspension
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán has started the process of talking to teammates about his domestic violence suspension that's kept him off the mound since September 2019. Germán was 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA in 2019 when he was put on administrative leave while Major League Baseball investigated an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend, with whom he has at least one child. “It is important to me that I have the opportunity to speak directly with my teammates, both individually and collectively and address them face to face before I speak to the media and our fans,” Germán said in a statement released by the Yankees on Sunday. “This process has begun but more time is needed, especially since half our team has yet to report to spring training. I recognize that speaking publicly will be an important step for me and I will do so in the upcoming days," he said. The Yankees' first full-squad workout is Tuesday. "It’s a very serious issue,” Yankees manager... [More]

Mon Sep 21 202018:13Jays closer Giles to undergo elbow surgery, out for season
Toronto Blue Jays closer Ken Giles will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, likely causing him to miss all of 2021 and impacting the deal he will receive as a free agent this offseason. A right-hander who turned 30 on Sunday, Giles is 0-0 with a 9.82 ERA and one save in four appearances this season. He left a July 26 game at Tampa Bay because of forearm soreness and was placed on the injured list the next day. He returned with one inning against the New York Mets on Sept. 11, pitched one inning at the New York Yankees on Sept. 15, then went back on the injured list the following day. Manager Charlie Montoyo said Giles decided Monday to go ahead with the surgery. “He was a great clubhouse leader. He was awesome. I love the guy,? Montoyo said. “When he was on the mound, when he was healthy, he was one of the best relievers in baseball.” Giles earned $3,555,556 as a prorated share of his $9.6 million salary this season. He was 2-3 with a 1.87 ERA in 53 games last year, saving 23 games... [More]

Pesky surpassed the 200-hit mark for the third time in as many major league seasons. He is the only player to lead a league in hits in his first three seasons in the game. 1964 — Manager Gene Mauch’s first-place Phillies lost 1-0 to the Cincinnati Reds on Chico Ruiz’s steal of home in the sixth inning.
